Parallel and distributed simulation is concerned with the efficient execution of large-scale discrete event simulation models on multiprocessors and distributed platforms. After the development of WWW, many efforts in the parallel and distributed simulation have been made for modeling, particularly building simulation languages and creating model libraries that can be assembled and executed over WWW. However, web-based parallel and distributed simulation is restricted by heterogeneous computing environments. Recently, the advent of XML and web services technology has made these efforts enter upon a new phase. Especially, the web services as a distributed information technology have demonstrated powerful capabilities for scalable interoperation of heterogeneous systems. This paper aims to develop and evaluate the parallel and distributed simulation using the web services technology. In particular, a prototype multi-pass simulation framework is implemented using Java-based web services technology. It focuses on the efficiency of multi-pass simulation used for optimization through the distribution of simulation replication to several simulation service providers. The development of parallel and distributed simulation using web services will help solve efficiently large-scale problems and also guarantee interoperability among heterogeneous networked systems.

This paper presents the Genetic Algorithm based Task Scheduling (GATS) method for the scheduling of programs with diverse embedded parallelism types in Distributed Parallel Systems, which consist of a set of loosely coupled parallel and vector machines connected via high speed networks The distributed parallel processing tries to solve computationally intensive problems that have several types of parallelism, on a suite of high performance and parallel machines in a manner that best utilizes the capabilities of each machine. When scheduling in distributed parallel systems, the matching of the parallelism characteristics between tasks and parallel machines rather than load balancing should be carefully handled with the minimization of communication cost in order to obtain more speedup. This paper proposes the based initialization methods for an initial population and the knowledge-based mutation methods to accommodate the parallelism type matching in genetic algorithms.
This paper proposes a distributed simulator for general control system in CEMTool. Systems can be described by SIMTool likes the simulink in Matlab. For distributed simulation, we can seperate any system into several parallel subsystems in SIMTool. The number of parallel subsystem can be determined by the system's property. After seperation, parallel simulator will do initialization, one-step-ahead simulation, block-distribution and ordering and so on. Finally, simulator will create independent C codes and executive files for each subsystem. The whole system is fulfilled by several PCs, and each PC executes one subsystem. There are communications among these subsystem using reflective memory or ethernet. We have made several experiments, and the 5-stand cold rolling mill control system is our main target. The result of parallel simulation has shown effective speedup in comparison with one pc simulation.

Parallel computing system components should be harmonized, and this harmonization is kept existent using synchronization time. Synchronization time affects the system in two ways. First, if we have too little synchronization time, some tasks face the problem of harmonization, as they need appropriate time to update and synchronize with the system. Second, if we allocate a large amount of time, stall system created. Random allocation of synchronization time for parallel systems slows down not only the booting time of the system but also the execution time of each application involved in the system. This paper presents a simulator used to test and allocate appropriate synchronization time for distributed and parallel heterogeneous systems. The simulator creates the parallel and heterogeneous system to be evaluated, and lets the user vary the synchronization time to optimize the booting time. NS3-cGEM5 simulator in this paper is formed by HLA-RTI federation integration of the two independent architecture and network simulators - NS3 and cGEM5. Therefore, nodes created on these simulators need synchronizations for harmonized system performance. We tested and allocated the appropriate synchronization time for our sample parallel system composed of one x86 server and three ARM clients.

Due to the rapid growth of the amount of data, research on bigdata processing has been highlighted. For bigdata processing, CUBRID Shard is able to support query processing in parallel way by dividing the database into a number of CUBRID servers. However, CUBRID Shard can answer a user's query only when the query is required to gain accesses to a single CUBRID server, instead of multiple ones. To solve the problem, in this paper we propose a CUBRID based distributed parallel query processing system that can answer a user's query in parallel and distributed manner. Finally, through the performance evaluation, we show that our proposed system provides 2-3 times better performance on query processing time than the existing CUBRID Shard.

The objective of Distributed Parallel Computing is to solve the computationally intensive problems, which have several types of parallelism, on a suite of high performance and parallel machines in a manner that best utilizes the capabilities of each machine. In this paper, we propose a computational model including the generalized graph representation method of distributed parallel systems for speedup analysis, and analyze how the super-linear speedup is achieved when scheduling of programs with diverse embedded parallelism modes onto a distributed heterogeneous supercomputing network environment. The proposed representation method can also be applied to simple homogeneous or heterogeneous systems whose components are heterogeneous only in terms of the processor speed. In order to obtain the core speedup, the matching of the parallelism characteristics between tasks and parallel machines should be carefully handled while minimizing the communication overhead.

Distributed Systems can be defined as set of computing resources connected by computer network. One of the most significant techniques in optimization problem domains is parallel genetic algorithms, which are based on distributed systems. Since the status of dynamic network environments such as Internet and mobile computing. can be changed continually, it must not be efficient on the dynamic environments to solve an optimization problem using previous parallel genetic algorithms themselves. In this paper, we propose the effective technique, in which the parallel genetic algorithm can be used efficiently on the dynamic network environments.
When an underground pipeline runs parallel with DC traction systems, it suffers from DC traction interference. Because the train is fed by the substation through the overhead wire and return current back to the substation via the rails. If these return rails are poorly insulated from earth, DC current leak into the earth and can be picked up by nearby pipeline. It may bring about large-scale accidents even in cathodically protected systems. In this paper we analyze the influence on parallel pipelines of distributed ICCP(impressed current cathodic protection) systems for mitigation of DC traction interference using the simulation software CatPro.

Recently, in the field of engineering and scientific and technical calculations, problems of mathematical modeling, real-time problems, there has been a tendency towards rejection of sequential solutions for single-processor computers. Almost all modern application packages created in the above areas are focused on a parallel or distributed computing environment. This is primarily due to the ever-increasing requirements for the reliability of the results obtained and the accuracy of calculations, and hence the multiply increasing volumes of processed data [2,17,41]. In addition, new methods and algorithms for solving problems appear, the implementation of which on single-processor systems would be simply impossible due to increased requirements for the performance of the computing system. The ubiquity of various types of parallel systems also plays a positive role in this process. Simultaneously with the growing demand for parallel programs and the proliferation of multiprocessor, multicore and cluster technologies, the development of parallel programs is becoming more and more urgent, since program users want to make the most of the capabilities of their modern computing equipment[14,39]. The high complexity of the development of parallel programs, which often does not allow the efficient use of the capabilities of high-performance computers, is a generally accepted fact[23,31].

Medium access control is critical in wireless networks for efficient spectrum utilization. In this paper, we introduce a novel collision resolution method based on the technique of known interference cancellation, and propose a new MAC protocol named as CR-MAC, in which AP tries to decode all the collided data packets by combining partial retransmissions and known interference cancellation. As the collided transmissions are fully utilized, less retransmission is required, especially in a crowded network. The NS-2simulation and MATLAB numerical results show that, under various network settings, CR-MAC performs much better than the IEEE 802.11 DCF in terms of the aggregation throughput and the expected packet delay.
