  • This present experimental study has dealt with the heat transfer characteristics of plastic particle slurry which flows in a circular tube. This type of slurry is suggested for heat transfer enhancement effect cause by random and vortex effect of plastic particle dispersed in water. As a result, the thermal boundary layer becomes thin so the heat transfer coefficient on the tube wall more increase compare to pure water flow. This experimental test section was composed with stainless pipe which has the length of 2000mm, inner pipe diameter of 14mm and outer pipe diameter of 60mm. The most effective and important parameter of this experiment is plastic packing factor(PPF). The focuses of these results are pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient. As results, the friction factor of plastic particle slurry becomes higher at laminar flow region than pure water because of buoyancy effect of plastic particle but the local heat transfer coefficient becomes higher.

  • Injection mold is a manufacturing process used to produce parts of complicated shape at a low cost. Many factors affect the quality of injection molded part during injection molding process. A study on the optimization of injection mold is progressed by using a simulation software like Moldflow. Filling, packing and cooling phases of injection molding processes are analyzed according to the mold design considering the shrinkage of molded part, the degree of filling rate and the wearing of a mold. Taguchi method is applied to analyze the significance of processing parameter and the dynamic characteristics according to the variation of processing parameters. From the results, the mold temperature and packing pressure influenced the shrinkage of injection molded part.

  • Warpage analysis of bobbin, molded by injection molding process was performed. Concerned with a mold design, cooling system was designed based on Taguchi method, the distance between cavity wall and cooling channel was most influent factor amongst four design variables like an inlet temperature of coolant, a coolant flow rate, a diameter of cooling channel, and the distance between cavity wall and cooling channel. Optimal packing processes to reduce the warpage of molded part was analyzed based on the response surface method by considering holding pressure. Their optimal processing conditions were 9.4 seconds, 5.3 seconds, 15.2 seconds, and 85MPa, respectively.

  • This paper deals with an CAE analysis and optimization of injection molding for a mobile phone cover. Two design goals are established in the optimization; one is to switch over the feed system from cold runner to hot runner for the purpose of reducing material costs, and the other is to minimize the warpage in order to improve product quality. By the full-factorial experiments for design parameters, we showed that the cold runner design could be changed to the hot runner design by replacing the current resin with a new resin of higher fluidity. In addition, we could significantly reduce the warpage of the cover product under the hot runner system by optimizing packing pressure and packing time.

  • In this work, perfusive particles are used to form a micro column in a microfluidic chip and flow properties of the micro column are investigated. The packing flow velocity and the column/particle size ratio are shown to be important parameters affecting the packing density of the micro column. Experimental results show that the effect of the column/particle size ratio on the flow resistance of the micro column is negligible. This contrasts with previous works on the effect of the column/particle size ratio on the total pressure drop across the column.

  • Analytical and experimental study were carried out in order to achieve simultaneous coating and injection molding of an automotive armrest. A mold was designed to be included one core and two cavities, which were composed of a substrate cavity and a coating cavity. The materials used were PC/ABS for substrate and 2-component Polyurethane for coating. The predicted flow patterns were in good agreement with experimental results in injection molding and in-mold coating. Based on analysis and experiment, it was found that the optimal processing conditions were packing pressure of 90MPa and holding time of 7sec.

  • In this paper, the correlation of Pressure drop about the Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid was investigated experimentally for vibrating intravascular lung assist device (VIVLAD) and we determined correlation equation to make a prediction about Pressure drop for designing VIVLAD. Design conditions to predict the pressure drop of the modules were studied through an experimental modeling before inserting the artificial lung assist device into as venous. Experiments were performed by distilled water, glycerol/water mixed solution(40% glycerol) of Newtonian fluids. and the bovine blood of non-Newtonian fluids. These fluids were flowed outside and parallel of hollow fiber membranes. Also we measured pressure drop according to the number of the fiber membranes which ware inserted into the inside diameter of shell of 3 cm, and developed the prediction equations by curve fitting method based on correlation between the experimental pressure drop and the frontal area or the packing density of device. The result showed that the Pressure drop and the friction factor of the water/glycerol mixed solution were similar to that of bovine blood. It was showed that the water/glycerol mixed solution (40% glycerol) could be used for measuring the pressure drop and the friction factor instead of the bovine blood. Also, we could estimate the prediction equation of pressure drop and friction factor as the function of Packing density at the number of hollow fibers. We obtained the reliance of the prediction equations because the pressure drop and the friction factor measured from the experiments were similar to that from the prediction equation. These results may be used to further usefulness for the design of VIVLAD.

  • The effects of activated-carbon (AC) packing length on the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) performance was investigated for the hydrogen separation from the multicomponent mixture gas. Linear driving force model was used to describe mass transfer between two phase and coupled Langmuir isotherm was used for each component as a nonlinear adsorption isotherm. When two adsorbents with a different adsorption capacity were packed consecutively in one bed, it is very important to determine the packing ratio of zeolite to activated carbon affecting the purity and recovery of the product. The activated carbon packing length in adsorption tower of 120 cm was determinated by the ending point of $CO_2$ contration. The optimum length of an activated carbon layer was 65 cm for production of high-purity hydrogen.

  • Very little information is known on the canning of fishery products by vacuum pack. In this paper, some fundamental process conditions for the canning of fishery products were investigated. Moisture-controlled mackerel pike, shrimp and oyster were packed in lacquered cans with spice and additives. After sealing, pressure of the cans were reduced by do-aeration through specially designed gas-tight silicone rubber plug previously attacked to the lid. On this investigation, vacuum can prior to thermal processing were set up to 15, 30, 45 and 60 cmHg, The higher vacuum in cans showed the more quick heat transfer in thermal processing. tinder 60 cmHg vacuum, the heat transfer was more quick than that of the conventional water packed products, Under 15 cmHg, however, the heat transfer was markedly increased by air which acted as an insulator in conductive heat transfer. These results demonstrated that high vacuum was essential secure for the heat processing in vacuum pack.

  • The shrinkage of the product in injection molded part occurs due to the volume change with variation of temperature and pressure and is influenced by the processing conditions of injection molding. Mold designers greatly concerns the shrinkage of parts for a high dimensional accuracy. In this study, bar type HIPS specimen with 15x19 grid on the surface was tested. The amount of shrinkage of flow and transverse directions was examined with respect to the injection molding conditions such as melt temperature, injection speed, holding pressure, mold temperature and cooling time. As the packing pressure increased, the difference of shrinkage of both directions is decreased and the absolute shrinkage value also decreased.
