The present experiments were designed to investigate the effects of Samsaengyeum. water extracts on the Cardiovascular System in the Experimental Animals. Thus, the changes of blood pressure and heart rate were measured after oral administration. Measurement of Mortality rate was observed for measuring the effect of Samsaengyeum water extract Samsaengyeum water extract against pulmonary thromboembolism induced by collagen the mixture(0.1me/10g, 2mg/kg B.W) plus serotonin(5mg/kg B.W) in mouse. The effect of Samsaengyeiim water extract was examined by observing the change of collagen-induced platelet aggregation, coagulation activity, ex vivo and in vitro fibrinolytic activity of euglobulin fraction in rats. The results were summarized as followings. 1. Samsaengyeum dropped the blood pressure in spontaneous hypertensive rat. 2. The drug increased the auricular blood flow in rabbit. 3. The drug relaxed the artery contraction by pretreated norepinephrine in rat. 4. The drug inhibited the death rate of mouse which was led to thromboembolism by serotonin and collagen. 5. The drug inhibited the platelet aggregation in rat. 6. The drug prolonged the prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time on the test of plasma coagulation factor activity in rat, but was not valuable. 7. The drug reduced the fibrinogen lyses time and increased the lyses area of rat. 8. Samsaengyeum reduced fibrinogen lyses time of rat in vitro assay. According to the above mentioned results, Samsaengyeum increased the blood flow and dropped the blood pressure by the dilation of blood vessel. And the drug inhibited the platelet aggregation.
A certain group of phytochemicals such as isoflavone have been proven to act as a phytoestrogen. After thorough the study of different bibliographic herbs excluding soybeans, dates, pomegranates, and other publicized plants, three different edible herbs by Korean Food Regulation were extracted for the animal study on the effect of estrogen replacement. The herbal extract(FGF271) has been orally administered into 51 weeks old partial ovariectomized rats for 5 weeks with the different dosages of 100 and 1,000 mg/kg, respectively. It was observed that 1) serum estrogen level was increased in both 100 and 1,000 mg/kg group, 2) the distension of uterus was made dose dependently and significantly different in 1,000 mg/kg group (p.0.05) from control in the gross findings, 3) the weight of uterus was increased in 1,000 mg/kg group, and 4) the action on reproductive tissues was clear in the microscopic findings in terms of hyperplasia of endometrial epithelial cell, cystic change of submucosa, dilatation of uterus (significantly increased in 1,000 kg/mg), and follicular cystic changes in ovary. As a result, FGF271 seemed to act as a phytoestrogen by inducing the change in ovary and uterus and by increasing the serum estrogen concentration.

Background: The present study investigated the effect of ginseng berry hot water extract (GBx) on blood flow via the regulation of lipid metabolites and blood coagulation in rats fed a high-fat diet (HFD). Methods: Sixty rats were divided into five groups in descending order of body weight. Except for the control group, the other four groups were fed a HFD containing 45% kcal from fat for 11 wk without GBx. GBx groups were then additionally treated by gastric gavage with GBx dissolved in distilled water at 50 (GBx 50) mg/kg, 100 (GBx 100) mg/kg, or 150 (GBx 150) mg/kg body weight for 6 wk along with the HFD. To investigate the effects of GBx on rats fed a HFD, biochemical metabolite, blood coagulation assay, and histological analysis were performed. Results: In the experiments to measure the serum levels of leptin and apolipoprotein B/A, GBx treatment attenuated the HFD-induced increases in these metabolites (p < 0.05). Adiponectin and apolipoprotein E levels in GBx-treated groups were significantly higher than the HFD group. Prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time were increased in all GBx-treated groups. In the GBx-treated groups, the serum levels of thromboxane $A_2$ and serotonin were decreased and concentrations of serum fibrinogen degradation products were increased (p < 0.05). Moreover, histomorphometric dyslipidemia-related atherosclerotic changes were significantly improved by treatment with GBx. Conclusion: These results suggest the possibility that GBx can ameliorate blood flow by decreasing intima-media thickness via the regulation of blood coagulation factors related to lipid metabolites in rats fed a HFD.

Automated road map generation poses significant research challenges since GPS-based navigation systems prevail in most general vehicles. This paper proposes an automated detecting method for intersection points using GPS vehicle trajectory data without any background digital map information. The proposed method exploits the fact that the trajectories are generally split into several branches at an intersection point. One problem in previous work on this intersection detecting is that those approaches require stopping points and direction changes for every testing vehicle. However our approach does not require such complex auxiliary information for intersection detecting. Our method is based on partial trajectory matching among trajectories since a set of incoming trajectories split other trajectory cluster branches at the intersection point. We tested our method on a real GPS data set with 1266 vehicles in Gangnam District, Seoul. Our experiment showed that the proposed method works well at some bigger intersection points in Gangnam. Our system scored 75% sensitivity and 78% specificity according to the test data. We believe that more GPS trajectory data would make our system more reliable and applicable in a practice.
This study dealt with the use of quinoa flour (QF) or teff flour (TF) as partial beef fat replacers in the formulation of emulsion-type sausages. A control (C) group was manufactured with 20% beef fat, while the other three groups were formulated with 10% beef fat plus 5% QF (Q), 5% TF (T), and 2.5% QF+2.5% TF (QT). Water-holding capacity of the emulsions was higher in Q (81.81%), T (82.20%), and QT (84.10%) samples than in C (64.83%) samples. Total expressible fluid and expressible fat were the lowest in Q and T samples, indicating the highest emulsion stability of those groups. Incorporation of QF and TF into formulations increased moisture and carbohydrate contents while decreased fat and energy values. Besides, the use of QF was effective to increase protein and dietary fiber contents. T sausages had lower luminosity (L⁎) and higher yellowness (b⁎) than C sausages, whilst Q sausages did not result in significant color changes. Higher cook yield values were recorded in Q (97.96%), T (98.21%), and QT (98.15%) samples compared with C (96.44%) samples. Inclusion of QF and TF to formulation led to lower hardness and gumminess, while utilization of TF was also effective to decrease chewiness. Consequently, healthier emulsified sausages were obtained by the inclusion of QF or TF that could decrease the fat content more than 50% without sacrificing overall quality, bringing advantages by quinoa over teff for increasing nutritional value and leading minimal modifications on color and texture.
The cbb3 cytochrome c oxidase has the dual function as a terminal oxidase and oxygen sensor in the photosynthetic bacterium, Rhodobacter sphaeroides. The cbb3 oxidase forms a signal transduction pathway together with the PrrBA two-component system that controls photosynthesis gene expression in response to changes in oxygen tension in the environment. Under aerobic conditions the cbb3 oxidase generates an inhibitory signal, which shifts the equilibrium of PrrB kinase/phosphatase activities towards the phosphatase mode. Photosynthesis genes are thereby turned off under aerobic conditions. The catalytic subunit (CcoN) of the R. sphaeroides cbb3 oxidase contains five histidine residues (H2l4, B233, H303, H320, and H444) that are conserved in all CcoN subunits of the cbb3 oxidase, but not in the catalytic subunits of other members of copper-heme superfamily oxidases. H214A mutation of CcoN affected neither catalytic activity nor sensory (signaling) function of the cbb3 oxidase, whereas H320A mutation led to almost complete loss of both catalytic activity and sensory function of the cbb3 oxidase. H233V and H444A mutations brought about the partial loss of catalytic activity and sensory function of the cbb3 oxidase. Interestingly, the H303A mutant form of the cbb3 oxidase retains the catalytic function as a cytochrome c oxidase as compared to the wild-type oxidase, while it is defective in signaling function as an oxygen sensor. H303 appears to be implicated in either signal sensing or generation of the inhibitory signal to the PrrBA two-component system.
The toxic effect of adhesive resins on the dog's pulp tissue was studied with 70 teeth from 5 dogs. The experimental materials were Clearfil, a mixture of Clearfil with calcium hydroxide powder, Panavia-EX, and a mixture of Panavia-EX with calcium hydroxide powder. As a control group, calcium hydroxide powder was used. Each material was placed on the pulpotomized tissue surface. After 3 days, 1, 2,4, and 6 weeks, the teeth and apical tissue were processed routinly and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Pathological tissue changes due to the toxicity of adhesive resins were observed by light microscope, and the pH of Panavia-EX and the Bonding agent of Clearfil were measured. Following were the results; 1. In the group of calcium hydroxide powder, slight inflammatory change was observed in the pulpotomized surface and adjacent pulp tissue on 3 day. 1 week case showed incomplete dentin bridge. The remaining pulp tissue was normalized according to the days elapsed. 2. In the group of Clearfil, early inflammatory change revealed in the superificial portion of the remaining pulp tissue on 3 day. The inflammation spreaded over the total pulp tissue and partial necrosis was observed in 1 week and 2 week cases. Total necrosis of pulp tissue and moderate inflammatory change at the apical tissue was noticed in 4 week and 6 week cases. 3. In the group of Panavia-EX, moderate inflammatory change appeared in the superficial pulp tissue on 3 day, and severe inflammatory change over all pulp tissue found in 1 week case. Pulp necrosis was obvious in 2 week case. 4 week and 6 week cases were totally necrotized up to the periapical tissue. 4. In the groups of mixtures with calcium hydroxide powder, the pulp tissue destruction was retarded, compared with the groups of Clearfil and Panavia-EX. 5. Panavia-EX was more destructive than Clearfil. 6. The acidity of freshly mixed Bonding agent of Cleafil was pH 4.0, and that of Panavia-EX was pH 2.0.

A novel process is proposed to improve oxidation resistance of Ti-Al intermetallic compounds at elevated temperatures by both Cr addition and pre-sulfidation, where TiAl alloys withlor without Cr addition were sulfidized at 1173K for 86.4ks at a 1.3 Pa sulfur partial pressure in a $H_2-H_2S$ gas mixture. The pre-sulfidation treatment formed a thin Cr-Al alloy layer as well as 7~10 micrometer $TiAl_3$ and $TiAl_2$ layer, due to selective sulfidation of Ti. Oxidation resistance of the pre-sulfidation processed TiAl 4Cr alloy was examined under isothermal and heat cycle conditions between room temperature and 1173K in air. Changes in $TiAl_3$ into $TiAl_2$ and then TiAl phases as well as their effect on oxidation behavior were investigated and compared with the oxidation behavior of the TiAl-4Cr alloy as TiAl and pre-sulfidation processed TiAl aHoys. After oxidation for up to 2.7Ms a protective $Al_2O_3$ scale was formed, and the pre-formed $TiAl_3$ changed into $TiAl_2$ and the $Al_2Cr$ phase changed into a CrAlTi phase between the $Al_2O_3$ scale and $TiAl_2$ layer. The pre-sulfidation processed TiAl-4Cr alloy had very good oxidation resistance for longer times, up to 2.7 Ms, in contrast to those observed for the pre-sulfidation processed TiAl alloy where localized oxidation occurred after 81 Oks and both the TiAl and TiAl-4Cr alloys themselves corroded rapidly from the initial stage of oxidation
