Performances of non-dissipative structure-dependent integration methods

  • Three structure-dependent integration methods with no numerical dissipation have been successfully developed for time integration. Although these three integration methods generally have the same numerical properties, such as unconditional stability, second-order accuracy, explicit formulation, no overshoot and no numerical damping, there still exist some different numerical properties. It is found that TLM can only have unconditional stability for linear elastic and stiffness softening systems for zero viscous damping while for nonzero viscous damping it only has unconditional stability for linear elastic systems. Whereas, both CEM and CRM can have unconditional stability for linear elastic and stiffness softening systems for both zero and nonzero viscous damping. However, the most significantly different property among the three integration methods is a weak instability. In fact, both CRM and TLM have a weak instability, which will lead to an adverse overshoot or even a numerical instability in the high frequency responses to nonzero initial conditions. Whereas, CEM possesses no such an adverse weak instability. As a result, the performance of CEM is much better than for CRM and TLM. Notice that a weak instability property of CRM and TLM might severely limit its practical applications.

  • In this paper, the magnitude of undershoot and overshoot in a prototype second order system with one positive real zero is computed by the analytic methods. Also, it will be shown that the peak times of the undershoot and overshoot can be calculated using the impulse and step response of the second order system. Three different cases are investigated: underdamped(p<ζ<1), critically damped(ζ=1) and overdamped(ζ>1) cases. We deal with the undamped(ζ=0) case as a special case of the underdamped. And a compensation method is proposed to reduce undershoots of the nonmininmun phase system using feedforward compensator.

Investigation of Rise Time and Overshoot in Pulse Transformers with Different Topologies for Electromagnetic Trigger of SCRs

  • This study investigates the influences of different core parameters on the dynamic performances, such as rise time and overshoot, in pulse transformers for the triggering circuit of SCRs. First, a simplified transformer equivalent circuit, which emerges from a standard transformer equivalent circuit, is developed to analyze the step response. Second, the relations between the dynamic performances and the parasitic parameters are calculated by the simplified equivalent circuit. Third, the variations of rise time and overshoot, which are vital to the stability of triggering SCRs, with different core parameters, such as mechanic dimensions and topologies, are comprehensively investigated by analyzing the parasitic parameters. Finally, prototype transformers are fabricated to experimentally validate the analysis. The presented method can practically instruct the design of a pulse transformer for triggering SCRs.

  • This paper presents a new parameter tuning method for PID controller. The Ziegler-Nichols Parameter tuning has been widely known as a fairly heuristic method to good determine setting of PID controllers, for a wide range of common industrial processes It has a excessive overshoot in the set point response, set point weighting can reduced the overshoot to specified values. It will also be shown that set point weighting is superior to the conventional solution of reducing large overshoot by other method. In this paper, we will modified the Ziegler-Nichols tuning formula by fuzzy set. These method will give appreciable improvement in the performance of PID controllers.

  • 본 논문에서는 PID제어기의 적분항이 정상상태오차를 없애는 장점은 그대로 유지하되 과도응답에서 오차가 누적되어 응답을 나쁘게 하는 구조적인 단점은 개선하는 PID 제어 방식을 제안하였다. 제안한 방식은 변형된 적분 파라미터를 가진 PID제어 방식으로 오차가 커지는 구간에서는 오차를 누적하고 오차가 작아지는 구간에서는 누적을 하지 않음으로써 기존의 일반적인 PID 제어기에 대해 오버슈트(overshoot)를 감소시키고, 정착시간(settling time)을 빠르게 하여 성능을 개선한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 기존 LDO regulator에서 많이 사용 되는 피드백 저항을 Pseudo resistor를 이용하여 동작하기 위한 LDO regulator를 제안한다. 제안 된 Pesudo resistor를 사용한 Feedback network는 기존 피드백 저항보다 면적이 작으면서도 기존 LDO regulator의 역할을 하며, 노이즈를 갖는 LDO regulator의 단점을 보완하고자 제안되었다. 기존 LDO regulator와 비교하여 비슷한 성능을 가짐에도 불구하고, Overshoot를 감소시키고 면적을 줄여 더 높은 효율을 제공할 수 있다. 설계한 회로는 동부 하이텍의 0.18um CMOS 공정을 이용하였다.

스테인리스강 수세미 전극을 사용한 미생물연료전지의 전력 오버슈트 예방과 환원조 유속 증가에 의한 환원전극 과전압 감소 (Prevention of Power Overshoot and Reduction of Cathodic Overpotential by Increasing Cathode Flow Rate in Microbial Fuel Cells used Stainless Steel Scrubber Electrode)

  • 촉매 코팅하지 않은 탄소전극(graphite felt)을 이용한 미생물연료전지에서 전력 오버슈트 현상이 발생하였으며 환원전위의 손실이 대부분의 전압 감소 원인으로 파악되었다. 이를 해결하고자 백금-탄소 촉매 코팅한 탄소전극과 싸고 고전도성을 지닌 스테인리스강 수세미 전극을 사용하여 전력 오버슈트 현상 극복과 전압손실에 대한 분석을 하였다. 백금-탄소 촉매 코팅한 탄소전극을 환원전극으로 이용한 미생물연료전지에서는 여전히 전력오버슈트가 발생하였지만 스테인리스강 수세미 전극에서는 낮은 환원용액 공급유속에서도 전력 오버슈트가 발생하지 않았으며 29% 가량의 증가된 최대전력밀도 값($23.9A/m^3$)을 얻을 수 있었다. 탄소전극을 사용한 미생물연료전지의 전력 오버슈트는 환원용액의 유입유속을 증가시킴에 따라 해결할 수 있었다. 또한 탄소전극과 스테인리스강 수세미 전극을 이용한 미생물연료전지 모두 유속 증가에 따라 최대전력밀도 값과 최대전류밀도 값이 2-3.5배 가량 증가하였다. 유입유속 증가에 따른 전압손실을 분석한 결과 활성도 손실, 저항 손실, 물질전달 손실 모든 구간에서 미생물연료전지의 환원전위 손실이 감소하였다. 이에 따라 스테인리스강 수세미는 경제성 있고 전력오버슈트 현상을 예방하는 미생물연료전지의 환원전극으로써 좋은 재료이며 만약 환원전극 문제로 인해 전력 오버슈트 현상이 발생한다면 환원조 내부 유동을 증가시키는 것이 이를 해결할 수 있는 좋은 방법이라 판단된다.

  • Several algorithm applied to single axis feed system with linear motor has been extensively reviewed in order to check the possible applicability to two axis system Among several factors considered, overshoot of the response was the most important one in minimizing position tracking error.   • In high-speed gas-levitation applications a high compressibility number may bring a numerical difficulty in predicting generated pressure profiles accurately as it causes erroneous sudden pressure overshoot and oscillation in the trailing-edge. To treat the problem, in this study an exact exponential high-order shape function is introduced in the FE lubrication analyses. It is shown by various example applications that the high-order shape function scheme can successfully subdue undesired pressure overshoot and oscillation.

  • Linear motor food system control algorithm was extended to the two axis system. Among several factors considered, overshoot of the response was the most important one in minimizing position tracking error. Balance between overshoot and settling time has to be adjusted to guarantee to best tracking performance. Tracking route was carefully executed to eliminate the possible error during the machining process. Even though there exists slight discrepancy between desired mute and cutting track at the corner, precision machining could be implemented using the cutting scheme introduced.
