In this paper, non-linear dynamic buckling behaviour of laminated composite curved panels subjected to dynamic in-plane axial compressive loads is studied using finite element methods. The work is carried out using the finite element software ABAQUS. The curved panels are modelled with S4R element and the nonlinear dynamic equilibrium equations are solved using the ABAQUS/Explicit algorithm. The effect of aspect ratio, radius of curvature and thickness are studied. The importance of orientation of plies in the direction of loading is also reiterated in this study. Vol'mir's criterion is used to calculate the dynamic buckling loads. The panels are subjected to rectangular pulse load of various amplitude and durations and the responses are observed. For particular loading amplitude, a critical value of loading duration is observed beyond which the variation of dynamic buckling load is insignificant. It is also observed that, the value of dynamic bucking load reduces as the loading duration is increased though the reduction is not much after a particular loading duration.

The postbuckling analysis of composite curved panels subjected to lateral loading was conducted by a nonlinear finite clement program, ACOS. Two kinds of graphite/epoxy composite materials, URN300 and USN 125 were tested to verify the finite element analysis. High stiffness composite material, URN300 curved panels showed the critical failure prior to initial buckling. On the contrary USN 125 curved panels showd no severe damage after snap-through. In both panels, the finite element and experimental results showed good agreement.
Many of the bridge systems, including the girders and cross-beams, and concrete decks behave as the special othotropic plates. A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beam and tower structures with irregular cross-sections was developed and reported by D. H. Kim in 1974. Since 1989, The author has extended this method to Vibration analysis of two dimensional problems including composite laminates, and has reported at several conferenes. Frequently, the bridge floor panels are supported by girders and cross beams. Such panels as well as some of the building floor panels can be assumed as simple supported special orthotropic plates. In this paper, the result of application of simple method of vibration analysis developed by D. H. Kim, to the simply supported sandwich panels with point Mass/Masses is presented.

The weight of soundproof panels is an important consideration in the design of both panels and supporting structures. The soundproof panels in noise barriers have to carry their net weight in wet condition respectively the reduced weight and also the weight of the above installed panels in wet condition without showing any failing. In this study, a compression test and a flexural test were performed to determine the maximum vertical load which a wood plastic composites (WPC) panel can bear. In addition, the maximum loading number and height of WPC panels in a noise barrier were calculated for full, simple, and continuous support conditions.

Based on a full layerwise displacement shell theory, the nitration and damping characteristics of cylindrical sandwiched panels with viscoelastic layers are investigated. The transverse shear deformation and the normal strain of the cylindrical hybrid panels are fully taken into account for the structural damping modelling. The present finite element model Is formulated by using Hamilton's virtual work principle and the cylindrical curvature of hybrid panels is exactly modeled. Modal loss factors and frequency response functions are analyzed for various structural parameters of cylindrical sandwich panels. Present results show that the full layerwise finite element method can accurately predict the vibration and damping characteristics of the cylindrical hybrid panels with surface damping treatments and constrained layer damping.

A simple and efficient vibration analysis procedure for stiffened panels with openings and arbitrary boundary conditions based on the assumed mode method is presented. Natural frequencies and modes are determined by solving an eigenvalue problem of a multi-degree-of-freedom system matrix equation derived by using Lagrange's equations of motion, where Mindlin theory is applied for plate and Timoshenko beam theory for stiffeners. The effect of stiffeners on vibration response is taken into account by adding their strain and kinetic energies to the corresponding plate energies whereas the strain and kinetic energies of openings are subtracted from the plate energies. Different stiffened panels with various opening shapes and dispositions for several combinations of boundary conditions are analyzed and the results show good agreement with those obtained by the finite element analysis. Hence, the proposed procedure is especially appropriate for use in the preliminary design stage of stiffened panels with openings.

A numerical investigation has been carried out for the two-dimensional flow and pressure characteristics in a clean room equipped with two kinds of filters and four access panels. The distributed pressure resistance concept was applied to describe the momentum loss in filters and access panels. As a result, the velocity profile in the clean room became rather smooth by the presence of access panels. Furthermore, the average pressure drop of each access panel reached the same value so that the ratio of the flow rate should be the same at any zone. The closing of an access panel with maintaining the other access panels being opened had influenced on the velocity distribution in lower two thirds of left half space of the clean room.
In a high speed train, multi-layered panels for floor, side wall and roof are important sound insulating part. As these multi-layered panels require high bending strength vs. weight, corrugated steels or aluminium honeycomb panel are generally used. However, with some inevitable factors, these panels show lower sound insulation performance than that of the plate with the same weight. Transmission loss(TL) often severely decreases in a particular frequency range because of the decrease of the critical frequency, occurrence of local resonance modes and cavity resonance modes, which are not shown in a plate. In this study, frequency range and cause of the TL drop are investigated on the corrugated and honeycomb panels.
The corrugated panels are the prime candidate structure for the floor, roof and wall of Korean high speed train. The equivalent continuum modeling approach panels can be used for the efficient design and evaluation of their structural characteristics. The equivalent continuum models, derived from the true complex corrugated panels, should have the same structural behavior as the original structures have. This paper briefly reviews three representative continuum modeling methods: the static analysis method and two plate-models based on modal analysis methods (MAM). These methods are evaluated through some numerical examples by comparing the natural frequencies and static deflections. It is observed that the plate-model based on Rayleigh-Ritz method seems to provide the best results when used in conjunction with the cantilever-type boundary conditions. The equivalent elastic constants of various corrugated panels, depending on the changes in their configurations, are tabulated for efficient use in structural design.

This study aims to evaluate the humidity control performance of low-priced generic ceramic panels that are used to control humidity. Temperature and humidity are monitored by using 'Living Lab' and the change of indoor relative humidity is measured and analyzed. According to the results of the study, the indoor relative humidity of rooms installed with ceramic panels was found to be low compared to that of living rooms by 2.2%RH (test period) and 3.2%RH (daily). In the case of maximum relative humidity, rooms installed with ceramic panels were found to be low by 6.9%RH. The results are attributable to the humidity absorption of ceramic panels. Accordingly, future ceramic panels need the improvement of performance and an appropriate construction area should be derived depending on indoor space.
