  • The activity of symbiotic -fixation and environmental factors of Robinia pseudo-acacia L., bearing root nodules, were quantitatively analyzed during the growing period. Among changes of total nitrogen and phosphorus contents of each organ, leaves showed prominent decreases from the highest quantity of the early growing period to the lowest of the late period. The rhizosphere showed acidic pH and low level of nitrogen, phosphorus and organic matter contents during the growing period. -fixation activity of nodules initiated from April and showed the maximum value of 190 $\mu$/g DW/hr in late June and than decreased to 50$\mu$M/g DW/hr during the rainy and dry season. Another peak of the activity attained 246$\mu$M/g DW/hr in the late growing stage of September. The maximum value of nitrogen fixation activity was observed at the conditions of pH7, $25\{\circ}C$ of temperature and 20 Kpa of oxygen partial pressure.

  • In this paper, a new PD measurement technique of pulse superposition method was proposed in order to investigate both PD mechanism and phase related PD patterns. From the experimental results, we could find that the polarity and the phase angle of the superposed pulse take great effects on PD characteristics and these method make it possible to get the physical information which statistical approach can not give. We could conclude that the changes of PD characteristics in the void surrounded by polymers may be attributed to the injection of charge carriers thereby formation of space charge in the surface and/or the bulk of the polymer.

  • Due to environmental issues, the development of low energy consumption products has become one of the main topics in the home appliance industry. The energy consumption of a refrigerator depends on the efficiency of its compressor as well as on the refrigerator cycle design, such as the capacity modulation. In this study, a dual capacity, i.e., two-step capacity modulation (TCM), reciprocating compressor is developed. In a TCM compressor, capacity modulation is achieved by changing the dead volume in the cylinder. Instead of a concentric sleeve, an eccentric sleeve, a key, and a spring are used to change the dead volume for the clockwise and counterclockwise rotation of a motor. When the compressor changes its operating mode from full capacity to partial capacity or in opposite direction, the key may collide with the eccentric sleeve. The structural reliability and mode change reliability were confirmed by analysis and experiment.

  • Synthetic coumarin and furocoumarin derivatives were evaluated for anticoagulant activity and the effect on liver and kidney function. It was found that all of the compounds under investigation proved to be neither toxic nor lethal up to 500 mg/100 g body weight as a single dose for 24 hrs. All tested compounds showed a significant increase in prothrombin time (PT) in the acute model but failed to show a significant action in the chronic model. Furthermore, all tested compounds revealed a significant increase in activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) as compared to control value in both acute and chronic model. Also, all tested compounds did not cause any significant changes on liver and kidney functions in rats.

  • In this paper, to provide the robustness of character recognition, we propose a recognition method using the dilated boundary curve feature which has the invariance characteristics for the shift, scale, and rotation changes of character pattern. And its some characteristics and effectieness are evaluated through the experiments for both the english alphabets and the numeral digits. The feature vector is represented by the fourier descriptor for a boundary curve of the dilated character pattern which is generated by the circular mask dilation method, and is used for a nearest neighbort classifier(NNC) or a nearest neighbor mean classifier(NNMC). These the processing time and the recognition rate, and take also the robustness of recognition for both some internal noise and partial corruption of an image pattern.

  • The partial-discharge(PD) is accompanied by physical and chemical phenomena, such as heat, light, noise gas, chemical transformation, electric current, and electromagnetic radiation. The PD can be detected by measuring one of these changes. Although some techniques are employed in this purpose, several obstacles interfere with an on-line measurement. Now, a fiber-optic sensor for detecting ultrasonics is suggested for the on line measurement system with high accuracy. This paper describes the basic principles fiber-optic sensor for ultrasonic measurement.

  • A transformer is one of the most important elements in the power network. Transformer faults could cause costly repairs and be dangerous to personnel. To avoid this, its reliable operation has great significance and, therefore, the diagnosis system of the transformer is necessitated. The dissolved gas-in-oil analysis (DGA) is the worldwide popular method of detecting faults such as a hot spot or partial discharges inside the transformer. DGA, however, is not a reliable technique to identify aging phenomena and mechanical faults including insulation failure, inter-turn short, etc. To overcome the drawbacks of DGA, the transfer function method is used to identify effectively these kinds of the mechanical faults. The transformer has a unique transfer function independent of the shape of the input waveform, which can be evaluated through sweep test. This transfer function changes by winding ...

  • A method for the non-destructive detection of damage using parameterized partial differential equations and Galerkin approximation techniques is presented. This method provides the theoretical and experimental verification of a nondestructive time domain approach to examine structural damage in smart structure. The time histories of the vibration response of structure were used to identify the presence of damage. Damage in a structure causes changes in the physical coefficients of mass density, elastic modulus and damping coefficient. This paper examines the beam-like structures with PVDF sensor and PZT actuator to perform identification of those physical parameters and to detect the...

  • Growing needs of reducing energy consumption and enhancing creative thinking brought expanding of men's business wear market into more trendy and casual sector. As fashion trend of men's business wear has changes to casual jackets, there is need to study for the inner structure of casual jacket. The inner structure of casual jackets are different from conventional tailored jackets so that they can provide more comforts, functionality and characteristic style. The purpose of this study is to find out how the inner structure of casual jackets are made up by comparing jackets of various brands. In order to categorize the construction methods, where, how and what kind of lining, interlining, sleeve heads and shoulder pads are applied were studied. Although there are considerable varieties in making up methods, it could be concluded that casual jackets have lighter and less time and labour consuming inner structure, i.e. partial linings, fusible inter-linings, ready made sleeve heads and shoulder pads.

  • Nonlinear dynamic characteristics of rubbing phenomenon in rotor dynamics are investigated experimentally and numerically. Rubbing phenomenon occurs when rotor contacts with stator during whirling and causes the large amplitude of vibration, high whirl frequencies, and possibly catastrophic failure. Rubbing has various types of forward whirl, backward rolling, backward slipping, and partial rub depending on the system parameters of rotating machinery and running speed. Experiments are performed for forward whirl and backward whirl. And numerical analysis are conducted to explain the changes between backward rolling and backward slipping. Experimental and numerical results show that the types of whirling motion depends on the friction coefficient between rotor and stator and the eccentricity of rotor.
