Extradural meningiomas are relatively rare and those arising from spinal root are even rarer. Recently, a case of extradural meningioma arising from a spinal nerve root was surgically treated in our institution. This patient was a 19-year-old female presented with paraparesis and paresthesia. The mass was compressing the spinal cord at the level of fourth thoracic spine, and it was extended to the nerve root. At operation it was found to be originated from the fourth thoracic spinal nerve root. After removal of the tumor, the neurologic symptom and sign were recovered completely. Histoligic examination of tumor revealed as transitional type of meningioma.
Intramedullary spinal hemagioblastomas usually develope in cervical or thoracic region of spinal cord, but rarely in conus medullaris. We report a case of hemangioblastoma developed in conus medullaris. The 19-year-old male patient presented with slowly progressing low back pain and paresthesia of both legs. MRI and spinal angiography revealed a well-vascularized mass lesion in the conus medullaris with syrinx formation. Total excision of hemangioblastoma was achieved via posterior approach. Postoperatively, patient's walking difficulty was worsened transiently, but it was improved at discharge.
The association of medial elbow ganglion cyst with cubital tunnel syndrome has been rarely reported. A 61-year-old man presented with progressive right hypothenar atrophy and paresthesia for 7 months. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed ulnar nerve entrapment with a cystic ganglion in cubital tunnel. Decompression of ulnar nerve and excision of the ganglion were performed. Motor function of the ulnar nerve showed an improvement four months later after surgery. Because most ganglia are occult, imaging study is warranted especially in case with osteoarthritis. Excision of the ganglion performed concurrently with decompression of the ulnar nerve provide satisfactory results.

Poisonings caused by 'mad honey' are known to occur in response to grayanotoxins, which bind to sodium channels in the cell membrane, increasing membrane sodium permeability and preventing inactivation. Mild symptoms of mad honey intoxication are dizziness, weakness, hypersalivation, nausea, vomiting, and paresthesia. Severe intoxication, however, leads to serious cardiac manifestations such as atrioventricular block, dose-dependent hypotension, bradycardia, and respiratory depression. Atropine and vasoactive drugs improve symptoms of both bradycardia and respiratory rate depression. We report an unusual case of saliva-type hyperamylasemia in a mad honey poisoning patient who developed clinically significant bradycardia. She recovered fully within 3 days following atropine administration and medical treatment.

The various species of aconitum contain diterpene (C-20) and norditerpene (C-19) forms of the natural alkaloid aconitine that cause neurologic, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular symptoms. In chinese medicine, these plants has been used as drugs to treat pain, dyspepsia, cerebrovascular disease, and so on. Because the therapeutic window is narrow, poisoning may occur from unintentional exposure, with a variety of toxic effects such as arrhythmia, hypotension, paresthesia, paralysis, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Aconitine-containing folk remedies are widely used in Korea. We encountered two cases of ventricular arrhythmia in patients who ingested tablets, known as 'Wha-Pung-Dan' made with aconitine extracts and were subsequently admitted to the ED. A 42 year-old man who took 35 tablets presented with ventricualr tarchycardia, and 40 year-old woman who took 40 tablets showed premature ventricular contractions. Both patients were discharged normally without any complications after three days.

The trigeminal nerve, one of the cranial nerves, innervates the maxillofacial area and has three branches: the ophthalmic, maxillary, and mandibular nerves. Paresthesia, due to damages to the inferior alveolar nerve and mental nerve (branches of the mandibular nerve), is quite frequent in dental implants and third molar extractions. As medical disputes are increasing, it is necessary to formulate an objective and reasonable disability evaluation. When evaluating the frequent rate of impairment for inferior alveolar nerve damage, it may be reasonable to follow the criteria for the rate of maxillofacial impairment of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) - the most scientific and reputable criteria based on the American Medical Association (AMA). Therefore, the Committee of Guides for Maxillofacial Impairment Ratings, in the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (KAOMS), is trying to suggest more reasonable and realistic guidelines for evaluating impairments by reviewing the current evaluation criteria and those of AMA and AAOMS.
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a sleep disorder characterized by an urge to move the legs or arms and uncomfortable paresthesia in the legs. Treatment of RLS can be various depending on the causes, severity, and frequency of the symptoms. In the case of secondary RLS, it is important to identify and manage the cause of RLS. Dopamine agonists have been used as firstline treatments for primary RLS treatment. However, due to augmentation, which is a common side effect of dopamine agonists, recent treatment guidelines are changing to prefer to anticonvulsants such as pregabalin and gabapentin. Iron, opioid, or benzodiazepine may be used when anticonvulsants or dopamine agonists are not adequately treated. Because RLS is a chronic disease, it is essential to establish a long-term treatment plan considering both efficacy and side effects.

One of the most common oral surgical procedures is the extraction of the lower third molar (LTM). Postoperative complications such as paresthesia due to inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) injury are commonly observed in cases of horizontal and vertical impaction. The present report discusses a case of a vertically impacted LTM associated with a dentigerous cyst. An intimate contact between the LTM roots and the mandibular canal was observed on a panoramic radiograph and confirmed with cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) cross-sectional cuts. An orthodontic miniscrew was then used to extrude the LTM prior to its surgical removal in order to avoid the risk of inferior alveolar nerve injury. CBCT imaging follow-up confirmed the success of the LTM orthodontic extrusion.
Objective: The aim of this study was to report the improvement of stroke symptoms in patients using Mokdanpisaback-san. Methods: This study was carried out on patients hospitalized at the Department of Korean Internal Medicine of Jecheon Korean Medicine Hospital of Semyung University from October 2014 to September 2019. A retrospective study was performed on 43 patients who were diagnosed with stroke and Soyangin and treated with Mokdanpisaback-san. Results & Conclusion: 1. Mokdanpisaback-san is effective in improving various symptoms of stroke, including dysarthria, dysphagia, movement disorder, paresthesia, quadriplegia, and dizziness. 2. Mokdanpisaback-san significantly improves the motor disorders of stroke, including lower extremity muscle strength, standing, and walking disorders. 3. Mokdanpisaback-san does not affect the liver or kidney function.
We report a case of 29-year-old man diagnosed as a primary eosinophilic granuloma (EG) lesion of the seventh cervical vertebra. He had paresthesia on both arms, and grasping weakness for 10 days. Cervical magnetic resonance image (MRI) showed an enhancing mass with ventral epidural bulging and cord compression on the seventh cervical vertebra. Additionally, we performed spine series MRI, bone scan and positive emission tomography for confirmation of other bone lesions. These studies showed no other pathological lesions. He underwent anterior cervical corpectomy of the seventh cervical vertebra and plate fixation with iliac bone graft. After surgical management, neurological symptoms were much improved. Histopathologic evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of EG. There was no evidence of tumor recurrence at 12 months postoperative cervical MRI follow-up. We reported symptomatic primary EG of cervical spine successfully treated with surgical resection.
