EFFECTS OF SPLIT INJECTION AND OXYGEN-ENRICHED AIR ON SOOT EMISSIONS IN A DIESEL ENGINE

  • Effects of split injection and oxygen-enriched air on soot emissions in a DI diesel engine were studied by the KIVA-3V code. When split injection is applied, the second injection of fuel into a cylinder results in two separate stoichiometric zones which increases soot oxidation. As a result, soot emissions are decreased with split injection. When oxygen-enriched air is applied together with split injection, higher concentration of oxygen helps secondary combustion which results in a higher temperature in the cylinder. The increased temperature promotes growth reaction of acetylene with soot but doesn't improve the acetylene formation during the second injection of fuel. As more acetylene is consumed in the growth reaction of acetylene, the net acetylene mass in the cylinder is decreased, which leads to a decrease of soot formation. With an increase of soot oxidation caused by split injection, the soot emissions are decreased significantly. However, to avoid excessive NOx emissions with increased oxygen concentration, the level of oxygen concentration should be lower than 22% in volume.

  • 헬륨분사를 통한 극저온 추진제의 과냉각 방식은 발사체의 이륙 전에 액체산소의 bulk boiling을 억제하고 과냉각 상태를 유지하기 위한 효과적인 방법들 중의 하나이다. 본 자료에서는 이러한 헬륨 분사 냉각 시스템에 대한 이론적 고찰을 통해 열전달과 질량전달 조건을 이해하고, 해석 모델을 제시하였다. 해석 모델의 주요 특징은 유한 열전달과 무한질량전달 개념을 이용하여 분사 시스템을 표현한 것이다. 또한, 실험과 해석결과의 비교를 통하여 해석 모델을 검증하였으며, 헬륨 분사량의 변화, 탱크 압력의 변화 등 조건 변화에 따른 결과를 살펴보았다.

  • In this paper, in these case of photoelectrode using UV treatment after oxygen solar conversion efficiency is increased. According to oxygen injection UV treatment will removal residual organics and increase the TiO2 surface area but also UV treatment can affect the same chemical action of ozone treatment. More porous networks and larger porosities were obtained in the TiO2 films prepared UV treatment after oxygen injection.

  • 액체추진기관을 사용하는 발사체의 극저온 추진제 온도 conditioning 방안의 일환으로 헬륨분사에 의한 액체산소 과냉각 시험을 수행하였다. 동일한 질량의 액체산소에 대하여 서로 다른 유량의 헬륨을 분사하고 냉각 특성을 비교하였다. 시험조건 하에서 약 $5\sim6^{\circ}C$의 냉각 효과를 얻을 수 있었으며 외부 단열상태에서 특정 온도까지 냉각되는 시간은 헬륨 분사량에 반비례함을 알 수 있었다.

  • The oxygen fuel MILD (Moderate or Intense Low-oxygen Dilution) combustion has been considered as one of the promising combustion technology for flame stability, high thermal efficiency, low emissions and improved productivity. In this paper, the effect of oxygen and fuel injection condition on formation of MILD combustion was analyzed using lab scale oxygen fuel MILD combustion furnace. The results show that the flame mode was changed from a diffusion flame mode to a split flame mode via a MILD combustion flame mode with increasing the oxygen flow rate. A high degree of temperature uniformity was achieved using optimized combination of fuel and oxygen injection configuration without the need for external oxygen preheating. In particular, the MILD combustion flame was found to be very stable and constant flame temperature region at 7 KW heating rate and oxygen flow rate 75-80 l/min.

  • Mechanical properties of metal injection molded titanium and titanium alloy parts were investigated in this study. Material powders with low oxygen content and spherical shape were obtained by electrode induction-melting gas atomization which could melt and atomize titanium and titanium alloy bars with no touch on crucible or tundish. Tensile specimens were fabricated from obtained powders by metal injection molding process. Tensile strength of the specimens increases with increasing oxygen content. This result corresponds to a tendency of wrought metal.

  • Wistar albino rats were injected subcutaneously with mercuric chloride (5 mg/kg) to define the early biochemical determinants that participate in the pathogenesis of mercuric chloride-induced hepatotoxicity, especially focusing on oxygen free radicals, we studied malondialdehyde(MDA) level and the activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase in the liver of rats at 24, 48 and 72 hr after the injection of mercuric chloride. MDA levels at 24, 48 and 72 hr after the injection of mercuric chloride increased as compared with that of control group. The activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase at 24, 48 and 72hr after the injection of mercuric chloride decreased as compared with that of control group. These results suggest that the depression of the activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase resulting from excessive oxygen free radicals is an important determinant in pathogenesis of mercuric chloride-induced hepatotoxicity.

The Effects of Oxygen Plasma and Cross-link Process on Quantum-dot Light Emitting Diodes

  • Red color light emitting diodes (LEDs) were fabricated using CdSe/CdZnS quantum dots (QDs). During the device fabrication process, oxygen plasma treatment on the ITO surface was performed to improve the interfacial contact between ITO anode and the hole injection layer. CdSe/CdZnS quantum dots were cross-linked to remove their surrounded organic surfactants. The device shows red emission at 622 nm, which is consistent with the dimension of the QDs (band gap=1.99 eV). The luminance shows 6026% improvement compared with that of LEDs fabricated without oxygen plasma treatment and quantum dots cross-linking process. This approach would be useful for the fabrication of high-performance QLEDs with ITO electrode and PEDOT:PSS hole injection layers.

Minimizing tissue damage due to filler injection with systemic hyperbaric oxygen therapy

  • Recently, there is a growing interest of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in many fields of medicine. We had a 43-year-old female patient presented with severe necrosis of the nose, philtrum, and upper lip due to retrograde arterial occlusion after nasolabial fold hyaluronic acid filler injection. Our patient went through 43 sessions of systemic hyperbaric oxygen therapy from December 2, 2017 to January 18, 2018. We administered 2.8 atmosphere absolute (ATA) for 135 minutes in the first session and the remaining sessions consisted of 2.0 ATA for 110 minutes. In reporting this case, we wish to provide a warning regarding the latent risk of filler injections and share our experience about minimizing soft tissue damage in the early stages with systemic hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

  • Oxygen-enriched non-premixed flame characteristics was investigated numerically with variation of dilution methods, which are Flue gas recirculation(FGR) and fuel injection recirculation(FIR). In order to compare flamelets in various oxygen-enrichment conditions reasonably, the adiabatic flame temperature and Damkoller number was held fixed by modulating amount of diluents to fuel and oxidizer stream and by varying global strain rate of flame respectively. Also modified GRI 3.0 reaction mechanism was utilized, which was able to predict oxygen-enriched methane flame correctly. Fundamental flame characteristics such as structure, heat release rate and extinction with FGR and FIR were compared in various oxygen enrichment conditions.
