Recently, many researches on bottom ash which is produced in the burning process of power plant are actively performed for its utilization for soil-subbase materials. In this paper, bottom ashes from 5 different power plants are prepared and several tests including compaction, CBR, and tri-axial compression are carried out for mixed bottom ash and weathered soil considering 3 replacement ratio of 30%, 50%, and 70%. Through the tests, CBR result over 20 are evaluated without plastic property, which shows availability of subbase material. With higher increase in replacement ratio of bottom ash, CBR of mixed soil increases due to the higher mechanical performance of bottom ash. However, replacement effects of bottom ash on friction angle and cohesion are evaluated to be little since bottom ash plays a little role in rearrangement of mixed soil. Bottom ash with a good mechanical property is evaluated to have reasonable bearing capacity which shows a good property for subbase materials.
It is known that the best way to recycle fly ash is to use in concrete. It is impossible to bury in the ground this fly ash recently, so it is trying to use high volume fly ash concrete. Nevertheless, recent main research topics are focused in the part of material only, however, it is necessary to perform the research about structural shear behavior. Therefore, in this paper, 27 test members were manufactured with 3 test variables, namely fly ash replacement ratio 0, 35%, 50%, concrete compressive strength 20, 40, 60 MPa and 3 shear stirrups amounts. 27 test members were tested for shear behavior. From the test results, there were no differences between 35%, 50% high volume fly ash cement concrete and ordinary concrete without fly ash (FA=0%).
It is known that the best way to recycle fly ash is to use in concrete. It is impossible to bury in the ground this fly ash recently, so it is trying to use high volume fly ash concrete. Nevertheless, recent main research topics are focused in the part of material only, however, it is necessary to perform the researches about elasticity modulus, stress-strain relationship and structural behavior. Therefore, in this paper, 18 test members were manufactured with 3 test variables, namely fly ash replacement ratio 0, 35, 50%, concrete compressive strength 20, 40, 60 MPa and 2 tensile steel ratio. 18 test members were tested for flexural behavior. From the test results, there were no differences between 35, 50% high volume fly ash cement concrete and ordinary concrete without fly ash(FA=0%).
The results of an experimental study on the manufacture and the mechanical properties of steel fiber reinforced polyester resin composites utilizing industrial waste products(fly ash) are presented in this paper. The composites using steel fiber, fly ash, unsaturated polyester resin, styrene monomer, catalyst (cobalt octate) and accelerator(methyl ethyl ketone peroxide), fine and coarse aggreates were prepared using various mixing conditions.
As the test results show. the mechanical and physical properties, such as the compressive, tensile and flexural strengths, and the setting shrinkage of fly ash$\cdot$polyester resin composites were improved considerably by increasing the fly ash-binder ratio. And the workability of steel fiber reinforced fly ash$\cdot$polyester resin composites was reduced with increasing the fly ash-binder ratio and steel fiber content. Also, the compressive, flexural strength and toughness of the composites were remarkably increased by increasing steel fiber content.
This paper deals with the result of thermal resistance test with backfill materials as bottom ash by using backfill material. Bottom ash, one of coal ashes, can be reused to replace sand because of its similar engineering properties. But without considering the thermal property, the abuse of bottom ash resulted in damage for existing structures. To investigate the thermal conductivity of bottom ash, laboratory tests for thermal resistance of that were carried out in this study. Thermal properties of bottom ash was compared with those of in-situ soil, sand, backfill material which can be applied as filling material. The tests were classified by water contents defined as the major influence factor. The beneficial use method of bottom ash was suggested as backfilling material.
Recently, the treatment of coal ashes produced from thermal electric power plants have been raised as a serious problem in according to the increasing of electric power demand in Korea. This paper deals with a re -use method of coal ash as a fill material. Two domestic coal ashes are mixed with cement and lime to improve the mechanical properties of coal ash. The mechanical properties such as compressive strength, compressive deformation, permeability and frost heaving property are investigated in according to the change of admixture rate, curing temperature and curing time. In this study, it is found coal ash (fly ash+bottom ash) and fly ash with 2%~3% cement can be used as a fill material, respectively. It is also found the frost heaving properties of coal ash is effectively improved by the mixture of 6%~9% cement.

This paper presents findings from the assessment of the volcanic ash fragility for multi-hazard resisting vinyl greenhouse and livestock shed among the agricultural facilities. The volcanic ash fragility was evaluated by using a combination of the FOSM (first-order second-moment) method, available statistics of volcanic load, facility specifications, and building code. In this study, the evaluated volcanic ash fragilities represent the conditional probability of failure of the agricultural facilities over the full range of volcanic ash loads. For the evaluation, 6 types(ie., 2 single span, 2 tree crop, and 2 double span types) of multi-hazard resisting vinyl greenhouses and 3 types(ie., standard, coast, and mountain types) of livestock sheds are considered. All volcanic ash fragilities estimated in this study were fitted by using parameters of the GEV(generalized extreme value) distribution function, and the obtained parameters were complied into a database to be used in future. The volcanic ash fragilities obtained in this study are planning to be used to evaluate risk by volcanic ash when Mt. Baekdu erupts.

Effect of silica fume on fresh properties, compressive strength at 28 days and fracture behavior of fly ash concrete composite were studied in this paper. Test results indicated that the fluidity and flowability of fly ash concrete composites decreased and fly ash concrete composite are more cohesive and appear to be sticky with the addition of silica fume. Addition of silica fume was very effective in improving the compressive strength at 28 days of fly ash concrete composite, and the compressive strength of fly ash concrete composite has a trend of increase with the increase of silica fume content. Results also indicated that all the fracture parameters of effective crack length, fracture toughness, fracture energy, the critical crack opening displacement and the maximum crack opening displacement of fly ash concrete composite decreased with the addition of silica fume. When the content of silica fume increased from 3% to 12%, these fracture parameters decreased gradually with the increase of silica fume content. Furthermore, silica fume had great effect on the relational curves of the three-point bending beam specimen. As the silica fume content increased from 3% to 12%, the areas surrounded by the three relational curves and the axes were becoming smaller and smaller, which indicated that the capability of concrete composite containing fly ash to resist crack propagation was becoming weaker and weaker.
This paper presents the properties of pervious concrete containing high-calcium fly ash. The water to binder ratios of 0.19, 0.22, and 0.25, designed void ratios of 15, 20, and 25%, and fly ash replacements of 10, 20, and 30% were used. The results showed that the use of fly ash as partial replacement of Portland cement enhanced the mixing of paste resulting in a uniform mix and reduced amount of superplasticizer used in the mixture. The compressive strength and flexural strength of pervious concrete were slightly reduced with an increase in fly ash replacement level, while the abrasion resistance increased due mainly to the pozzolanic and filler effects. The compressive strength and flexural strengths at 28 days were still higher than 85% of the control concrete. The aggregate size also had a significant effect on the strength of pervious concrete. The compressive strength and flexural strength of pervious concrete with large aggregate were higher than that with small aggregate.
This paper describes the effects of fly ash replacement on the sulfate resistance of antiwashout underwater concrete which was replaced cement by fly ash from 0% to 50%. and the experimental works were performed on sulfate acceleration test of 5%$Na_2SO_4$ solution to find out the variance of length and weight of specimens. The experimental result shows that the length of specimens of antiwashout underwater concrete age at 180day was highly increased compare with normal concrete by acceleration test. but the mixture which was replaced 50% of fly ash shows reduction of the expansion, weight various, compare with normal concrete specimen. accordingly by using fly ash as admixture in antiwashout underwater concrete in sea environment, it will makes more durable for the attacks of sulfate by sea water.
