Artificial Neural Network Discrimination of Multi-PD Sources Detected by UHF Sensor

  • The waveforms of partial discharges (PDs) imply physical and structural properties of PD sources, so analyzing them give us information on the kind of PD sources and the location. Waveforms of PD as a time series function have variable amplitudes but sustain a certain uniform shape, which shows well the characteristics of the waveforms and frequency region. They can also be used as parameters having time and frequency information of PD signals and applied to classification of multiple PDs sources via Artificial Neural Network with back propagation (BP) learning.

  • It is well known that on-site corona and various noises make severe problems on the PD(partial discharge) measurement. In this paper, for the improvement of the on-site PD measuring performance, the applicability of TF(Time-Frequency) map was investigated. For the purpose, PDs that can be generated from the defect in the power cables as well as corona discharges and ground noises were measured. And through the TF analysis for the measured data, we have tried to distinguish the real PDs, corona discharges and noises. As a result, it is confirmed that the data of PDs can be clustered themselves separable from other data such as corona and noises on the TF map.

2개 센서를 이용한 부분방전 위치추정 기법 연구 (A Study on the Partial Discharge Location Method using 2 Sensors)

  • This study deals with the location of partial discharges(PDs) for power cables and GIS using 2 PD sensors and long coaxial signal cables. Throughout the experiments by use of simulated PD pulses and corona discharges in the power cable system, it is found out that the impedance matching between the coaxial signal cable and the measuring equipment should be done for good S/N ratio and the on-site measurement using more than 100m-long coaxial signal cable is possible. In addition, new PD location algorithm with the polarities of PD pulses and the arrival time difference between two pulses was proposed and was proved through the partial discharge experiments for the cable joint defect and artificial void defect.

모노폴 안테나를 이용한 유중 부분방전의 검출 (Detection of Partial Discharges by a Monopole Antenna in Insulation Oil)

  • This paper dealt with the measurement and analysis of electromagnetic waves radiated from a partial discharge (PD) source in insulation oil to apply condition monitoring of oil-immersed transformers. Two types of narrow-band monopole antennas with the resonant frequency of a 500 MHz and a 1 GHz were designed and fabricated. Also, a needle-plane electrode system was manufactured to simulate PDs and the curvature radius of the needle is 10 ${\mu}m$ and the diameter of the plane is 60 mm. Electromagnetic wave was measured by the PD measurement system with the monopole antennas. Detection sensitivity of the fabricated antenna was compared for the same PD magnitude; 620 $mV_{peak}$ for the 500 MHz antenna and 960 $mV_{peak}$ for the 1 GHz antenna to the PD magnitude of 74 pC. Consequently, the 1 GHz monopole antenna is more effective to detect PDs in oil-immersed transformers.

  • Partial discharges (PDs) are electrical sparks that occur inside insulation between two conducting electrodes and can lead to the disastrous failure of insulation systems. To determine the location of a PD, a distributed array of UHF PD sensors is used to detect the electromagnetic (EM) signals emitted from the PD source, and the localization of the PD source can be estimated using the time difference of arrival (TDOA) between EM signals captured by the UHF PD sensor array. There are four popular methods to estimate the TDOA-the first peak method, the cross-correlation method, the energy criterion method, and the average time window threshold method. In this work, we numerically investigate the influence of noise on estimating the TDOA for the four different methods. Numerical results show that the energy criterion method is more robust against noise than other methods.

몰드변압기의 부분방전 검출기술에 관한 연구 (A Study on PD Detection Methods for Cast-resin Dry-type Transformers)

  • Transformer failures are mostly due to partial discharges (PDs) caused by the deteriorated insulation. It is, therefore, important to monitor PD occurrence in insulation system and prevent their deterioration. The presented paper deals with a PD detection method by a capacitive probe, which easily apply to cast - resin dry - type transformers. The PD detection system consists of a capacitive probe and a low noise amplifier having the frequency bandwidth of 500 $Hz{\sim}30$ MHz. In the experimental set-up, sensitivity of the system is 7.16 mV/pC.

GIS내 금속이물 존재시 에폭시 절연코팅의 효과 (Effect of Epoxy Dielectric Cooling on existing metal Porticoes in GIS)

  • 본 논문에서는 모의 GIS를 에폭시로 코팅하고, 금속이물 혼입시의 부분방전, 부상전압, 절연파괴전압 등을 측정하여, 코팅하지 알았을 경우와 비교 분석하였다. 또한, 여러 경우의 절연사고를 모의하기 위해, SF$_{6}$/$N_2$가스 혼합비, 금속이물의 재질, 직경, 코팅두께, 압력 등을 변화시키면서 전기적특성을 관찰하였다. 실험결과, 코팅두께가 증가할수록 부분방전개시전압이 증가하였으며, 부분방전의 크기는 감소하였다. 또한 철합금 파티클의 부상전압이 구리파티클보다 높았으며, 직경이 증가할수록 부상전압도 증가하였으며, 코팅두께가 두꺼워질수록 절연파괴 전압이 증가하였다. 이상의 연구결과 GIS를 에폭시로 코팅함으로써 절연성능을 향상시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다.

탄소나노튜브 가스센서의 SF6 분해생성물 검출 및 확산현상에 관한 연구 (Detection with a SWNT Gas Sensor and Diffusion of SF6 Decomposition Products by Corona Discharges)

  • 가스절연개폐장치 (Gas-insulated switchgear, GIS)의 내부에는 절연에 관한 이상 여부를 감시하고 판단할 수 있는 시스템이 요구된다. 부분방전에 의해 발생되는 $SF_6$ 분해생성물에 관한 단일벽 탄소나노튜브 (Single-walled carbon nanotube, SWNT)가 지닌 우수한 검출기능 때문에 SWNT를 이용한 가스센서 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 하지만 아직까지 부분방전에 의해 발생된 분해생성물의 확산현상에 관한 해석적 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 실험 데이터 및 상용 CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) 프로그램을 이용하여 SWNT 가스센서에 포획되는 분해생성물의 코로나 방전에 의한 발생 과정과 챔버 내부에서의 확산과정을 모델링하여 부분방전 발생 시 챔버 내부의 온도, 압력, 그리고 분해생성물의 농도 등을 수치계산하였다. 분해생성물의 시간당 질량생성율과 발생온도는 각각 $5.04{\times}10^{-10}$ [g/s]와 773 K이라 가정하였다. 농도방정식을 계산함에 있어 미지의 확산계수를 임의의 값으로 가정하여 직접 부여하는 방법을 사용하지 않고, 확산계수를 정의하는데 사용되는 Schmidt수의 값을 지정하여 확산계수가 $SF_6$ 가스의 물성치인 점성계수와 밀도의 함수로 계산되도록 하였다. 수치결과로부터 분해생성물의 농도구배가 확산을 일으키는데 주요 구동포텐셜 (Drive potential)이 됨을 확인하였다. 센서 설치위치가 부분방전 발생영역에서 멀리 떨어질수록 분해생성물 농도가 낮음을 알 수 있었고, 부분방전이 지속될수록 분해생성물의 농도가 증가함을 확인하였다. 다수의 센서를 챔버 내부에 설치하면 각 센서의 응답시간을 확인하여 PD 발생위치를 판단할 수 있을 것이고, 이를 통해 GIS 진단 및 유지보수에 관한 유용한 정보로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.
