  • This paper introduces the surface detailed painterly rendering using heightfield map. To do this, we implement painterly rendering using normal mapping and displacement mapping method by heightfield map. The suggested method can apply to the 3D visualization program and game engine for representing the surface detailed realtime rendering using GPU Programming.

  • Non-photo realistic Rendering is the one of the fields in Computer Graphics and many painterly rendering techniques have been studying. However studies about a specific painter are still in a rarity. Therefore in this paper, we studied about technique for generation of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's portraits. Toulouse-Lautrec was a painter in 19th century. His style of portraits was expressed as follows; the sketch was drawn by conte or pastel in croquis style and colored only focused parts like faces on the base colored area. For simulate this, we propose sequential technique about sketch style image generation and face area painting.

  • The ultimate objective of painterly rendering is to express an inputted image as if it is hand drawn. The factors to express this painterly effect are thickness of the brush, direction, texture and the establishment of criteria judging if the produced brush will be drawn on to the canvas. In this paper, the algorithm using density of the edges in determining the criteria whether the brush will be drawn onto the canvas is proposed. Density of edges refers to the quantity of edge in the specific area. And uses the method of finding the location of the brush to be drawn as a unit of dynamic grid as well as expressing consistent directional through direction interpolation. Also, the texture is expressed using various textured brushes. Considering density of edges,We can express detailed area and abstract area. And it result in more human effect of oil painting.

  • We introduce a new method of painterly rendering. Instead of using the gradient direction of the source image to generate a brush stroke, we extract regions that can be drawn in one stroke using MHN filtering followed by identification of connected components, and make a brush stroke from each, based on an approximation to the medial axis. This method results in realistic-looking brush strokes of varying width that have an irregular directions where necessary.

  • The purpose of painterly rendering is to express real painting work from input image. For expression of real pain ting impression, drawing condition is one of main element. In this paper, we propose new algorithm for using density of edges. Drawing condition of new algorithm uses color difference and density of edges. And for finding next position from current position, we used dynamic grid. We did direction interpolation for coherence direction. Also using various texture brush, we express the feel of a material effective. We show results of images rendered more realistic oil painting effect, and discuss long-term goals for more effective result.

  • Painterly rendering may bring various results through the parameters that determine the characteristics of brush strokes such as, color, orientation, size, and shape. In this paper, we propose the most adaptive brush stroke generation for source images, using reference data. Our algorithm used Colors formed by actual palette colors from artists. To create the palette, we have referred mostly to colors used in Van Gogh's works and determined the color of brush strokes by transferring it to the most similar one, through comparing colors used in source images and the palette colors. Also, In order to emulate a brush stroke with dynamic properties like Van Gogh styles we have applied a brush stroke orientation that surrounds the edges by referring to the edge orientation of source images. The sizes were determined depending on the different sizes of the objects from wide to narrow brushes. Finally, we applied spline curve shapes to simulate curves and swirls like Van Gogh styles. The brush strokes created in such method, were applied separately according to its segmented images, and composed after rendering.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm which represents the distance depiction technique of real painting that named "Aerial Perspective" in painterly rendering. It is a painting technique that depicts the attenuations of light in the atmosphere, and the scattering effect is changed by the distance, altitude and density of atmospheres. For the reflection of these natures, we use the depth information corresponding to an input image and user-defined parameters, so that user changes the effect level. We calculate the distance and altitude of every pixel with the depth information and parameters about shot information, and control the scattering effects by expression parameters. Additionally, we accentuate the occluding edges detected by the depth information to clarify the sense of distance between fore and back-ground. We apply our algorithm on various landscape scenes, and generate the distance-emphasized results compared to existing works.

  • Previous painterly rendering techniques normally use image gradients for stroke generation. Although image gradients are useful for expressing object shapes, it is difficult to express the flow or movements of objects of objects. In real painting, the use of brush strokes corresponding to the actual movement of objects allows viewers to recognize objects’ motion better and express the liveliness of the objects much more. In this paper, we propose a novel painterly stroke generation algorithm to express dynamic objects based on their motion information. We first extract motion information (magnitude, direction) of a scene from a set of image sequences from the same view. Then the motion directions are used for determining stroke orientations in the regions with significant motions. Where little motion is observed, image gradients are used for determining stroke orientations. Our algorithm is useful for realistically and dynamically representing moving objects.
