  • In this paper, we present the performance of a multi-code parallel combinatory CDMA system using bi-orthogonal modulation under multipath fading channel. In general, the dynamic range of the amplitude of the transmit signal is very large in conventional multi-code CDMA systems, resulting in severe nonlinear distortion due to high power amplifier and thus significant BER performance degradation. Since the number of simultaneously multiplexed code channels in the proposed system is reduced, the proposed system exhibits reduction of peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmit signal amplitude with significant BER improvement. We verify the performance of the proposed system by computer simulations under the Vehicular B multipath fading channel model by ARIB.

  • The Active Appearance Model (AAM) is a class of deformable models, which, in the segmentation process, integrates the priori knowledge on the shape and the texture and deformation of the structures studied. This model in its sequential form is computationally intensive and operates on large data sets. This paper presents another framework to implement the standard version of the AAM model. We suggest a distributed and parallel approach justified by the characteristics of the model and their potentialities. We introduce a schema for the representation of the overall model and we study of operations that can be parallelized. This approach is intended to exploit the benefits build in the area of advanced image processing.

  • Indoor air quality becomes of a concern recently in view of human health. This study investigates the air diffusion performance and the air change efficiency of a classroom, when outdoor air is introduced in two different ways in addition to the heating/cooling operation of a ceiling-mounted heat pump. A CFD analysis has been performed to investigate the effect of the discharge angle of the air jets from the heat pump for both parallel and series types of outdoor air system. It is observed that the series type creates more uniform indoor environment compared to the parallel type in general. It can be concluded the discharge angle should not be larger than 40o for the parallel type, in order not to generate thermal stratification in the room.

인터넷 수퍼컴퓨팅 기술의 구현 (Realization of Internet Supercomputing Technology)

  • In this work, Internet Supercomputing methodology is introduced and the concept is materialized for large-scale finite element analysis. The primary resources of Internet Supercomputing are numerous idling PCs connected by Internet with no regards to their locations. Therefore, it becomes one of the most affordable ways to achieve supercomputing power unlimitedly if the appropriate parallel algorithm and the operating program are developed for this slow network environment. Under the above concept, virtual supercomputing system InterSup I is constructed and tested. To establish the InterSup I system, 64 CPU nodes, which are located in several places and connected by Internet, are conscripted, and parallel finite element software is developed for linear static analysis of structures based on the parallel multi-frontal algorithm. By the established InterSup I system, analysis of finite element structural model having around five million DOFs are solved to check the affordability and effectiveness of Internet Supercomputing.

Go와 C++ TBB의 병렬처리 비교 (Comparison of Go and C++ TBB on Parallel Processing)

  • Applying concurrent structure and parallel processing are a common issue for these day's programs. In this research, Dynamic Programming is used to compare the parallel performance of Go language and Intel C++ Thread Building Blocks. The experiment was performed on 4 core machine and its result contains execution time under Simultaneous Multi-Threading environment. Static Optimal Binary Search Tree was used as an example. From the result, the speed-up of Go was higher than the number of cores, and that of TBB was close to it. TBB performed better in general, but for larger scale, Go was partially faster than the other.

  • This paper considers the nonidentical parallel machine scheduling problem in which n jobs having different due dates are to be scheduled on m nonidentical parallel machines. For the make-to-order manufacturing environment, the objective is to minimize the number of tardy jobs. A 0-1 nonlinear programming model is formulated and a heuristic algorithm that allocates and sequences jobs to machines is developed. The proposed algorithm makes use of the concept of assignment problem based on the suitability measure as the cost coefficient. Computational experiments show that the proposed algorithm is superior to the existing one in some performance measures such as number of tardy jobs. In addition, this algorithm is appropriate for solving real industrial problems efficiently.

  • This paper proposes a heuristic scheduling algorithm to satisfy the customer's due date in the production process under make to order environment. The goal is to achieve the machine scheduling in the transformer winding process, in which consists of parallel machines with different machine performances. The winding is important production process in the transformer manufacturing company. The efficiency of the winding machines is different according to the voltage capacity and the winding type. This paper introduces a heuristic approach in the transformer winding process where the objective function is to minimize the total tardiness of jobs over due dates. The numerical experiment is illustrated to evaluate the performance.

  • This paper presents a method and implementation of the parallel distributed sample scrambler(DSS) in the cell-based ATM transmission environment. In the serial processing, it requires very high speed clock because the processing clock of the serial DSS is equal with the data transmission speed. In this paper, we develop a conversion method of the serial SRG(shift register generator) to 8bit parallel realization. In this case, it has a sample data processing problem which is a character of DSS. So, a theory of correction time movement is presented to solve this problem. We has developed a ASIC using this algorithm and verified the recommendation of ITU-T, I.432.

  • The pressure ripples are inevitabilitily generated by a fluctuation of flow rate caused pump mechanism, which occur noises, vibrations, and affect a control performance in tluid pipeline. The method for reduction of pressure ripples has been normally used a accumulator which is installed near the pump generating the pressure ripples. This paper introduces the parallel pipeline as a method to reduce pressure ripples in tluid pipeline, and confirms the usefulness of it in reducing the pressure ripples as compared with the fluid pipeline with a accumulator using AMESim(Advanced Modeling Environment for Simulations) Software.

6축 병렬형 순응기구를 이용한 위치/힘 동시제어 (Kinestatic Control using Six-axis Parallel-type Compliant Device)

  • In this paper, the kinestatic control algorithm using a six-axis compliant device is presented. Unlike the traditional control methods using a force/torque sensor with very limited compliance, this method employs a compliant device to provide sufficient compliance between an industrial robot and a rigid environment. This kinestatic control method is used to simply control the position of an industrial robot with twists of compensation, which can be decomposed into twists of compliance and twists of freedom. A simple design method of a six-axis parallel-type compliant device with a diagonal stiffness matrix is presented. A compliant device prototype and kinestatic control hardware system and programming were developed. The effectiveness of the kinestatic control algorithm was verified through two kinds of kinestatic control experiments.
