This paper presents an algorithm for 3D building reconstruction from a pair of stereo aerial images using the 3D building model and the linear segments of building. Direct extraction of linear segments from original building images using parametric building model is attempted instead of employing the conventional procedures such as edge detection, linear approximation and line linking A segment measure function is simultaneously applied to each line segment extracted in order to improve the accuracy of building detection comparing to individual linear segment detection. The algorithm has been applied to pairs of stereo aerial images and the result showed accurate detection and reconstruction of buildings.

This study considers an experimental design of disturbance compensation control to improve stabilization performance of main battle tanks. An adaptive non-parametric design technique based on the Filtered-x Least Mean Square(FXLMS) algorithm is applied in the consideration of model uncertainties. The optimal compensator is designed by two-step design procedures: determination of frequency response function of the disturbance compensator which can cancel the disturbance of series of single harmonics by using the FXLMS algorithm and determination of the compensator polynomial which can fit the frequency response function obtained in the first step optimally by using a curve fitting technique. The disturbance compensator is applied to a simple experimental gun-torsion bar-motor system which simulates gun driving servo-system. Along with experimental results, the feasibility of the proposed technique is illustrated. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed control reduces the standard deviation of stabilization error to 47.6% that by feedback control alone. The directional properties of the FXLMS Algorithm such as the direction of convergence and its convergence speed are also verified experimentally.

In this study, the optimal design for the support and the binding device for the protection of crops for the maximum allowable stress of the shape necessary to minimize volume has been proposed. Optimization of the support and the binding device for the crops should be designed to support businesses in terms of profit, in part to reduce the material, and to profit from the ease and speed of working that part of the farmers. We used CATIA for the mechanical design and the ANSYS program for the structural analysis. Additionally, the optimization was performed by PIAnO with seven design variables for the binding device and three parameters for the support. The weight method using a multi-objective function was also determined by the Pareto optimal solution. The volume of the binding device in the optimum design result was found to be reduced by 16%, from $2.278e-005m^3to1.912e-005m^3$. From the result, we confirmed the effectiveness of the design method proposed as a multi-objective function optimization problem.
The characteristics of amplitudes and power spectra of X axial, Y axial, and RZ axial (i.e., body axis) wind forces on a 492 m high-rise building with a section varying along height in typical wind directions are studied via a rigid model wind tunnel test of pressure measurement. Then the corresponding mathematical expressions of power spectra of X axial (across-wind), Y axial (along-wind) and torsional wind forces in $315^{\circ}$ wind directions are proposed. The investigation shows that the mathematical expressions of wind force spectra of the main structure in across-wind and torsional directions can be constructed by the superimposition of an modified wind spectrum function and a peak function caused by turbulent flow and vortex shedding, respectively. While that in along-wind direction can only be constructed by the former and is similar to wind spectrum. Moreover, the fitted parameters of the wind load spectra of each measurement level of altitude are summarized, and the unified parametric results are obtained. The comparisons of the first three order generalized force spectra show that the proposed mathematical expressions accord with the experimental results well.
In this paper, a new form of linear models referred to as generalized weighted linear models is proposed. The proposed models assume that the relationship between the response variable and explanatory variables can be modelled by a distribution function of the response mean and a weighted linear combination of distribution functions of covariates. This form addresses a structural problem of the link function in the generalized linear models in which the parameter space may not be consistent with the space derived from linear predictors. The maximum likelihood estimation with Lagrange's undetermined multipliers is used to estimate the parameters and resampling method is applied to compute confidence intervals and to test hypotheses.

As demand for electricity in urban areas increases, it is necessary to improve electric power stability by interconnecting neighboring substations and high temperature superconductor (HTS) power cables are considered as a promising option due to its large power capacity. However, the interconnection of substations reduces grid impedance and expected fault current is over 45 kA, which exceeds the capacity of a circuit breaker in Korean grid. To reduce the fault current below 45 kA, a HTS power cable having a fault current limiting (FCL) function is considered by as a feasible solution for the interconnection of substations. In this study, a FCL HTS power cable of 600 MVA/154 kV, transmission level class, is considered to reduce the fault current from 63 kA to less than 45 kA by generating an impedance over 1 Ωwhen the fault current is induced. For the thermal design of FCL HTS power cable, a parametric study is conducted to meet a required temperature limit and impedance by modifying the cable core from usual HTS power cables which are designed to bypass the fault current through cable former. The analysis results give a minimum cable length and an area of stainless steel former to suppress the temperature of cable below a design limit.

This paper is devoted to the parameter optimization of unmanned aerial vehicle's (UAV) flight control laws. Optimization procedure is based on the ideas of mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ control of multi-model plants. By using this approach, some partial $H_2$-terms defining the performance of nominal and parametrically perturbed Flight Control System (FCS) responses to deterministic command signals in stochastic atmosphere as well as $H_{\infty}$-terms defining robustness of the FCS can be incorporated in the composite cost function. Special penalty function imposed on the location of closed-loop system's poles keeps the speed of response and oscillatory properties for both nominal and perturbed FCS in reasonable limits. That is the reason why this procedure may provide reasonable trade-off between the performance and robustness of FCS that are very important especially for UAV. Its practical importance is illustrated by case studies of lateral and longitudinal control of small UAV.
This study analyses the seismic response of a three-dimensional (3-D) rigid massless square foundation resting or embedded in a viscoelastic soil limited by rigid bedrock. The foundation is subjected to harmonic oblique seismic waves P, SV, SH and R. The key step is the characterization of the soil-foundation interaction by computing the impedance matrix and the input motion matrix. A 3-D frequency boundary element method (BEM) in conjunction with the thin layer method (TLM) is adapted for the seismic analysis of the foundation. The dynamic response of the rigid foundation is solved from the wave equations by taking into account the soil-foundation interaction. The solution is formulated using the frequency BEM with the Green's function obtained from the TLM. This approach has been applied to analyze the effect of soilstructure interaction on the seismic response of the foundation as a function of the kind of incident waves, the angles of incident waves, the wave's frequencies and the embedding of foundation. The parametric results show that the non-vertical incident waves, the embedment of foundation, and the wave's frequencies have important impact on the dynamic response of rigid foundations.
This paper aims at contributing to the field of ship design by introducing new systematic variation methods for ship hull forms. Hull form design is generally carried out in two stages. The first is the global variation considering the sectional area curve. Because the geometric properties of a sectional area curve have a decisive effect on the global hydrodynamic properties of ships, the design of a sectional area curve that satisfies various global design conditions, e.g., the displacement, longitudinal center of buoyancy, etc., is important in the initial hull form design stage. The second stage involves the local design of section forms. Section forms affect the local hydrodynamic properties, e.g., the local pressure in the fore- and aftbody. This paper deals with a new method for the systematic variation of sectional area curves. The longitudinal volume distribution of a ship depends on the sectional area curve, which can geometrically be controlled using parametric variation and a variation that uses the modification function. Based on these methods, we suggest a more generalized method in connection with the derivation of the lines for a new design compared to those for similar ships. This is the so-called the volumetric balanced variation (VOB) method for ship forms using a B-spline modification function and an optimization technique. In this paper the global geometric properties of hull forms are totally controlled by the form parameters. We describe the new method and some application examples in detail.

Recently, support vector learning attracts great interests in the areas of pattern classification, function approximation, and abnormality detection. It is well-known that among the various support vector learning methods, the so-called no-versions are particularly useful in cases that we need to control the total number of support vectors. In this paper, we consider the problem of function approximation utilizing both predetermined basis functions and a no-version support vector learning called $\nu-SVR$. After reviewing $\varepsilon-SVR$, $\nu-SVR$, and a semi-parametric approach, this paper presents an extension of the conventional $\nu-SVR$ method toward the direction that can utilize Predetermined basis functions. Moreover, the applicability of the presented method is illustrated via an example.
