Ultra-thin polymer films containing cobalt(II) meso-tetraphenylporphyrin(CoTPP) have been prepared by vacuum codeposition of the metal complex and trans-2-butene as an organic monomer using an inductively coupled RF glow discharge operating at 7-9 Watts. The polymer films were characterized by sorption measurements. Sorption data obtained for polymer films containing CoTPP indicate that the CoTPP molecules are capable of reversibly binding oxygen molecules. It was found that the adjacent CoTPP molecules in the aggregated metal complex phase could irreversibly share the oxygen molecules. A dispersion of the metal complex molecules in the polymer matrix was made to maintain the reversible reactivity of the metal complex molecules with oxygen in the polymer films via vacuum evaporation process. The Henry mode solubility constant, the Langmuir mode capacity constant, the amount of binding oxygen, and the dissociation equilibrium in the dual mode sorption theory were discussed.
Zinc oxide as an optoelectronic device material was studied to utilize its wide band gap of 3.37 eV and high exciton biding energy of 60 meV. Using anti-site nitrogen to generate p-type zinc oxide has shown a deep acceptor level and low solubility. To increase the nitrogen solubility in zinc oxide, group 13 elements (aluminum, gallium, and indium) was co-added to nitrogen. The effect of aluminum on nitrogen solubility in a $3{\times}3{\times}2$ zinc oxide super cell containing 72 atoms was investigated using density functional theory with hybrid functionals of Heyd, Scuseria, and Ernzerhof (HSE). Aluminum and nitrogen were substituted for zinc and oxygen sites in the super cell, respectively. The band gap of the undoped super cell was calculated to be 3.36 eV from the density of states, and was in good agreement with the experimentally obtained value. Formation energies of a nitrogen molecule and nitric oxide in the zinc oxide super cell in zinc-rich conditions were lower than those in oxygen-rich conditions. When the number of nitrogen molecules near the aluminum increased from one to four in the super cell, their formation energies decreased to approach the valence band maximum to some degree. However, the acceptor level of nitrogen in zinc oxide with the co-incorporation of aluminum was still deep.
Recently, developments of large scale and high density cell culture methods have been the objects of many researches, because the demand of various pharmaceutical products produced by animal cell culture has been rapidly increasing. The cell culture equipment should have the requirements such as sufficient oxygen transfer and mixing, low shear stress and surface tension, and small foaming. In order to develop a proper bioreactor meeting these requirements simultaneously, a perfluorocarbon having high solubility of oxygen was sprayed into the medium as an oxygen carrier instead of air. Also, a new impeller was developed and combined together with the perfluorocarbon spraying system so as to design a new bioreartor for cell cultivation. The new impeller had better characteristics of mixing and oxygen transfer than the paddle and cell-lift impellers based on the same, shear rate. But, it was observed that the volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient of the new bioreactor decreased with increasing cell density during E. coli fermentation.
Phase formation and oxygen ion conduction of La(Ba)Ga(Mg)O3-$\delta$ system was studied, BaLaGa3O7 and BaLaGaO4 formed as a secondary phase above the solubility limit of Ba2+ in La3+ sites. The oxygen ionic conductivity of La(Ba)Ga(Mg)O3-$\delta$ was 0.1 S/cm 80$0^{\circ}C$ The activation energy of the oxygen ion conduction was dependent on temperature. This value was higher at low temperature than at high temperature.
The electrical conductivity of SrTiO3 thick films, which has been prepared by screen printing and sintering on polycrystalline Al2O3 substrates, was determined as a function of oxygen partial pressure and temperature. The data showed that electrical conductivity was proportional to the -1/4th power of the oxygen partial pressure for the oxygen partial pressure range from 10-4-10-8 to 10-20 atm and proportional to Po2+1/4 for the oxygen partial pressure range from 10-6-10-4 to 1atm. And then n-p transition region of electrical conductivity moved to lower oxygen partial pressure region as the sintering temperature of thick film specimens increased under about 140$0^{\circ}C$. These data were consistent with the presence of small amounts of acceptor impurities in SrTiO3 thick film which have been diffused from Al2O3 substrate in the range of solid solubility limit.
Previous experiment was performed under abiotic condition. Steady-state abiotic experiments in the sand-tank reactor with air flowing through the reactor headspace demonstrated that oxygen supply through the water table interface into the saturated zone was enhanced when an LNAPL (dodecane) pool was present at the water table. Biotic condition was considered in this study. Biotic experiments performed after inoculating the reactor with Pseudomonas putida mt-2, which does not grow on dodecane, indicated that the enhanced oxygen supply in the presence of the LNAPL pool also enhanced biodegradation of a solute (glucose) plume passing beneath the LNAPL pool at steady-state.
The solubility and stability of quercetin in various vehicles were determined. The solubility of quercetin at $28^{\circ}C$ increased in the rank order of isopropyl myristate < oleyl alcohol < propylene glycol monolaurate < oleoyl macrogol6 glycerides < linoleoyl macrogol-6 glycerides < propylene glycol laurate (PGL) < propylene glycol monocaprylate (PGMC) < polyethylene glycol-8 glyceryl linoleate < caprylocaproyl macrogol-6 glycerides < diethylene glycol mono ethyl ether (DGME). The addition of DGME to non-aqueous vehicles such as PGL ad PGMC markedly increased the solubility of quercetin. From the stability studies, it was found that quercetin was unstable due to rapid oxidation by dissoved oxygen. The addition of a combination of ascorbic acid and edetic acid (EDTA) at 0.1 % markedly decreased the degradation rates of quercetin in 40% polyethylene glycol 400 in saline. Quercetin was relatively unstable in non-aqueous vehicles such as PGL and PGMC alone, and PGL-PGMC co-solvent The degradation of quercetin in such non-aqueous vehicles was fast, depending on temperature. The addition of butylated, hydroxytoluene, butylated hydroxyanisole, citric acid and/or EDTA at 0.1 % was effective in retarding the degradation of quercetin.

Immobilization technique by PVA encapsulation is an effective alternative for wastewater treatment. However little information is available about the effect of PVA characteristics on physical properties as an encapsulation media. This study aims at investigating the effect of the preparation methods of PVA and filler addition to media on the solubility of PVA. The solubility decreased as the freezing temperature decreased and the vacuum-drying was applied. Addition of the PAC (Powered Activated Carbon) and organoclay decreased the solubility of the PVA gels. Organoclay was more effective for lowering the solubility about 25% than the PAC. Nitrification with the PVA-coating media was less sufficient than with the polyurethane media due to the mass transfer restriction for oxygen and nutrients.

Cr-O-N coatings having different oxygen contents were deposited on Si wafer and SUS 304 substrates by an arc ion plating technique using Cr target in $Ar/O_2/N_2$ gaseous atmosphere. As increasing oxygen content in the coating, the microstructure of Cr-O-N coating changed from polycrystalline having NaCl structure to amorphous structure. Further increase of oxygen content resulted in phase transformation from amorphous to rhombohedral structure. From the variations of d value and average grain size, it was revealed that the maximum solubility of oxygen in Cr-O-N coating was about 21 at.%. And the maximum micro-hardness of 2751HK was obtained in this composition. The lowest friction coefficient was measured in the coating having 34.8 at.% of oxygen. However, more narrow width of wear track was found in the coating having 30.1 at.% of oxygen.

Leaking underground storage tanks are a major source of groundwater contamination by petroleum hydrocarbons. Aerobic bioremediation has been highly effective in the remediation of many fuel releases. However, Bioremediation of aromatic hydrocarbons in groundwater and sediments is ofen limited by the inability to provide sufficient oxygen to the contaminated zones due to the low water solubility of oxygen. Nitrate can also serve as an electron acceptor and results in anaerobic biodegradation of organic compounds via the processes of nitrate reduction and denitrification. Because nitrate is less expensive and more soluble than oxygen. it may be more economical to restore fuel-contaminated aquifers using nitrate rather than oxygen. And denitrifying bacteria are commonly found in the subsurface and in association with contaminated aquifer materials. These studies have shown that BTEX and MTBE can be degraded by the nitrate-amended microcosms under aerobic and anaerobic conditons. Biodegradation of the toluene and ethylbenzne compounds occurred very quickly under denitrifying conditions. MTBE, benzene and p-xylene were recalcitrant under denitrifying conditions in this study, But finally Biodegradaton was observed for all of the test compounds.
