  • The present work is concerned with characterization of surface roughness and inhomogeneity of four kinds of hot-rolled carbon steels in terms of the fractal dimension and the depression parameter by using image analysis method and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, respectively. From the analysis of the 3D AFM image, it is realized that all the hot-rolled steel surfaces show the self-affine fractal property. The values of the fractal dimension of the hot-rolled steels were determined by the analyses of the AFM images on the basis of both the perimeter-area method and the triangulation method. In addition, the Nyquist plots were found to be depressed from a perfect semicircle form. From the experimental findings, the changes in the values of the fractal dimension and the depression parameter with chemical composition have been discussed in terms of the change in the value of hardness of base steel.

  • The oblique incidence technique for ultrasonic nonlinear characterization was studied in stainless steel 316L alloy subjected to high cycle fatigue. A dog-bone plate specimen was prepared to make different faitgue-driven deformation at each position where the stress concentration could occur in the middle of specimen. In addition to the normal transmission technique, the oblique incidence technique which is newly suggested in this study, was used to measure ultrasonic nonlinear parameter. The fatigued specimen shows higher ultrasonic nonlinear parameter than the virgin specimen for both techniques. Ultrasonic nonlinear parameter highly increases in the middle of test specimen where the stress concentration existes. Relative nonlinear parameter has strong correlation with fatigue damage. Consequently, the oblique incidence technique with longitudinal wave can be potential to characterize high cycle fatigue damage.

  • In the high-frequency characterizations of planar circuit components, measurement data may not be physical. It is mainly due to resonance effects concerned with discontinuities which are inevitable for a planar component characterization. In this paper, a novel accurate transmission line characterization method is presented that excludes the resonance effects based on measurement data reconfirmation. For the physically obvious data acquisition near the resonance frequencies of a transmission line, the additional lines with different line lengths are fabricated on the same substrate. The test transmission lines are characterized by using vector network analyzer (VNA) in 100 MHz to 26.5 GHz. It is shown that an accurate transmission line characterization can be achieved with the proposed measurement data reconfirmation technique.

  • For a linear operator Q from R(sup)d into R(sup)d and 0$\alpha$ and parameter b on the other. characterization of strictly (Q,b)-semi-stable distributions among (Q,b)-semi-stable distributions is made. Existence of (Q,b)-semi-stable distributions which are not translation of strictly (Q,b)-semi-stable distribution is discussed.

  • Maximal surfaces have a prominent place in the field of differential geometry, captivating researchers with their intriguing properties. Bearing a direct analogy to the minimal surfaces in Euclidean space, investigating both their similarities and differences has long been an important issue. This paper is aimed to give a local characterization of maximal surfaces in 𝕃3 in terms of their geodesic curvatures, which is analogous to the minimal surface case presented in [8]. We present a classification of the maximal surfaces under some simple condition on the geodesic curvatures of the parameter curves in the line of curvature coordinates.

  • In many applications, received signal strength indicator is used for location tracking and sensor nodes localization. For location finding, the distances between sensor nodes can be estimated by converting received signal's power into distance using path loss prediction model. Many researches have done the analysis of power-distance relationship for radio channel characterization. In indoor environment, the general conclusion is the non-linear variation of RSSI values as distance varied linearly. This has been one of the difficulties for indoor localization. This paper presents works on indoor RSSI characterization based on statistical methods to find the overall trend of RSSI variation at different places and times within the same room From experiments, it has been shown that the variation of RSSI values can be determined by both spatial and temporal factors. This two factors are directly indicated by the two main parameters of path loss prediction model. The results show that all sensor nodes which are located at different places share the same characterization value for the temporal parameter whereas different values for the spatial parameters. Using this relationship, the characterization for location estimation can be more efficient and accurate.

  • Phase change memory (PCM) has attracted much attention as one of the most promising candidates for next-generation nonvolatile memory. In that regard, the purposes of the study are to propose reference of effective pulse parameter to control phase switching operation and to invest the effect of nitrogen doped in PCM materials for improved cycling stability and economic energy consumption. Switching operation of PCM is affected by electric pulse parameter and as shown in figure.1 are composed to RT(rising time), ST(setting time), FT(falling time) and the effect of these parameter was precisely investigated. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) was used to confirm fine structure and retention cycle test was conducted to confirm reliability. Finally improvement reliability and economic power consumption in quantitatively are obtainable by optimum pulse parameter and nitrogen doping in GST material. these study is related to the engineering background of other semiconductor industries and it have confirmed to possibility further applications.

  • This paper proposed an analyzable parameter and its analytic method to provide more accurate information than currently employed 4 channels system which uses pulse wave velocity (PWV) information of the volume pulse wave measured from 4 arterial channels for the characterization of arterial vessel. In order to verify the volume pulse waves on 4 sites were simultaneously acquired subjects aged from 12 to 81 years old. and the proposed parameters were extracted from time (UT) was then compared with blood pressure. Then, the regression analyses were done relationships among the proposed parameter and others, such as aging, pulse transit time pressure (BP). The followings are the results of linear regression analysis of the proposed parameter for total 50 normal subjects. We selected any two subjects (58 years and 27 years) and measured PPG (photoplethysmogram) and BP of before and after exercise. The coefficient of correlations between BP and UT observed was -0.928 for 50 years subject, and -0.922 for 20 years subject. For total 50 normal subjects, in case of correlation between the pulse transit time and BP, the result showed -0.170 on left side and -0.233 on right side, and the coefficient value of correlation between the pulse transit time and UT was -0.607 on left side and -0.510 on right side. UI is strongly correlated with the pulse transit time than BP. Hence, we believe that the proposed parameter is related with the index of arterial stiffness.

  • This paper presents the characterization of through hole vias on printed circuit board (PCB) through the time domain and frequency domain measurements. The time domain measurement was performed on a single via using the TDR, and the model parameters were extracted by the fitting simulation using HSPICE. The frequency domain measurement was also performed by using 2 port VNA, and the model parameters were extracted by fitting simulation with ADS. Using the ABCD matrices, the do-embedding equations were derived probing in the same plane in the VNA measurement. Based on the single via characterization, the differential via characterization was also performed by using TDR measurements. The time domain measurements were performed by using the odd mode and even mode sources in TDR module, and the Parameter values were extracted by fitting with HSPICE. Comparing measurements with simulations, the maximum calculated differences were $14\%$ for single vias and $17\%$ for differential vias.
