  • The Estimation of State of Charge(SOC) for batteries is an important aspect of a Battery Management System(BMS). A method for estimating the SOC is proposed in order to overcome the individual disadvantages of the current integral and Open Circuit Voltage(OCV) estimation methods by combining them using Extended Kalman filter(EKF). The non-linear characteristics of the Li-Ion RC battery model used in this study is also solved through EKF. The proposed method is simulated in a Matlab environment with a Li-Ion Kokam battery (3.7V, 1,500mAh). Results showed that there is an improvement in the estimation error when using the proposed model compared to the conventional current integral method.

  • The probe vehicle penetration rate is a required parameter in the estimation of entire volume, density, and queue length from probe vehicle data. The previous studies have proposed estimation methods without point detectors, which are based on probability structures for the locations of probe and non-probe vehicles; however, such methods are poorly suited to the case of multi-lane streets. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate the probe vehicle penetration rate at a multi-lane intersection and introduce a probability distribution of the queue length of each lane. Although a gap between estimates and observations was found, the estimates followed the trend of observations; the estimation could be improved by the correction factor hereafter. This study is expected to be used as a basic study for the estimation of entire volume, density, and queue length at multi-lane intersections without point detectors.

  • Recently, the development of computer achieves a system which is similar to the mechanics of human visual system. The 3-dimensional measurement using monocular vision system must be achieved a camera calibration. So far, the camera calibration technique required reference target in a scene. But, these methods are inefficient because they have many calculation procedures and difficulties in analysis. Therefore, this paper proposes a native method that without reference target in a scene. We use the grid type frame with different line widths. This method uses vanishing point concept that possess a rotation parameter of the camera and perspective ration that perspect each line widths into a image. We confirmed accuracy of calibration parameter estimation through experiment on the algorithm with a grid paper with different line widths.

  • In the discrete formulation of the bubble stabilized Legendre Galerkin methods, the system of equations includes the artificial viscosity term as the parameter. We investigate the estimation of this parameter to get the least-squares solution which minimizes the sum of the squares of errors at each node points. Some numerical results are reported.

  • Experiments are conducted to investigate the effects of distance between pads on the film pressure and the inlet pressure build-up at the entrance of pad bearings. The inlet pressure and the film pressure are measured by manometers in several cases of the distance between pads. The experimental results are also compared with the theoretical results which are calculated using the several methods for the estimation of the inlet pressure. In the experimental results , the distance between pads has a large influence on the film pressure and the inlet pressure build-up a bearing entrance. It is also shown that the effects of the inlet pressure on the film pressure are remarkable, although inertia parameter is a little higher (${\ge}0.05$).

  • The present paper develops a method to check the propriety of link functions for binary data. In order to parameterize a certain type of goodness of the link, a family of link functions indexed by a shape parameter is proposed. I first investigate the maximum likelihood estimation of the shape parameter as well as regression parameters and then derive their large sample behaviors of the estimators. A score test is considered to evaluate the goodness of the current link function. For illustration, I employ two families of power transformations, the modulus transformation by John and Draper (1980) and the extended power transformation by Yeo and Johnson (2000), which are appropriate to detect symmetric and asymmetric inadequacy of the selected link function. respectively.

  • The performance of MODEL-BASED controller is influenced by model parameter errors and velocity measurement errors. To reduce this errors, Control methods by parameter adaptation and velocity estimation are studied. But because these controller has complex construction and need much computation time, the implementation of single processor system is difficult. This paper proposes a control scheme which combines an adaptive control law with a sliding observer using transputer network.

  • This paper presents a camera calibration method using several images for three dimensional measurement applications such as stereo systems, mobile robots, and visual inspection systems in factories. Conventional calibration methods that use single image suffer from errors related to reference point extraction in image, lens distortion, and numerical analysis of nonlinear optimization. The camera parameter values obtained from images of same camera is not same even though we use same calibration method. The camera parameters that are obtained from several images of different view for a calibration target is usaully not same with large error values and we can not assume a special probabilistic distribution when we estimate the parameter values. In this paper, the median value of camera parameters from several images is used to improve estimation of the camera values in an iterative step with nonlinear optimization. The proposed method is proved by experiments using real images.

  • We propose a flexible cure rate survival model by assuming that the number of competing causes of the event of interest has the Poisson distribution and the time for the event follows the gamma-G family of distributions. The extended family of gamma-G failure-time models with long-term survivors is flexible enough to include many commonly used failure-time distributions as special cases. We consider a frequentist analysis for parameter estimation and derive appropriate matrices to assess local influence on the parameters. Further, various simulations are performed for different parameter settings, sample sizes and censoring percentages. We illustrate the performance of the proposed regression model by means of a data set from the medical area (gastric cancer).

  • In this article, we proposed a new three-parameter distribution called generalized half-logistic Poisson distribution with a failure rate function that can be increasing, decreasing or upside-down bathtub-shaped depending on its parameters. The new model extends the half-logistic Poisson distribution and has exponentiated half-logistic as its limiting distribution. A comprehensive mathematical and statistical treatment of the new distribution is provided. We provide an explicit expression for the $r^{th}$ moment, moment generating function, Shannon entropy and $R{\acute{e}}nyi$ entropy. The model parameter estimation was conducted via a maximum likelihood method; in addition, the existence and uniqueness of maximum likelihood estimations are analyzed under potential conditions. Finally, an application of the new distribution to a real dataset shows the flexibility and potentiality of the proposed distribution.
