Establishment of Optimum Deposition Time in Electrophoretic Deposition

  • We used the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) process to fabricate a glass composite and investigated the EPD parameters to find the optimum deposition time by understanding the relationship among the process parameters of zeta potential (ZP), pH, deposition yield and saturation point. A binder and a dispersing agent were mixed properly with glass frit ($0.2{\sim}25{\mu}m$, d50=$8.77{\mu}m$) in an ethyl alcohol medium for the preparation of the slurry. The pH and ZP were in an inverse relationship to each other due to the generation of $H_3O^+$ ions with the addition of the dispersing agent in the slurry. The acidic nature of the dispersing agent was resulted in a decrease of the pH and an increase of the ZP. Otherwise, the pH increased with the addition of the glass frit in the slurry because $H_3O^+$ ions were absorbed on the glass frit. Therefore, the $OH^-$ ions correspondingly increased. The saturation point of EPD was strongly correlated with the variation of the pH in the slurry; this is caused by a chemical reaction between the ethyl alcohol and the ions that make up the glass frit. An adjustment of the pH variation and the saturation point in the slurry can be established with respect to the optimum deposition time in the slurry.

  • In order to offer the condition of plant survival, present the method to reduce pH of porous concrete. Water curing is the most suitable method for reducing pH. Water/cement ratio is lower pH in $25\%$ than $30\%$, and to reduce pH, the larger size of coarse aggregate is more proper in the same water/cement ratio, neutralization management after becoming solid than early.

Studies on the Leaching Test in Industrial Waste (폐기물 용출시험법에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to improve many problems of leaching test of industrial waste sludge analysis. We analyze sludges by variation of leachant, pH and leaching time.The results were as follows: 1. As leaching at pH 5.8 by our leaching test without control of pH during leaching, the leaching rates were very low as below 1%. 2. As leaching at pH 5.8 continuously by hydrochloric acid every 2 hour, the leaching rates were higher than before 1. 3. As leaching at pH 5.0 continuously by acetic acid every 2 hour, the leaching rates were higher than 1, 2. 4. The variations of leaching rate by leaching time were smaller increase after 10 hours than before. 5. It will be recommendable that the pH of leachant maintain constantly during leaching as level of acid rain, and the acetic acid is more effective than hydrochloric acid as leachant.

  • Dyeing properties of silk fabric with leaf Mustard was investigated the relation with pH variation, mordants, mordant method. K/S value shows the following sequence: pH 3>pH 5>pH 7>pH 9. K/S value shows high in post mordant conditions. Silk fabric shows the green, blue tone according to mordants(Al, Cu, Fe mordants). The tannic acid treatment silk fabric shows higher than the nontannic acid treatment silk fabric in K/S value. Lighting fastness of tannic acid treatment silk fabric shows better than that of nontannic acid treatment in Cu, Fe mordants. Water fastness of tannic acid treatment silk fabric was wholly improved. Tannic acid treatment improved dyeing properties of silk fabric with leaf Mustard.

  • A series of physical properties and rigid wall permeability tests were performed on two clays to investigate changes in permeability characteristics of clays with various pH values. Results of the study are as follows. As pH values were increased, coefficients of permeability of S-clay(clay fraction 18%) and J-clay(clay fraction 30%) were decreased in 3 and 4 times, respectively. Variation of coefficient of permeability of J-clay was considerably related to clay fraction. It can be said that coefficient of permeability of clays tested was increased, as pH values were decreased. This was because of increase in effective voids caused by decrease in thickness of diffused double layer, that is, change in soil structures and effective grain sizes.

  • 전기도금을 이용하여 $TiO_2$ 입자들을 니켈 도금층에 넣은 Ni-$TiO_2$ 복합체를 만들때 pH, 전류형태에 따른 열적안정성에 대한 영향을 평가하였다. pH 범위는 1, 2, 3.4 였으며, 전류형태는 직류, duty cycle 50%의 펄스를 사용하였다. pH가 낮으면 도금속도는 낮아졌으나 $TiO_2$의 부피분율은 증가하였고, 펄스를 이용하면 도금속도는 증가하였으나 $TiO_2$ 부피분율은 감소하였다. 경도는 pH가 낮으면 상온에서는 낮았으나 고온에서는 상대적으로 경도값이 높았다.

  • The MmSH is a process of injecting ABS to produce innovated physical properties compared to the conventional injection process. Physical properties such as thickness and adhesion strength of Ni plate electrolessly coated on a conventional and a MmSH injected ABS have been studied in the pH range 4~8. Thickness of the plate on the MmSH and the conventionally injected ABS appeared to be directly proportional to pH. The ABS processed by the conventional injection showed adhesion strength corresponded to ASTM 4B above pH 5. On the other hand, the ABS processed by the MmSH injection showed a superior adhesion strength corresponded to ASTM 5B above pH 6. It was calculated the shielding effectiveness of above 50 dB in all conditions.

  • This study was to investigate the extraction characteristics of extraction resins containing HEH/EHP for Gadolinium solution. The experiments were carried out with the variation of equilibrium pH and initial concentration of Gd. The optimum extraction time was 90 mins on Gd extraction using resin. The extraction ratio(%) was increased by increasing equilibrium pH from pH 1.0 to 2.0. The experimentally measured amounts of Gd on resins at equilibrium agreed well with those predicted using Freundlich's isotherm.

  • This study investigated variation of rainwater quality by seasonal and storage duration of rainwater in Changwon city. Seasonally, the pollutants concentration of rainwater were higher in spring and winter. In the case of rainwater and storage rainwater quality, pH of rainwater was 4.3, storage rainwaters were 6.0 and Turbidity increased about 8 times from 1.82 NTU to 14.61 NTU. The changes of storage water quality during the storage period, initial KMnO4 consumption rainwater was exceeded drinking water standard. Total solid in rainwater was detected as 116 mg/L, it tended to stable at around 70∼80mg/L after storage period for a 6day.

A Study on Variation of Colony Forming Units of Fungi by Input Ratios of Wood Chips in Aerobic Composting of Food Wastes (음식물류폐기물의 호기성 퇴비화에 있어서 목재세편의 투입비에 따른 곰팡이의 균락형성단위의 변화에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effects of input ratios of bulking material in aerobic composting of food wastes on variation of colony forming units(CFU) of fungi. Wood chips were used as a bulking material. Volume ratios of food wastes to wood chips in reactor of Control, WC-1 and WC-2 were 10/0, 10/5 and 10/10, respectively. Reactors were operated for 24 days with I hour stirring by 1rpm and 2 hours of the forced aeration rate of $80L/min{\cdot}m^3$ per day. WC-2 reached high temperature range faster than WC-1, and the maximum temperature of WC-2 was higher than that of WC-1. WC-2 reached high pH range faster than WC-1. and the maximum pH of WC-2 was higher than that of WC-1. WC-2 reached high Log(CFU/gram) range faster than WC-I, and the maximum Log(CFU/gram) of WC-2 was higher than that of WC-1. These all mean that the reaction velocity of composting of WC-2 was faster than that of WC-1. The profile of fungi changes in Log(CFU/gram) was similar to that of temperature changes (r=0.8861) not pH changes (r=0.1631).
