Objectives:To determine the influence of parental behaviors on the onset and severity of eating disorders, this study compared aspects of perceived parental styles, according to eating disorder subtypes and age at onset in Korean women with eating disorders. Methods:One hundred and sixty-seven patients with eating disorders[Anorexia Nervosa (AN), N=49; Bulimia Nervosa(BN), N=118] were recruited for this study. Perceived parent behaviors were assessed with Parental Behavior Inventory(PBI) self-rating scale. The study subjects also completed the Eating Disorder Inventory -2 (EDI-2) to assess the severity of eating disorder symptoms. Results:In anorexia nervosa, early onset group(<16 years) reported low paternal affection and high paternal rational expression, low maternal interference than group with age at onset over 16 years. The severity of eating disorder symptoms was negatively associated with mother affection and rational expression in two subtypes of eating disorder(AN and BN). On stepwise regression analysis, paternal affection and maternal over-protection were associated with age of onset only in AN group and maternal affection was associated with the severity of symptoms in both groups of eating disorder. Conclusions:Considering the role of family function and perceived parental styles could help improve the management of eating disorders. These results emphasize the importance of fathers' role in the eating disorder on the age of onset, a relatively unexplored area of eating disorder research. Also, we investigated the importance of mothers' affection on the severity of symptoms.
This study assessed the needs and aspirations for after-school programs for 421 employed mothers with a school-age child. Furthermore, 20 cases of after-school programs presently opened in Seoul and Kyungkido were analyzed and evaluated in terms of the factors related to quality of child care programs. A tentative after-school program model was developed on the basis of data from the assesment of parental requests and the evaluation of the present programs. The objectives of after-school programs, program activities, caregiver's role, group constellation, supervision of the programs, and care service time were discussed in the model.

Objective:There is increasing interest in the developmental relationship of parental psychopathology and parenting behavior and conduct disorder in adolescence. The object of this study is to investigate the role of parental rearing behaviors in influencing conduct disorder in adolescence comparing with normal adolescents. Methods:The author assessed 52 conduct disorder who met the DSM-Ⅳ criteria, and 144 normal control subjects using self-report questionnaires, 'The Parental Rearing Behavior Scale'. Results:The results of study were as follows:1) There is significant correlation between the conduct disorder group and the control group in the father’s anxious emotion subscale, not mother’s. 2) There is no significant correlation between the conduct Disorder group and the control group in other subscales such as affection, hostility, rational guideline and consistent limitation subscales. Conclusion:The results suggest that father’s psychopathology including overanxious parenting style will predispose a risk factor for conduct disorder than mother’s psychopathology.

This study examines factors influencing stress and depression among Korean and Japanese university students and the role that parental social support, resiliency of efficacy and stress management behavior play. Four hypotheses are presented. First, parental social support will have a direct influence on resiliency of efficacy. Second, resiliency of efficacy will have a direct influence on stress management behavior and stress and depression symptoms. Third, resiliency of efficacy will have a mediating influence between parental social support and stress and depression symptoms. Fourth, stress management behavior will have a direct influence on stress and depression symptoms. A total 469 participants, consisting of 289 Korean university students (male=156, female=133) and 180 Japanese university students (male=112, female=68) completed a questionnaire that included Rhode Island Stress Inventory-Short Version (Horiuchi, Tsuda, Tanaka, Yajima & Tsuda, in press), Stress Management Behavior (Evers et al., 2006), CES-D (Radloff, 1977), BDI-II (Beck, Steer & Brown, 1996), Resiliency of Efficacy (Bandura, 1995) and Parental Social Support (Kim & Park, 1999). The results supported the first three hypotheses for both samples. Hypothesis 4 was not supported for the Japanese sample and it was partially supported for the Korean sample. The results indicate that parental social support had a direct and positive influence on resiliency of efficacy. Second, resiliency of efficacy had a direct and positive influence on stress management behavior and stress and depression symptoms. Third, resiliency of efficacy had a mediating influence between parental social support and stress and depression symptoms. Fourth, stress management behavior did not have a direct influence on stress symptoms. Overall, parental social support had a direct positive influence on resiliency of self-efficacy, which in turn had a direct negative influence on stress and depression symptoms.
This study presents work-family multiple-role planning by female university students as a new approach to worklife balance. Accordingly, this study examines university years as a key time frame during which students establish their career paths. This study integrates the social cognitive career theory and the planned behavior theory to design and evaluate a model that explains the work-family multiple-role planning process; in addition, it develops an optimal model to predict the intentions of female university students in work-family multiple-role planning. This study has conducted a structural survey with 500 female university students. After inspecting the data, the responses of 435 participants were used in the data analysis (SEM) with SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. The findings include the following. First, suitability of predictive model presents a satisfying fit. The major factors in this study's model (parental support, subjective norms, attitudes toward multiple-role planning, career decision self-efficacy, and outcome expectations) are verified as direct and indirect predictors of the work-family multiple-role planning intent of female university students. Second, the strongest predictive factor for the work-family multiple-role planning intent is the social environment factor (subjective norms), indicating that the influence of social pressure on intent is relatively large. The predictive model formulated under this study's integrated theoretical framework supplements existing research that focused on attitudes toward multiple-role planning as well as provides a more profound theoretical foundation on which work-family multiple-role planning behaviors can be better understood.
Objective: This study examined the influences of maternal and paternal psychological control and children's rejection sensitivity on relational aggression in elementary school students, and investigated whether children's rejection sensitivity mediated the relation of parental psychological control and relational aggression. Methods: The participants of this study were 596 fifth to sixth graders from seven elementary schools located in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi province. To measure the research variables, the Peer Conflict Scale (Marsee, Kimonis, & Frick, 2004), the Psychological Control Scale (Barber, 1996) and the Children's Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire (Downey, Lebolt, $Rinc\acute{o}n$, & Freitas, 1998) were used. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and t -tests. Also, structure equation model (SEM) were used to examine the mediating role of rejection sensitivity. Results: The results of this study were as follows. First, the level of paternal psychological control increased the level of children's relational aggression whereas the level of maternal psychological control had no significant effect on it. In addition, the level of rejection sensitivity had a significant positive influence on the level of relational aggression. These tendencies were observed on both boys and girls. Second, only for boys, rejection sensitivity in upper elementary school students partially mediated the relation between paternal psychological control and relational aggression. Also, for both boys and girls, rejection sensitivity completely mediated the relation between maternal psychological control and relational aggression. Conclusion: In conclusion, the higher the level of paternal psychological control, the higher the level of children's rejection sensitivity, and subsequently the higher the level of their relational aggression.
The purpose of this study was to examine the role of self-esteem (SE) and cooperation (CO) in the effect of parental attitudes (PA) as perceived by children on the quality of peer relationships (PR). To this end, the data of 1299 boys and 1278 girls in 4th grade were analyzed using the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey data. The correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling using phantom variables and bootstrapping were performed by using SPSS and AMOS programs. The results of this study are as follows. First, perceived PA had a significant effect on SE, CO, and PR, SE had a significant effect on CO and PR, and CO had a significant effect on PR. Second, the serial multi-mediating model that assumed that SE and CO mediate the relationship between PA and PR was found to be appropriate. These results suggest that it is important to consider the child's self-esteem and cooperation with parenting attitudes to improve the child's peer relationship. Future research and clinical implications were discussed.

A puc-deleted cell of Rhodobacter sphaeroides grows with a doubling time longer than 160 h under light-limiting photoheterotrophic (3 Watts [W]/㎡) conditions due to an absence of the peripheral light-harvesting B800-850 complex. A spontaneous fast-growing mutant, R. sphaeroides SK101, was isolated from the puc-deleted cells cultured photoheterotrophically at 3 W/㎡. This mutant grew with an approximately 40-h doubling time. The growth of the mutant, however, was indistinguishable from its parental strain during photoheterotrophic growth at 10 W/㎡ as well as during aerobic growth. The membrane of SK101 grown aerobically did not reveal the presence of any spectral complex, while the amounts of the B875 complex and photosynthetic pigments of SK101 grown anaerobiclly in the dark with dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) were the same as those of the parental cell. These results indicate that the oxygen control of the photosynthetic complex formation remained unaltered in the mutant. The B875 complex of SK101 under light-limiting conditions was elevated by 20% to 30% compared with that of the parental cell, which reflected the parallel increase of the bacteriochlorophyll and carotenoid contents of the mutant. When the puc was restored in SK101, the B875 complex level remained unchanged, but that of the B800-850 complex increased. The mutated phenotype of SK101 was complemented with orfQ encoding a putative bacteriochlorophyll-mobilizing protein. Accordingly, it is proposed that the mutated OrfQ of SK101 should have an altered affinity towards the assembly factor specific to the most peripheral light-harvesting complex, which could be either the B875 or the B800-850 complex.

5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is commonly used for the therapy of colon cancer; however, acquired resistance to 5-FU is a critical barrier to successful treatment and the primary cause of chemotherapy failure. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a process whereby cells undergo alterations in morphology and molecular characteristics promoting tumor progression and metastasis. Accumulating evidence shows that transition from epithelial to mesenchymal phenotype in cancer cells is associated with their resistance to chemotherapy. However, it is still poorly understood whether EMT is involved in acquired resistance to 5-FU. In this study, we developed an in vitro cell model, 5-FU-resistant HT-29 colon cancer cells, and characterized the differences in cellular morphology and molecular alterations between parental and resistant cells. In accord with mesenchymal-like morphology of 5-FU-resistant HT-29 cells, the expression of the mesenchymal marker fibronectin was significantly increased in these cells in comparision with that in the parental cells. Of interest, we also found a marked increase in the expression of EMT-inducing transcription factors Twist, Zeb1, and Zeb2. Finally, 5-FU-resistant cells showed enhanced migration in comparison with parental HT-29. Taken together, these results indicate that EMT could be associated with 5-FU resistance acquired by HT-29 cells. A specific role of each transcription factor found in this study will require further investigation.
