  • In this study, silicon sludge generated in semiconductor manufacturing process is recycled and applied as materials for pigments and paints. In detail, metallic impurities are removed from silicon sludge to obtain plate-like silicon sludge powder (SW-sludge), which is then coated with titanium dioxide via sol-gel method (TCS-sludge). SW-sludge and TCS-sludge are dispersed in hydrophilic transparent varnish and sprayed onto glass substrates to observe the possibility for the application as materials for pigments and paints. Notably, the applicability of TCS-sludge-based paint is improved compared to SW-sludge-based paint after the titanium dioxide coating. Moreover, the color of TCS-sludge-based paint turns into white. Accordingly, it is confirmed that the applicability and hydrophilicity are improved by the presence of outer titanium dioxide layer. In this regard, it is expected that the recycled TCS-sludge may be a future material for the application as pigments and paints.

  • An electrochemical evaluation on the corrosion resistance for heavy anticorrosive paint(DFT:25um) was carried out for 5 kinds of heavy anticorrosive paints such as high solid epoxy(HE), solvent free epoxy(SE). tar epoxy(TE), phenol epoxy(PE). and ceramic epoxy(CE). Corrosion current densities obtained by Tafel extrapolation method from anodic and cathodic polarization curves didn't correspond with the values obtained by AC impedance measurement, however, the values of polarization resistance obtained from the cyclic voltammogram showed a good tendency corresponding well with the values of AC impedance measurement. Futhermore there was a good correlation against the corrosion resistance evaluation between passivity current density of the anodic polarization curve and diffusion limiting current density of the cathodic polarization curve. And corrosion resistance increased with corrosion potential shifting to noble direction. From the results discussed above. HE and CE had a relatively good corrosion resistance than other heavy anticorrosive paints.

  • Ship painting procedures can be divided into two categories; Out-shell plate painting of the hull and the interior painting of each double gull blocks. It is really hard to apply standardized and automated operations to the latter because the double hull blocks contains a variety of complicated supportive materials and pipes to strengthen the ship structure. In addition their poor working conditions cause painting workers to avoid working in them, resulting in the waste of paints and additional pollution issues. So this research, successfully focused on overcoming the difficulties in working in the complicated blocks and the tough working conditions introduces the main details of automatic equipment systems and their transfer algorism which show how the equipment paints the inner sides of a longitudinal stiffener and moves to another automatically.

  • As the use of various electronic equipments has been increased recently according to industrialization and information network establishment, concern about electromagnetic wave exposed environment has also been increased. Therefore, this study aims to verify electromagnetic wave absorbing effects of inorganic paint that is made of carbon, electro-conductive materials with regard to its physical characteristics, its electromagnetic wave absorbing rate through a mock-up test for proving its effects in the indoor condition. The results are as follows: The results of running tests on electromagnetic wave absorbing inorganic paints for checking their requirements as painting material such as adherence degree, resistance to fine crack, resistance to washing, alkali-resistance, discoloration-resistance, etc. show that inorganic paints have the physical characteristics meeting the requirements for painting materials. In addition, it shows that the electromagnetic wave absorbing effect, in line with the number of paintings and the thickness of paintings, secures $75\~89\%$ of efficiency. And the mock-up test shows that the electromagnetic wave absorbing effect inside building is directly proportional to the distance from the source of electromagnetic wave such as electronic equipments.

  • The response of environmental pollutants can be detected bioanalytically focusing on the source and matrices of concern. Cell culture bioassays are rapid and inexpensive, and thus have great potential for determination of environmental pollution. We have examined the estrogenic and dioxin-like activites of industrial wastewater using E-screen assay and EROD microbioassay. Influent and effluent wastewater were collected from four different industrial wastewater treatment plants, such as cosmetics, paints, textile producing and metal coating plant, and extracted using solid-phase extraction with Oasis@HLB plus cartridge. Pollutants adsorbed to the cartridge were eluted with MTBE. MCF-7 cells were treated with extracts showed various estrogenic potential. The textile wastewater showed strong estrogenic activity and the others showed weak estrogenic activity, No effect was observed in the wastewater from paints producing plant. All extracts showed CYPIA inducing effects, indicating these samples contain dioxin-like chemicals. Bioanalytical results of effluents compared with influents could give us information about the incomplete wastewater treatment and biological potency caused by pollutants. • The important drawback of epoxy electrodeposition(ED) coatings is the lack of the weathering resistance caused by the structure of bisphenol A. To improve this yellowing phenomena, acryl ED coatings have been developed. Compared with the epoxy ED coatings, however, acryl ED coatings are relatively weak in the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. The purpose of this study is complemented their drawbacks by mixing epoxy and acryl ED paints. The salt spray, accelerated weathering test(QUV) and cupping, bending, impact test were employed to investigate the corrosion resistance, weathering resistance, and mechanical properties of ED coatings. When the ratio of acryl to epoxy resin of ED coating is 0.33, the weathering resistances are appropriately improved in condition maintaining the corrosion resistance. It was shown that the weathering resistance for epoxy ED coating was adjusted by optimally mixing acryl ED paint.

  • This study is to analyze durability of water-repellent paints mixed with water-repellents as outer surface finishing materials, and evaluate its feasibility. General functions and water-repelling effects were tested, and the feasibility was evaluated based on the test results. The experimental results of heat conduction durability, air permeability, absorption, and bond strength suggested that water-repellent paints mixed with water-repellents were suitable for finishing materials. Considering overall general durability performances, stable mixing ratios were 2, 5, and 8%.
