Forecast on Internal Condensation at Balcony Ceiling of Super-high Apartment Building Faced with Open Air (외기에 면한 초고층 아파트 발코니 천정 내부결로 예측)

  • There are a growing number of cases to expand balconies of apartments faced with open air in order to enhance functional satisfaction and efficiency of dwelling space. In case of the balcony expansion at the floor, however, it is difficult to exclude a possibility of bringing about internal condensation due to the difference of temperature between indoor air and outdoor air caused by the Inflow of outer low-temperature air through the upper part of ceilings by failure in completely putting together the outer composite wall panels on the aluminum curtain walls installed at outer walls This study is to forecast possible occurrence of internal condensation around parapets and H-beam located at the inside of balcony ceilings on the uppermost floor of super-high apartment buildings faced with open air in order to provide dwellers with more comfortable environment in the related space and get rid of their uneasiness about the condensation. In this study, we estimated internal condensation, which vary in accordance with humidity pressure distribution, at curtain walls, stone panels or lower parts of slabs that constitute outer space of the residence and are weak against heat, through temperature forecast and temperature distribution interpretation program at normal two-dimension temperature

Analytical and Field Investigation of Bridge Stress Distribution under Proof Load (기지하중을 받는 교량구조물의 현장 계측 및 해석에 따른 응력분포 연구)

  • The objective of the presented study is to develop an efficient procedure of proof load testing for existing bridges. By analytical methods, some of these bridges are not adequate to carry normal highway traffic. However, the actual load carrying capacity is often much higher than what can be determined by conventional analysis. Proof load testing can reveal the hidden strength reserve and thus verify the adequacy of the tested bridge. Proof load level required for meaningful tests should be sufficiently higher than legal load. In the state of Michigan, the legal 11-axle truck can weigh up to 685 kN. In this study, a combination of two military tanks and two Michigan 11-axle trucks was used. The proof loads were gradually increased to ensure the safety of the test. After each move, measurements were taken. For the considered bridge, stress levels were rather low compared to pre-test analysis results. This is due to incorrect material strength, structural contribution of nonstructural components such as parapets and railings, and partially fixed supports.

Development of a Dynamic Deformable Rubber Membrane Parapet to Cope with the Long Term Sea Level Rise and the Abnormal Waves (장기해수면 상승 및 이상파랑에 대비한 동적 가변형 고무막체 파라펫 개발)

  • It's been reported that the global warming effect has invoked the ever increasing typhoon intensity and long-term sea level rise which jointly cause severe wave overtopping over breakwaters or shore dykes. A simple measure to cope with this undesirable change may be just to increase the crest height of the dykes and breakwaters. This is surely effective to prevent wave overtopping, but it also decreases the seaward visibility of coastal waterfront. In this paper, a dynamic deformable rubber membrane parapet which not only reduces wave overtopping in storm period but also secures seascapes in normal days is presented. Several optimal configurations of the parapet are proposed. Through numerical analyses using a nonlinear finite element model and hydraulic experiments, the air controlled expansion and contraction of the parapets, their behavior against wave overtopping and structural stability are investigated.

The structural safety diagnosis of Dabo Pagoda of Bulkuk Temple using analyses of ultrasonic wave velocity (초음파 속도 분석을 통한 불국사 다보탑 구조 안전 진단)

  • We have carried out a nondestructive close examination for the purpose of the structural safety diagnosis of the Dabo Pagoda of Bulkuk temple located in Kyungju, Kyungbuk Korea. For estimating the mechanical properties of each rock block of the pagoda, ultrasonic measurements were conducted at 641 points of 255 blocks. The P-wave velocity ranges from 584m/sec through 5,169m/sec, and averages 2,901m/sec Based on this result, the uniaxial compressive strength was estimated to be $93{\sim}1,943kg/cm^2\;with\;396kg/cm^2$ of average, and the index of weathering is $0.07{\sim}0.88$ with 0.43 of average, which means the moderate degree of weathering. The comparison of the rock strength of each block with the overburden acting on the block reveals that the rock blocks related to the structure of the pagoda are relatively sound for uniform stress, but it is highly possible for a concentrated stress to lead to a partial failure. We suggest a monitoring of cracks due to the concentrated stress. The parapets of 1st and 2nd floors composed of small rock pieces are severely weathered. However, this is not directly related to the structural safety of the pagoda.
