  • This paper describes the design of ECG data preprocess module for the ECG signals. This module process the data obtained from two channels. It is composed of the AID converter, QRS detector, one chip micro-computer and memory. This module performs the following functions;digital filtering, R wave detection and determination of reference point for the ST segment. The measured points are transfered to the next data module by the interrupt process. This preprocessor data module is available to the basis for the parallel data processing for the real time automatic diagnosis.

  • This paper proposes the channel-access protocol suitable to a very high speed photonic WDM network with star configuration, which can provide a high channel utilization and insensitivity to the propagation delay. The proposed protocol employs a control channel and a simple status table to deal with the propagation delay which has been a major limiting factor in the performance of the very high speed optical communication networks. The control channel transmits control information in order to reserve access on data channels, and each node constitutes a status table after the reception of control pckets which holds information about the availbility of destination node and data channel. The proposed protocol is insensitive to the propagation delay time by removing necessity of the retransmission and by allowing parallel transmission of control packet and data packets. It is proved in analysis and discrete event simulation that the proposed protocol is superior in throughput and mean delay, especially at the high load conditions compared to the existing high speed channel-access protocols.

  • Commercial semicontinuous cast ingots of aluminum alloys often exhibit large grains composed of parallel arrays of continuous lamellae. Each lamella consists of a central {111} coherent twin boundary and wavy solidification boundary. This microstructure is referred to as a twin columnar growth(TCG) structure. The factors influencing the formation of a TCG structure include a unidirectional thermal gradient and the critical range of the alloying element content. The higher the thermal gradient is, the shorter the twin plane spacings are. The composition profile for an untwinned dendrite shows maximums at the positions of the interdendritic channels and the minimum appears at the center of the dendrite. While for twinned dendrite, it has wavy apperance. This profile has two local minimums instead of one shown in the untwinned.

  • This paper deals with a novel structure for single-cell characterization which makes use of bimorph micro thermal actuators combined with electrical sensor device and integrated microfluidic channel. The goal for this device is to capture and characterize individual biocell. Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of bimorph thermal actuator were analyzed with finite element analysis methods. Furthermore, optimization for the dimension of cantilevers and integrated parallel probe systems with microfluidic channels is able to be realized through the virtual simulation for actuation and the practical fabrication of prototype of probes. The experimental value of probe deflection was in accordance with the simulated one.

  • This paper proposes a multimodal generalized Gaussian distribution (MGGD) to effectively model the varying statistical properties of the extrinsic information. A subsidiary maximum likelihood decoding (MLD) algorithm is subsequently developed to dynamically select the most suitable MGGD parameters to be used in the component maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoders at each decoding iteration to derive the more reliable metrics performance enhancement. Simulation results show that, for a wide range of block lengths, the proposed approach can enhance the overall turbo decoding performance for both parallel and serially concatenated codes in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), Rician, and Rayleigh fading channels.

  • In this paper, we focus on maximizing weighted sum energy efficiency (EE) for a multi-cell multi-user channel. In order to solve this non-convex problem, we first decompose the original problem into a sequence of parallel subproblems which can optimized separately. For each subproblem, a base station employs dirty paper coding to maximize the EE for users within a cell while regulating interference induced to other cells. Since each subproblem can be transformed to a convex multiple-access channel problem, the proposed method provides a closed-form solution for power allocation. Then, based on the derived optimal covariance matrix for each subproblem, a local optimal solution is obtained to maximize the sum EE. Finally, simulation results show that our algorithm based on non-linear precoding achieves about 20 percent performance gains over the conventional linear precoding method.

  • In the transmitter of optical communication systems, a time-division multiplexer combines several parallel data streams into a single data stream with a high bit rate. In this paper, we design a 4:1 (4-channels) time-division multiplexer using SiGe HBT with emitter size of 2x8um2. The operation speed is 100bps, the rise and fall times of 20-80% are 34ps and 34ps, respectively and the dissipation of power is 1.50W.

  • The conductance of a microscopic constriction in a two-dimensional electron gas is obtained as a function of both the constriction width and curvature. When the quantized conductance G at plateaus is given by the channel number Nc times the quantum unit 2e2/h, Nc is found to be a function of not only the width and but also the curvature. At a given W, Nc increases by one whenever the constriction curvature decreases by about a certain value. Until the shape smoothness becomes comparable to the two parallel boundaries, there exist more channels avaliable for conduction in a smaller-curvature constriction than in a larger-curvature one. This result is very interesting because Nc has been considered to depend on the width W only. this reflects that the number of the quantized transverse levels depend o both the constriction width and curvature in a two-dimensional electron gas.

  • The Kyunggi Bay (125-l28E, 36-38N) is a macro-tidal bay in the western central port of Korean Peninsula(Fig. 1). The Bay characterizes its feature as wide tidal flats, deep tidal channels and tidal sand ridges running in parallel to tidal flows. The macro-tidal range (up to approximately 8.6m) and consequent strong tidal currents erode the bottom sediment and selectively transport to the low-energy area forming tidal ridges or tidal flats. • The ISO(International Standard Organization) has standardized MPEG-2 audio. The MPEG-2 audio compression algorithm is based upon subband analysis and exploits the human auditory characteristics to achieve a low bit rate with minimum perceptual loss of audio signal quality. This thesis presents an enhanced MPEG-2 audio encoder using multiple TMS320C30 general purpose DSP's. The developed system is made up of five slave boards and one master board. Each slave board performs susband analysis psychoacoustic parameter calculation for one channel, and the master board manages bit allocation, quantization, and bit-stream formatting for all channels. Parallel processing and pipelining techniques are used in hardware structure and fast algorithms are applied in each subroutine to implement a real-time process. The implemented system supports multichannel up to 5.1 and various bitrates.
