A development of quadruped walking robot with 3-D orthogonal legs using pantograph mechanism (팬터그라프 기구를 이용한 3차원 수직 직교형 다리 기구를 가진 4각 보행로봇의 개발)

  • Because the leg mechanism of walking roblt affect on the mobility and energy efficiency, we focus on the design of new leg mechanism based on the previous leg mechanisms. We mention the deficiency of the previous leg mechanisms and propose a new leg mechanism that consists of a 2-d.o.f pantograph mechanism and a vertical linear actuator. The pantograph mechanism is attached to the horizontal plane of the body and the verical linear actuator is vertical to that plane. In order to design a quadruped walking robot, we consider the kinematics of the 2-d.o.f pantograph mechanism and the arrangement of twol linear motion guides that drive the pantograph mechanism.

  • The development of tilting train has been required for speed-up on the conventional electric railroad due to the characteristic of Korean railroad with a lot of curve track. The study and development of a tilting system and a tilting bogie which have a different mechanism with high speed train will play a important role for enhancement of technology for Korean railway. The study for tilting pantograph mechanism to decrease the displacement between a catenary and a center of pantograph happened when the carbody is tilted in order to maintain the ride comfort and stability m a curving track is proceeding with the development of tilting train. In this paper, we introduce the design concept for the tilting mechanism of pantograph and the role and characteristics for several devices adopted in the tilting mechanism of pantograph. Through the kinematic analysis of tilting mechanism, we will obtain and calculate the optimal tilting angular velocity and acceleration in order to keep the contact behavior of a pantograph and a catenary according to tilting of a carbody.

  • The development of a tilting train with construction of electric line on the conventional railway is required for speed-up on the conventional railway with many curving sections. For development of tilting train, the study and development of the tilting system and tilting bogie having the different mechanism with a general high speed train will play a main role for improving the technology in the field of Korean railway The study and development of the pantograph tilting mechanism in order to keep a good contact behavior between a pantograph and a contact wire by tilting a pantograph on the opposite direction of the vehicle tilting direction. In this study, we analyzed the aerodynamic characteristic of a developing pantograph on the tilting train and obtained the contact force with catenary by aerodynamic lift force by the aerodynamic analysis. We also performed the numerical analysis for design the device controlling lift force on a pantograph. From the aerodynamic simulation and parameter study for a device to control the lift force, we will suggest the various shape and the optimal shape of it corresponding to a developing tilting pantograph. The Fluent software is used for the calculation of flow profile in this study.

  • In general, pantograph type manipulators are used for carrying heavy payloads with positional accuracy. In this paper, a double pantograph type manipulator, activated by two slider joints, is studied for applying to file handing machine in atomic power plant. In order to realize the stable horizontal movement of a heavy fuel rod whit good positional accuracy, methods for allocating slider and finding constant joint rates are proposed. In addition, the static deflection of the proposed mechanism was studied using transfer-stiffness matrix method. A neural network control algorithm which compensates static deflections is explored with computer simulations.

  • This paper presents design and analysis of a 6 degree-of-freedom new haptic device using a par-allel mechanism for interfacing with virtual reality. The mechanism is composed of three pantograph mecha-misms that, driven by ground-fixed servomotors. stand perpendicularly to the base plate. Three spherical joints connect the top of the pantograph with connecting bars, and three revolute joint connect connecting bars with a mobile joystick handle. Forward and inverse kinematic analyses have been performed and the Jacobian matrix is derived by using the screw theroy. Performance indices such as GPI(Global Payload Index), GCI(Global Conditioning index), Traslation and Orientation workspaces, and Sensitivity are evaluated to find optimal pa-rameters in the design stage. The proposed haptic mechanism has better load capability than those of the ex-isting haptic mechanisms due to the fact that motors are fixed at the base. It has also wider orientation work-space mainly due to RRR type spherical joints.

  • Conceptual design of the pantograph for high speed trains of 350km/h is introduced. The aims to be accomplished in the concept design are the good dynamic performance, low noise, aero-dynamic stability. The resulting mechanism of the pantograph have single-arm type structure with bebel gears to reduce noise sources, symmetric structure for the aero-dynamic stability and the special panhead assembly to obtain good dynamic performances.

  • On curved rail, the speed of train must be reduced in order to keep riding comfort. So, the train has the speed limitation in conventional railway line. But if the train has the tilting mechanism, the speed of train is able to be increased while maintaining the riding comfort. Generally, the tilting train is faster than the non-tilting train about 30% in curve. The tilting train technology and reduction of travel time has been carefully investigated by KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute). Based on the primary research result from KRRI, tilting control system and tilting operation interlace are considered its core technology to apply tilting train to Korean conventional railway. In this paper application of non-tilting pantograph to tilting system will be introduced. New type of bogie frame and system modification of vehicle are invented to apply non-tilting pantograph to tilting train.

  • The stability, energetic efficiency and walking volume are affected by the geometric structure of legs of a walking robot. A quadruped walking robot is considered to have large stability margin among the walking robots and pantograph leg permits large walk stroke and mutually independent vertical and horizontal movements, but the kinematic characteristics are difficult to analyze. Graphical method may be useful to characterize three dimensional legged motion of the pantograph mechanism. We present the modelling method for three different quadruped robots with pantograph legs that have different joints mechanism. The modeled robots are animated by a path that is planned with respect to the center of body. In particular, graphical animation incorporates leg control to rotation and side walking and uses the window of Sun-3 system for displaying joint information.
