Sulfate 용액을 이용하여 전기도금 한 FCCL용 Cu 필름의 특성에 미치는 전류밀도와 pH의 영향 (Effect of Current Density and Solution pH on Properties of Electrodeposited Cu Thin Films from Sulfate Baths for FCCL Applications)

  • Nanocrystalline Cu thin films for FCCL were electrodeposited from sulfate baths to investigate systematically the influences of current density, solution pH on current efficiency, residual stress, surface morphology, and microstructure of thin Cu films. Current efficiencies were measured to be approximately 100%, irrespective of the applied current density and solution pH. But these influenced residual stress, surface morphology, XRD pattern, and grain size of electrodeposited Cu thin film. The residual stress decreased with decreasing the surface roughness, but increased with increasing the fcc(111) peak strength of XRD patterns.

Cadaverine is Transported into Vibrio vulnificus Through its CadB in Alkaline Environment

  • The exogenously added cadaverine is effective in protecting Vibrio vulnificus from methyl viologen (MV)-induced superoxide stress at pH 8.5. Such a protective effect by cadaverine was not observed at pH 7.5. Consistently, the accumulated level of intracellular cadaverine at pH 8.5 is approximately four times as much as that of the control cell at pH 7.5. Cadaverine accumulation is not affected by MV. The protection of V. vulnificus by cadaverine from superoxide stress was abolished when cadB coding for the lysine-cadaverine antiporter was interrupted. However, the cadaverine-mediated protection was complemented with cadB DNA. Therefore, CadB of V. vulnificus not only acts as a lysine-cadaverine antiporter at acid pH to neutralize the external medium, but also mediates cadaverine uptake at alkaline pH to result in cell protection from superoxide stress.

용접 비드 형상을 이용한 용접 시편의 피로수명 예측 연구 (A Study on the Fatigue Life Estimation Using Butt Weld Bead Profiles)

  • This study investigates the fatigue lift estimation of butt weld specimen for the railway vehicle by examining butt weld bead profiles. The butt weld beads, which are welded by semi-robot method, have non-uniform bead profiles described by $\theta$, p and h. The stress concentration factors, K$\_$t/, are changed by different $\theta$, p and h from 1.395 to 2.863. Hence, the sensitivity of K$\_$k/ is changed by each $\theta$, p and h. As $\theta$ becomes lower and p and h become higher, K$\_$t/ increases. The fatigue life can be estimated very closely for the AAY specimens without residual stress using only butt weld bead profiles. But, for the AAN specimens with residual stress, the fatigue life must be estimated by considering both the weld bead profiles and the residual stress data.

Peroxide Status in Tissues of Heat-Stressed Broilers

  • The peroxidation status of tissues was estimated in broilers under acute or chronic heat stress ($32^{\circ}C$, 24 h, $5{\times}24h$) in the present study. The results showed that the lipid peroxide (LPO) concentrations in plasma and liver were elevated (p<0.05) by acute heat stress, and were not influenced in kidney (p>0.05). At the same time, no significant change of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the liver, kidney or plasma was observed. Under chronic heat exposure, the SOD activity in liver was increased (p<0.05) and the LPO concentrations in the liver and plasma were restored to the normal levels. The LPO level in kidney was not affected by chronic heat stress (p>0.05), but SOD activity was significantly decreased (p<0.01). The results suggested that the peroxidation was induced by acute heat stress and disappeared along with the time of heat exposure, and the peroxidation reactions were different among tissues.

  • The internal stress of acidic electroless nickel deposits on zincated aluminum was determined by spiral contractometer. Several plating conditions such as inhibitor and complexing agent concentrations and pH affecting the internal stress were studied. The resulting intrinsic stress contribution to the total stress was discussed in terms of phosphorous content of the deposit, solution pH, and surface morphology. However, the most important was found to be thermal stress for the total stress of Al substrate, because of high thermal expansion coefficient of the aluminum substrate.

Autophagic Degradation of Caspase-8 Protects U87MG Cells Against H2O2-induced Oxidative Stress

  • Oxidative stress induces apoptosis in many cellular systems including glioblastoma cells, with caspase-8 activation was regarded as a major contribution to $H_2O_2$-induced cell death. This study focused on the role of the autophagic protein p62 in $H_2O_2$-induced apoptosis in U87MG cells. Oxidative stress was applied with $H_2O_2$, and cell apoptosis and viability were measured with use of caspase inhibitors or autophagic mediators or siRNA p62, GFP-p62 and GFP-p62-UBA (del) transfection. We found that $H_2O_2$-induced U87MG cell death was correlated with caspase-8. To understand the role of p62 in MG132-induced cell death, the levels of p62/SQSTM1 or autophagy in U87MG cells were modulated with biochemical or genetic methods. The results showed that the over-expression of wild type p62/SQSTM1 significantly reduced $H_2O_2$ induced cell death, but knockdown of p62 aggravated the process. In addition, inhibition of autophagy promoted p62 and active caspase-8 increasing $H_2O_2$-induced apoptosis while induction of autophagy manifested the opposite effect. We further demonstrated that the function of p62/SQSTM1 required its C-terminus UBA domain to attenuate $H_2O_2$ cytotoxity by inhibition of caspase-8 activity. Our results indicated that p62/SQSTM1 was a potential contributor to mediate caspase-8 activation by autophagy in oxidative stress process.

Heterologous Expression of a Putative $K^+/H^+$ Antiporter of S. coelicolor A3(2) Enhances $K^+$, Acidic-pH Shock Tolerances, and Geldanamycin Secretion

  • Heterologous expression of a putative $K^+/H^+$ antiporter of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) (designated as sha4) in E. coli and Streptomyces hygroscopicus JCM4427 showed enhanced tolerance to $K^+$ stress, acidic-pH shock, and/or geldanamycin production under $K^+$ stress. In a series of $K^+$ extrusion experiments with sha4-carrying E. coli deficient in the $K^+/H^+$ antiporter, a restoration of impaired $K^+$ extrusion activity was observed. Based on this, it was concluded that sha4 was a true $K^+/H^+$ antiporter. In different sets of experiments, the sha4-carrying E. coli showed significantly improved tolerances to $K^+$ stresses and acidic-pH shock, whereas sha4-carrying S. hygroscopicus showed an improvement in $K^+$ stress tolerance only. The sha4-carrying S. hygroscopicus showed much higher geldanamycin productivity than the control under $K^+$ stress condition. In another set of experiments with a production medium, the secretion of geldanamycin was also significantly enhanced by the expression of sha4.

생분해성 포장재질이 달걀의 물성에 미치는 영향 연구 (Influence of the Biodegradable Packaging Material on the Rheological Properties of Eggs)

  • 생분해성 포장재질에 대한 달걀의 기능성 변화를 알아보기 위해 달걀의 저장중 pH변화, 파손강도 및 응력완화현상을 측정하고 무포장 및 복합 필름에 포장한 달걀과 비교하였다. 생분해성 포장재질을 달걀에 사용한 경우 pH는 초기 8.39에서 최종 pH 9.3으로 최종 pH 9.48을 보인 무포장의 경우와 유사한 pH변화를 보이며, 파손강도의 변화에 있어서도 초기 14.25 N에서 생분해성 포장재질로 포장한 경우 6.76 N, 무포장의 경우 9.31 N의 변화를 보였다. 생분해성 포장재질이나 무포장에 비해 공기투과도가 상대적으로 무척 낮은 복합 필름 포장재를 사용한 경우는 저장이 진행됨에 따라 pH는 8.39에서 8.81로 적은 변화량을 보였으나 파손 강도값은 14.25 N에서 5.29 N으로 크게 감소하는 것으로 보아 달걀내부의 물성학적 기능이 크게 저하됨을 보여주었다. 내부조직변화를 감지할 수 있는 응력완화 현상을 측정하여 3-elements Maxwell model에 적용하고 구하여진 점탄성의 값을 비교시 무포장한 달걀과 생분해성 포장재를 사용한 경우에는 큰 차이가 없었으나 복합 필름 포장재의 경우에는 저장이 진행됨에 따라 그 기능이 현저하게 떨어짐을 보여주었으며 따라서, 달걀의 기능성 변화를 살펴볼 때 공기 및 수분투과도가 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 생분해성 포장재질의 많은 인장력 증가가 현 단계에서 요구되나 환경적인 문제를 고려할 때 기존의 달걀 포장재인 PE포장재의 대체품으로서 사용 가능성이 긍정적으로 여겨진다.

CVD 텅스텐의 응력 및 접합 누설전류 특성 (Stress and Junction Leakage Current Characteristics of CVD-Tungsten)

  • CVD 텅스텐의 응력 및 접합 누설전류 특성을 조사하였다. 응력-연속 어닐링온도 의 그래프는 냉각곡선의 응력이 가열곡선의 그것보다 더 높게 나타나는 이력현상을 보인다. SiH4 환원에 의하여 증착된 텅스텐 막이 수소환원에 의하여 증착된 막보다 전반적으로 내부 응력 뿐만 아니라 열 응력도 더 큰 것으로 나타났으며 전자가 후자에 비해 실리콘 기판과의 부착특성이 불량한 것도 이러한 응력차와 유관한 것으로 생각된다. SiH4 환원에 의하여 형 성된 텅스텐 막은 상온에서 인장 응력 상태에 있으며, 온도가 증가됨에 따라 응력이 감소하 다가 $700^{\circ}C$ 부근에서 압축 응력 상태로 바뀌고, 계속 더 온도가 증가됨에 따라 압축 응력 이 급격히 증가한다. SiH4 환원에 의한 텅스텐 막의 증착 온도가 증가함에 따라 n+/p 접합 의 누설전류가 크게 증가하며, 특히 $400^{\circ}C$로 온도가 증가함에 따라 누설전류의 증가폭이 크게 나타났는데, 이것은 수소환원 반응시와 유사하게 텅스텐의 침투(encroachment)에 의 한 실리콘 소모가 그 원인이다. SiH4/WF6 유속비의 증가에 따라서도 누설전류가 증가하는 데 그 효과는 미소한 것으로 나타났다.
