This study examined whether the ego-identities of institutionalized children and adolescents differ by grade, gender, reason for and length of residence, age at entering the institution, parents' visiting, relationship with parents before entering the institution, and caretakers' emotional support. We assumed that the ego-identities of institutionalized children had an effect on social interactions. The subjects were 121 5th and 6th graders, 135 middle, and 85 high school students who were institutionalized in Seoul. As predicted, the ego-identities of institutionalized children and adolescents differed by grade, and by such social interactions as parents' visiting, relationship with parents before entering the institution, and caretakers' emotional support. Results support the importance of social interactions for understanding the ego-identities of institutionalized children and adolescents.

This study investigated the relationship between parental abuse and maladjustment per ceived by middle school student. The subjects were 448 middle school students in Kwangju. The main results of this study were as follows ; 1. There were found significant differences according to background variables in parental abuse and maladjustment. Physical abuse was found significantly different according to gender of the child and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, but emotional abuse was found significantly different according to job of the father and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents. And, neglect was found significantly different according to educational level of the father and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents. Social withdrawal was found significantly cliff erent according to gender of the child, family income and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, but hyperactivity was found significantly different according to gender of the child and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents. Agression and retreat were found significantly different according to gender of the child and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents. Obsessive-compulsion was found significantly different according to unreasonable_ rearing behavior of the parents. 2.There were significantly positive correlation between parental abuse and maladjustment. 3. The findings of multiple regression analysis demonstrated that neglect, physical abuse, family income, gender of child were found to be important variables in predicting social with drawal. Neglect, unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, phsical abuse, gender of child were found to be important variables in predicting hyperactivity. Neglect, emotional abuse, and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be important varialbes in predicting aggression. This study was conducted to investigate the influence of university students' psychological separation from their parents on conflict solving strategies for dating relationships and on relationship satisfaction. The participants were 231 university students. The results were as follows. Firstly, male students were more psychologically separated from their mothers than female students. When living with parents, students were more psychologically separated from their fathers than their mothers. Secondly, the more independent students were from psychological conflict with their mothers, the less negative strategies they used in conflicts during dating. The closer female students were with their mothers, the more positive conflict solving strategies they used. Thirdly, the students who were freer from conflict with their mothers experienced higher satisfaction with emotional communication when dating. In conclusion, psychological separation from parents was confirmed to be a variable influencing both the effective use of the conflict solving strategies and dating relationship satisfaction.
Purpose: There is evidence that parent-child cohesion is a potentially influential factor in children's self-esteem and acculturation. However, no research to date has examined cohesion with parents as a potential pathway between Korean proficiency and self-esteem or acculturation among children from multicultural families. This study was done to address these limitations by examining whether and to what extent cohesion with parents mediated the effect of Korean proficiency on self-esteem and acculturation among children from multicultural families. Methods: Data were collected from a sample of 138 mothers and their children living in Seoul, Daegu, Kyungi province, and Kyungpook province. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the relationships between the variables of interest. Mediation effects of cohesion with parents were tested by following the procedure recommended by Baron and Kenny (1986). Results: Cohesion with parents partially mediated the relationship between Korean proficiency and self-esteem. For children's acculturation, the effect of Korean proficiency was partially mediated through father-child cohesion. Mother-child cohesion completely mediated the relationship between Korean proficiency and acculturation. Conclusion: These findings suggest that to help children from multicultural families experiencing difficulties with self-esteem or acculturation, it might be useful to develop programs that are aimed at strengthen cohesion with parents.
Objective: The study examined the mediated-moderation effect of social-support levels from maternal-acceptance experiences by the parents of origin to child emotion regulation strategies through an emotion-coaching reaction. Methods: The participants in this study were children (Grades 4-6) and their mothers. They completed questionnaires on Maternal Parenting Experiences Scale, Children's Emotion Regulation Scale, Emotion-Coaching Scale, and Social Supportive Level Scale. Data were analyzed via SEM. Results: The main findings were as follows. First, a mediating model showed that the relationship between maternal-acceptance experiences by the parents of origin and child emotion-regulation strategies was mediated by emotion-coaching reactions. Second, there was a moderation effect of social-supportive levels on the relationship between maternal-acceptance experiences from parents of origin and emotion-coaching reaction. Finally, social-supportive levels mediated the moderation effect of social-support level from maternal-acceptance experiences to child emotion-regulation strategies through emotion-coaching reaction. Conclusion: These results indicate that importance of maternal social-supportive level from owns spouse or friends. I discussed the implications of the intervention of parent counseling and parent education in this research.

The purpose of the present study is to study how the understanding of growing of child to be related with recognizing the role of parents and activity of bringing up, and at the same time verifying a part of father through reviewing difference view with mother's. Object of investigation were 396 members of parents who have babies in infancy (177 members of fathers and 219 members of mothers. ). The result of this research shows that father has stronger confidence than mother in the role of parents relatively, but he does not understand as much as mother does in growing of child, and is not active enough in bringing up, keeps less intimate relationship with his child and does not affect on his child than mother does. And father who has more understanding on growing of child has also more positive activity in bringing up child. We can get one conclusion from this research, now a days it is seriously required for a father to participate more corporately in bringing up his child, we should do support more effort to let father gets better and right understanding in growing of child and building-up more effective and positive relation with his child.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the differences in parenting stress, parenting attitudes, and parents' mental health between different adult attachment styles. Methods: Forty-four parents who completed a parental education program were enrolled in our study. They completed the Korean version of the Experience of Close Relationship Revised, Korean-Parenting Stress Index-Short Form, Maternal Behavior Research Instrument, and Symptom Checklist-90-Revised. Results: The avoidant attachment score positively correlated with parenting stress. The anxious attachment score showed a positive relationship with parenting stress, hostile parenting attitude, and psychopathology, but a negative association with an affectionate parenting attitude. The secure attachment group exhibited a more autonomous, affectionate parenting style and a less hostile parenting attitude and less parenting stress than the insecure attachment group. Dismissing-avoidant attachment parents reported significantly higher parenting stress scores than secure attachment parents. Preoccupied and fearful-avoidant attachment parents displayed a more hostile parenting style than secure attachment parents. Dismissing-avoidant and preoccupied parents reported a less affectionate parenting attitude than secure attachment parents. Conclusion: There were differences in parenting stress, parenting attitudes, and parents' mental health depending on the adult attachment style. More specific education and interventions based on parental attachment type are necessary for parents.
This study investigated the prediction of fathering and child's attachment to father based on socio-emotional competence and father-child relationship. Fifty-five toddlers and their parents were assessed by the Generative Fathering Questionnaire (Yee et al., 1999) and the Attachment Security Q Set (Waters, 1987) when the children were 2 years old. After 12 months, the child's socio-emotional competence and father-child relationship were assessed by questionnaire. The child's socio-emotional competence was predicted by father's sense of responsibility for child rearing but not by father's involvement in child rearing. Attachment security partly predicted child's socio-emotional competence and father-child relationship. Among the sub-categories of father-child relationship, warmth and closeness of the relationship was related to child's socio-emotional competence.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe quality of life in school age children and the relationship between quality of life and parenting attitude as perceived by children and parent-child communication pattern. Methods: Data were collected between May 26 and June 3, 2009 using self-report questionnaires from 148 pairs of children and their parents. The children were enrolled in 4th to 6th grades. The questionnaires included the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI), Parent-Child Communication (PCC) Scale, and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). The data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 17.0 program. Results: The Quality of Life (QOL) score for the children was significantly higher among children reporting higher parental bonding attitude (mother r=.38, father r=.34) and parent-child communication (mother r=.43, father r=.36). Results of multiple regression showed that factors significantly associated with QOL were academic achievement, caregiver available after school, parent-child communication, school satisfaction, relationship with peers, and birth order among siblings. Conclusion: Positive relationships and good communication with parents and satisfaction with school life were important factors associated with quality of life in school age children.
