It was revealed that leaching of elements were partly inhibited because seawater contains plenty of dissolved ions than fresh water. On the other hands, the low activity coefficient and the formation of complex with chloride and sulfate play roles in enhancing element leachability. However, the pH buffaring capacity of seawater is the most important factor that makes the leaching of elements and its chemical behavior in the seawater system different from those in the fresh water environments. In general, the leaching from the weathered ash was smaller than that from the fresh ash. However, it was revealed that the leaching of Si, Fe, Al, Mn, phosphate, and some other elements were independent of ash weathering. They were dependant only on the pH of the solutions.
In this study, a electrochemical-chemical combined dissolution technology was conducted by electro-generated chlorine to obtain ruthenium solution from ruthenium metal. To find out the optimum leaching conditions of ruthenium in chloride solution, this leaching process was carried out on the variation of pH, reaction time, temperature and applied voltage at the electro-generated chlorine system in the reaction bath. Also, ozone generator was used to obtain ruthenium(III) chloride solution to increase the leaching rate. The optimum condition was observed at pH 10.0, $40^{\circ}C$ within 1 hr of reaction time that more than 88% of ruthenium(III) chloride dissolved.

Tanzania has abundant copper deposits, but copper-metal extraction remains low there, owing to the lack of suitable copper recovery processes and insufficient funds for developing mining technologies. Accordingly, leaching and solvent extraction methods for the extraction of copper from copper ore were studied with a particular emphasis on developing a simple processing method for small-scale copper mining. Chrysocolla ore was used as the copper-bearing mineral and sulfuric acid was used as the leaching reagent. A maximum copper recovery of 95.1% was obtained when the particles in the sample were smaller than $53{\mu}m$, the concentration of 98%(w/w) sulfuric acid in the leaching solution was 5.0 g/L and the stirring rate was between 60 and 80 rpm. The highest selectivity of $Cu^2+$ in the solvent extraction was obtained using 15% LIX-70 in kerosene. In the pH range from 0.5 to 3.0, the efficiency of $Cu^2+$ extraction increased with increasing pH. However, at pH values higher than 3.0, other metal ions were extracted into the organic phase more readily than $Cu^2+$. The highest solvent extraction rate obtained was 96.5% at pH values of 2.0 and 3.0 using 15% LIX-70.
A study has been made on the recovery & separation of cobalt and copper from organic acid leaching solution by solvent extraction. The experimental parameters such as the equilibrium pH, concentration of extractant and phase ratio were observed. Copper was extracted using LIX 84 and Cobalt was extracted using cyanex 272 and versatic acid 10. Experimental results showed that extraction percent of copper was 99% at above eq. pH 2.0 and then more than 90% of cobalt were extracted by cyanex 272 in eq. pH 6.0 and versatic acid 10 in eq. pH 7.5. Stripping of copper and cobalt from the loaded organic phases can be accomplished by sulfuric acid as a stripping reagent and 120 ~ 150 g/L of $H_2SO_4$ was effective for the stripping of copper and cobalt respectively. Finially, the basic optimal process for recovery of copper and cobalt from the bio-leaching solution was proposed.

The efflorescence mechanism of ceramic bodies with different sintering temperature was studied by quantitative analysis for the effect of various metal ions and anions. SEM and EDS characterization for efflorescence formed on the surface of the ceramic body showed that the main components of the efflorescence were Ca and S atoms. Leaching concentrations of various metal ions and anions for the ceramic bodies prepared by wet mixing with pH 7 and pH 10 were evaluated by ICP and IC analysis. The results of leaching test showed that the concentration of Ca ion at pH 7 body was eight times more than that of pH 10 body. Ca-rich efflorescence was not formed on the surface of ceramic body which prepared at pH 10 and sintered over $1100^{\circ}C$.
Korean territories has formed about 70% of mountainous areas that have acidified serious level to average pH 4-5. There are a number of abandoned metal mines about 1,000 in Korea. However, mine tailings and waste rock included heavy metals are exposed to long-term environment without prevention facility or treatment system. Thus, ongoing management and monitoring of soil environment are required. Most of abandoned mine scattered in forest areas of slopes. Soil erosion due to continuous rainfall in the slopy areas can cause the secondary pollution by the influence eutrophication of water system and the productivity loss of the plant. Therefore, this study would like to estimate pH leaching rate by artificial rainfall using waste neutralization-agent in lysimeter. Moreover, the potentially of secondary pollution related to precipitation is figured out through the experiments, and the optimal planting methods would examinate after neutralizing treatment in soil. Experiments composed three kinds of lysimeter; lysimeter 1 had filled only acidic soil, lysimeter 2 had neutralized soil, and lysimeter 3 had planting plants after neutralized soil. In the results, lysimeter 2 showed the lowest pH leaching, and there is not specific relativity with pH leaching of the seasonal characteristics.
This paper presents the engineering property of light weight soil made of soil mixed with recycled Styrofoam and stabilizer. Recycled Styrofoam is widely used for lightweight fill material because it has important geotechnical characteristics which are light, adiabatic, and effective for vibration interception. It is very easy to get the disposal styrofoam. For this study, dynamic compaction test, static compaction test and pH and leaching tests were performed. Based on the test results, it is concluded that the static compaction method is recommened to prevent from crushing materials and pH values of embankment materials are satisfied with these of domestic and RCRA configuration.

This study was carried out to leach valuable metal ions from the mine waste ore using the adapted indigenous bacteria. In order to tolerance the heavy metals, the indigenous bacteria were repeatedly subcultured in the adaptation-medium containing $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ for 3 weeks and 6 weeks, respectively. As the adaptation experiment processed, the pH was rapidly decrease in the adaptation-medium of 6 weeks more than the 3 weeks. The result of bioleaching with the adapted bacteria for 42 days, the pH value of leaching-medium in the 3 weeks tend to increased, whereas the pH of the 6 weeks decreased. In decreasing the pH value in the adaptation-medium and in the leaching-medium, it was identified that the indigenous bacteria were adapted $Cu^{2+}$ the ion and the mine waste ores. The contents of Cu, Fe and Zn in the leaching solution were usually higher leached in 6 weeks than 3 weeks due to the adaptation. Considering the bioleaching rates of Cu, Fe and Zn from these leaching solutions, the highest increasing the efficiency metal ion were found to be Fe. Accordingly, it is expected that the more valuable element ions can be leached out from the any mine waste, if the adapted bacteria with heavy metals will apply in future bioleaching experiments.

Recycling technologies would be required in consideration of increasing demand in lithium ion batteries (LIBs). In this study, the leaching behavior of Ni, Co and Mn is investigated with ammoniacal medium for spent cathode active materials, which are separated from a commercial LIB pack in hybrid electric vehicles. The leaching behavior of each metal is analyzed in the presence of reducing agent and pH buffering agent. The existence of reducing agent is necessary to increase the leaching efficiency of Ni and Co. The leaching of Mn is insignificant even with the existence of reducing agent in contrast to Ni and Co. The most conspicuous difference between acid and ammoniacal leaching would be the selective leaching behavior between Ni/Co and Mn. The ammoniacal leaching can reduce the cost of basic reagent that makes the pH of leachate higher for the precipitation of leached metals in the acid leaching.

The aim of this study was leaching valuable metal ions from mine waste rocks which were abandoned mine site using indigenous aerobic bacteria. In order to tolerate the the indigenous aerobic bacteria to the heavy metal ions they were repeatedly adapted in $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ environment. As the repeated generation-adaptation progressed, the pH values of the growth-medium were gradually decreased. During bio-leaching experiments with indigenous aerobic bacteria raised in a heavy metal ion environment for 42 days, the pH of the leaching solution was decreased while increasing the adaptation period. The indigeous bacteria were much more active on the surface of Younhwa waste rocks which contained relatively few the chalcopyrite and Cu content than the Goseong mine waste rocks, and also the amount of Cu and Fe ions were leached more in the Younhwa sample(leaching rate of 92.79% and 55.88%, respectively) than the Goseong sample(leaching rate of 66.77% and 21.83%, respectively). Accordingly, it is confirmed that valuable metal ions can be leached from the mine waste rocks, if any indigenous bacteria which inhabits a mine environment site for a long time with heavy metal ions can be used, and these bacteria can be progressively adapted in the growth-solutions containing the target heavy metals.
