From the extensive screening for small cryptic plasmid among about 23 lactic acid bacteria (LAB), 2.4 kb of cryptic plasmid was isolated from Lactobacillus farciminis strain KCTC 3681 and named as pLF24. The plasmid pLF24 was a circular molecule of 2,396 base-pairs in length with a G+C content of 38%. Two protein-coding sequences could be predicted. ORF1 and ORF2 showed homologies to plasmids of gram-positive bacteria. The replication protein coded by ORF2 and the plus origin, were similar to replication regions of other gram-positive bacteria as shown in plasmids such as pLH2, pLS141-1 and pLC2. The nucleotide sequence of pLF24 was deposited into Genbank data base with an accession number of EU429343. The newly isolated plasmid can be used for construction of shuttle vector in Lactobacillus bacteria.
To determine the effect of different fermentation level on the quality of Nabak Kimchi during storage, this study was carried by analysing the result of physico-chemical properties, microbiological characteristics and sensory evaluation of Nabak Kimchi stored up to 24 days. For the physico-chemical properties, pH, total acidity, reducing sugar, carbon dioxide contents, color values were investigated while for the microbiological characteristics, total microbial counts and lactic acid bacteria were studied. Nabak Kimchi products were fermented at six different level of temperature and time and stored in Kimchi refrigerator at $4^{\circ}C$ for 24 days. As the storage period increased, the pH values of LF15, SF25 and LF25 decreased rapidly after initial fermentation and the pH values of SF4, LF4 and SF15 increased slightly in the beginning and then decreased. total acidity increased as storage period proceeded. the amount of reducing sugar was 4.92mg/ml before fermentation and increased significantly and reached its maximum values then decreased. lightness and redness of Nabak Kimchi decreased as storage period became longer, but yellow of Nabak Kimchi increased during storage. Total microbial counts of SF25 and LF25 reached to the highest at the 6th day and total microbial counts of LF15 reached to the highest at the 12th day and then significantly decreased. However, total microbial counts of SF4, LF4 and SF15 continuously increased up to the 24th day. The number of lactic acid bacteria was similar to the phase of the change of total microbial counts.
Purpose: A study was designed to compare heart rate variability (HVR) of older adults with postprandial hypotension (PPH) with older adults with no PPH. Methods: The samples were community-dwelling older adults (${\geq}$ 60 years old) with PPH (n=35) and without PPH (n=35). HRV was measured by 10 minutes of electrocardiography using Physiolab 400 and analyzed in time domain (SDNN) and with power spectral analysis in frequency domain (TP, LF, HF, LF/HF). Blood pressure was measured every 15 minutes before and until 120 minutes after the meal. Results: All HRV parameters were lower in the PPH group compared to those with no PPH. Specifically the measures of SDNN, TP, LF, and LF/HF of the PPH group were significantly lower (U=385.0, $p$=.008; U=361.0, $p$=.003; U=375.0, $p$=.005; U=368.0, $p$=.004, respectively). Further, the LF and LF/HF of SBP (${\geq}140$ mmHg) group and the LF/HF of DBP (${\geq}$ 90 mmHg) group were significantly lower ($x^2$=6.33, $p$=.042; $x^2$=33.10, $p$ <.001; $x^2$=11.03, $p$=.004, respectively). Conclusion: These findings indicate that the autonomic nervous functions in persons with PPH are less activated than those persons with no PPH. The findings contribute to an understanding of HRV and the association of autonomic nervous function with the mechanism of PPH.
Various factors, such as the adsorption pH, adjuvant dose, and adjuvant age, which affect the adsorption degree and immunogenicity of an antigen, were investigated. In addition, the effect of pH, antigen content, and adjuvant content on immunogenicity was also studied through animal experiments. Within the ranges studied, a low pH for adsorption, freshly preformed gel, and low pH formulation for the combined DTwP-HepB vaccine were preferrable for the adsorption of the antigens. In addition, a higher DT content was found to have a positive effect on the HBsAg immunogenicity in the combined vaccine. Accordingly, considering the factors affecting the adsorption rate and immunogenicity of the antigens, a novel DTwP-HepB vaccine (40 Lf/ml of diphtheria toxoid, 15 Lf/ml of tetanus toxoid, 20 OU/ml of detoxified whole cell pertussis, $24\;\mu\textrm{g}$ of HBsAg, $24\;\mu\textrm{g}\;Al/ml\;of \;Al(OH)_3\;gel,\;776\;\mu\textrm{g}\; Al/ml\;of\;AIPO_4\;gel$, and pH 7.1) was developed, whose immunogenicity was comparable to the case of administrating, separately and simultaneously, a combined DTwP vaccine (40 Lf/ml of diphtheria toxoid, 15 Lf/ml of tetanus toxoid, 20 OU/ml of detoxified whole cell pertussis, $300\;\mu\textrm{g}\;Al/ml\;of\; AIPO_4\;gel$, and pH 7.1) and mono HepB vaccine [$Hepavax^{\circledR},\;24\;\mu\textrm{g}/ml$ of HBsAg and $500\;\mu\textrm{g}\;Al/ml\;of\;Al(OH)_3\;gel$], which satisfies the potency criteria of the K-FDA for a combined DTwP vaccine and mono HepB vaccine.
Lactic acid bacteria were isolated from pig feces for probiotics. The six isolated strains were identified as Lactobacillus paracasei (Lp), Lactobacillus fermentum (Lf), Lactobacillus brevis (Lb), Lactobacillus plantarum (P1 , P2), and Pediococcus pentosaceus (P3) by its sugar utilization, morphological and physiological characteristics. Pl was showed largest antibacterial inhibition zone among the isolated strains. It was against Salmonella gallinarum 25mm, E. coli 20.5mm, Staphylococcus aures 24mm, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa 28mm by inhibitory zone, respectively. Lf was showed hyper acid tolerance, $80\%$ survival rate for 40 minutes, and P1, Lb showed hyper bile tolerance, $408\%,\;283\%$ survival rate for 9 hrs, respectively. Therefore the Lf, P1, and P2 strains were expected to probiotics.

The study was compared for soil chemical and microbial properties as well as growth of the cherry tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum var. cerasiforme) plants environmentally friendly gown for 3 years and 5 years, which had been fertigated with homemade liquid fertilizer (LF) with indigenous microorganism as an additional fertilizer. Treatment included LF with indigenous microorganism for 3 years (3-year IM-LF) and for 5 years (5-year IM-LF), with an effective microorganism for 10 years (EM-LF), which had been applied with 1,000 times of dilution in the farmhouse. IM-LF and EM-LF materials had increased pH pattern for 16 weeks, in particular for increase of 1.2 for EM-LF. IM-LF material contained slightly higher EC but similar level of 0.2 dS/m to EM-LF. For a pot experiment in the greenhouse, IM-LF treatment increased root dry weight of the cherry tomato plants. In the farmhouse experiment, IM-LF treatment increased to 7.5 of soil pH and 8.4 dS/m of EC, indicating high salt accumulation. EM-LF treatment increased to 62 g/kg of soil OM, which would have affected concentrations of macro essential nutrients, including T-N in the soil. However, the optimum soil chemical levels for growth of cherry tomato plants were observed on the IM-LF plots. EM-LF treatment increased number of bacteria and actinobacteria in the soil. EM-LF treatment increased concentrations of macro essential nutrients in the plants, except for P, with similar nutrient concentrations observed between 3-year IM-LF and 5-year IM-LF-treated plants. Leaf SPAD and PS II levels decreased in the plants treated with 3-year IM-LF. EM-LF treatment increased leaf width and length, number of leaves, canopy area, plant height, and stem diameter in the mid-term stage of growth, which were not significantly different between the treatments. EM-LF treated-plants had two times higher leaf dry weight than those of values observed on the IM-LF plants, which was the opposite result observed on the number of fruit.
Background: This study evaluated the effect of remimazolam and propofol on changes in autonomic nerve activity caused by surgical stimulation during orthognathic surgery, using power spectrum analysis of blood pressure variability (BPV) and heart rate variability (HRV), and their respective associations with cardiovascular fluctuations. Methods: A total of 34 patients undergoing Le Fort I osteotomy were randomized to the remimazolam (Group R, 17 cases) or propofol (Group P, 17 cases) groups. Observables included the low-frequency component of BPV (BPV LF; index of vasomotor sympathetic nerve activity), high-frequency component of HRV (HRV HF; index of parasympathetic nerve activity), balance index of the low- and high-frequency components of HRV (HRV LF/HF; index of sympathetic nerve activity), heart rate (HR), and systolic blood pressure (SBP). Four observations were made: (1) baseline, (2) immediately before down-fracture, (3) down-fracture, and (4) 5 min after down-fracture. Data from each observation period were compared using a two-way analysis of variance with a mixed model. A Bonferroni multiple comparison test was performed in the absence of any interaction. One-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey's multiple comparisons test was performed when a significant interaction was observed between time and group, with P < 0.05 indicating statistical significance. Results: Evaluation of autonomic nerve activity in comparison with baseline during down-fracture showed a significant increase in BPV LF (P < 0.001), an increasing trend in HRV LF/HF in Group P, and an increasing trend in HRV HF in Group R. There were no significant differences in HR or SBP between the two groups. Conclusion: During down-fracture of Le Fort I osteotomy, sympathetic nerve activity was predominant with propofol anesthesia, and parasympathetic nerve activity was predominant with remimazolam anesthesia.
Objectives : Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) is characterized by the manifestation of a variety of physical symptoms, but little is known about differences in autonomic nervous system activity according to symptom severity, especially within patient groups. In this study, we examined differences in heart rate variability (HRV) across symptom severity in a group of SSD patients to analyze a representative marker of autonomic nervous system changes by symptoms severity. Methods : Medical records were retrospectively reviewed for patients who were diagnosed with SSD based on DSM-5 from September 18, 2020 to October 29, 2021. We applied inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) methods to generate more homogeneous comparisons in HRV parameters by correcting for selection biases due to sociodemographic and clinical characteristic differences between groups. Results : There were statistically significant correlations between the somatic symptom severity and LF (nu), HF (nu), LF/HF, as well as SD1/SD2 and Alpha1/Alpha2. After IPTW estimation, the mild to moderate group was corrected to 27 (53.0%) and the severe group to 24 (47.0%), and homogeneity was achieved as the differences in demographic and clinical characteristics were not significant. The analysis of inverse probability weighted regression adjustment model showed that the severe group was associated with significantly lower RMSSD (β=-0.70, p=0.003) and pNN20 (β=-1.04, p=0.019) in the time domain and higher LF (nu) (β=0.29, p<0.001), lower HF (nu) (β=-0.29, p<0.001), higher LF/HF (β=1.41, p=0.001), and in the nonlinear domain, significant differences were tested for SampEn15 (β=-0.35, p=0.014), SD1/SD2 (β=-0.68, p<0.001), and Alpha1/Alpha2 (ß=0.43, p=0.001). Conclusions : These results suggest that differences in HRV parameters by SSD severity were showed in the time, frequency and nonlinear domains, specific parameters demonstrating significantly higher sympathetic nerve activity and reduced ability of the parasympathetic nervous system in SSD patients with severe symptoms.
Objectives : The purpose of this case-control research was to investigate the effects of acupuncture stimulation on autonomic nervous system for patients with HRV and to find out relationship with anti-stress effects. Methods : The study group consists of 24 patients with self-recognition of stress as the case group, and 20 normal person as the control group by similar age. We measured HRV of case and control groups before acupuncture stimulation, prick acupuncture in Hegu(LI4), Taichong(Liv3), Shenme(H7), Neiguan(P6), Zusanli(S36). After treating for 20 minutes, measurement values of HRV and PSV were compared for pre-acupuncture and post-acupuncture. Results : 1. LF norm, HF norm, LF/HF between the case and control groups were significant different in HRV before acupuncture stimulation in the 1st experiment. 2. HRT, SDNN, SDSD, LF norm, HF norm, and LF/HF of the case group were significant different in HRV after acupuncture stimulation in the 1st experiment. HRT of the case group was significantly different in HRV after acupuncture stimulation in the 1st experiment. 3. LF norm, HF norm, LF/HF of the case group were significant different between the 1st and 2nd experiment in HRV before acupuncture stimulation. 4. LF norm, HF norm, and LF/HF were significant different between the 1st and 2nd experiment in HRV of patients whose symptoms improved. But HRV of patients whose symptoms unimproved didn't show significant difference. Conclusion : The results suggest that acupuncture stimulation is associated with changed activity in the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Measurement values of HRV is suitable to estimate the activity of automatic nervous system.

This study was designed to investigate the effects of butanol (BuOH) fraction of pine (Pinus densiflora Sieb et Zucc) needle extract on membrane fluidity (MF), basal and induced oxygen radicals (BOR and IOR), lipid peroxide (LPO) and oxidized protein (OP) as an oxidative stress, and lipofuscin (LF) in liver membranes of Sprague-Dawley male rats. The rats were fed basic diets (control group) and experimental diets (BuOH-25, BuOH-50 and BuOH-100) prepared with 25, 50 and 100 mg added to basic diet for 45 days. MFs were significantly increased (about 16∼22%) in mitochondria of BuOH-50 and BuOH-100 groups compared with control group (p<0.01∼0.001) BOR and IOR formations in mitochondria were significantly decreased (11∼17% and 11∼28%, respectively) in these three BuOH groups (p<0.05∼0.001), while BOR and IOR formations in microsomes were significantly decreased (11∼24%) in BuOH-50 and BuOH-100 groups, and (15∼24%) in these three BuOH groups compared with control group (p<0.05∼0.001; p<0.01-0.001). LPO levels were significantly decreased (9% and 9∼13%, respectively) in mitochondria of BuOH-100 and microsomes of BuOH-50 and BuOH-100 groups (p<0.05∼0.01), whereas OP levels were significantly decreased (10∼12%) in mitochondria of BuOH-50 and BuOH-100 groups compared with control group (p<0.05). LF formations were significantly decreased (8∼9%) in BuOH-50 and BuOH-100 groups (p<0.05). These results suggest that butanol fraction of pine needle extract may playa effective role in an attenuating an oxidative stress and increasing a membrane fluidity.
