Porcelain insulators are widely used in overhead high-voltage power transmission lines while providing adequate insulation to withstand switching and lightning over voltages. For the safety consideration, we proposed a novel insulator inspection method using harmonic, which is retrieved from the low frequency signal. The working principle of this new method is based on the relationship between the low frequency harmonic and the defective characteristic of the insulators. So, in this paper, the harmonic retrieval in the complex noise is solved with the HOC (High Order Cumulants) is extended. In the experiment, as one of our dedicated contribution, we illustrate low frequency harmonic and the defective characteristics of the porcelain insulators.
The increased use of underground power distribution as opposed to overhead lines contributes to the aesthetics of the downtown areas. But there is an inherent risk of accidental electrocution should there be damage to the insulation of the cable because of heavy rain. Should a pedestrian make contact with this cable indirectly, via a man hole cover, electrocution could result. In this paper, we analyse electrical shock accident and checking results in this low-voltage handhole.
When the jacket damaged conductors in 22.9kV-y overhead distribution lines are contacted with the metal material by strong wind, which, leads to are melting as well as faults accordance. The duration of the arc temperature due to flame effected by weather and flash over conditions. In order to simulated the worst conditions, the ACSR-OC($58mm^2$) used as specimen was artificially cut in no wind. After contacting the two cut conductors again the testing current was applied. thus, the changes in temperature of are flame was analyzed.

The objectives of this study were to analyze and compare 24 hrs personal exposure levels of MF at microenvironments such as home, school, educational institute, internet pc game room, transportation, and other places according to time activity patterns using various metrics for children attending the primary schools located near and away from the power lines, and to characterize the major microenvironments and impact factors attributed personal exposure level. The study was carried out for 44 children attending a primary school away from the lines(school A) and 125 children attending a school away from 154 kV power lines(school B), all who aged 12 years and were 6 grade, from July 2003 to December 2003. All participants filled in a questionnaire about characteristics, residence, use of electrical appliances and others. Children wore a small satchel in which EMDEX II and Lite (Enertech, Co. Ltd) and a diary of activity list for period of registration in 20 minutes blocks. All statistical calculations were made with the SAS System, Releas 6.12. The summary of results was presented below. First, about the characteristics of subjects, there no differences between two groups. The subject almost spent about 56 % of their time at home and about 20~25 % of their time at school. Fifty percent of children spent 2 hours at private educational institutes. Second, the personal exposure measurements of children in school B was statistically higher than those of children in school A by various metrics such as arithmetic mean, geometric mean, percentile(5, 25, 50, 75, 95), maximum, rate of change metric, constant field metric. The arithmetic and geometric mean magnetic fields during the time the children were at school B were 0.98 and $0.86{\mu}T$ and were about 23 times higher than those of children were at school A. In conclusion, the significant major determinants of personal exposure level is the distance from the power line to microenvironments.

Pollution flashover of outdoor insulators is a common risk, which affects the safe operation of overhead transmission networks. Early electrical power systems, which feature insulators made from ceramic materials have been used all over the world with good performance. At present, non-ceramic insulators are in common use, as a result of their good electrical as well as mechanical properties. The aim of this paper is to discuss and compare the flashover performance of insulators typically used in power lines, such as, porcelain, ethylene-propylene-diene-monomer (EPDM) rubber, room temperature vulcanized (RTV) and high temperature vulcanized (HTV) coated silicone rubber. The effect of various parameters, including the severity of pollution, ice accumulation, and shade profile, are considered.. From the studies reviewed it was concluded that there is a distinct difference in the flashover voltages of different types of insulators, and the silicone provides the best flashover performance of all insulating materials.
This paper presents an accurate method for measuring the ground resistance in powered grounding system. Most of substations and electric power equipments are interconnected to an extensive grounding network of overhead ground wires, neutral conductors of transmission lines, cable shields, and etc. The parasitic effects due to circulating ground currents and ground potential rise make a significant error in measuring the ground resistance. The test current transition method was proposed to reduce the effects of stray ground currents, ground potential rise and harmonic components in measurements of the ground resistance for powered grounding systems. The instrumental error of the test current transition method is decreased as the ratio of the test current signal to noise(S/N) increases. It was found from the test results that the proposed measuring method of the ground resistance is more accurate than the conventional fall-of-potential method or low-pass filter method, and the measuring error was less than 3[%]when S/N is 10.
Electric power transmission utilities make an effort to maximize profit by reducing their electricity supply and operation costs while maintaining their reliability. The development of maintenance strategies for aged components is one of the more effective ways to achieve this goal. The reliability centered approach is a key method in providing optimal maintenance strategies. It considers the tradeoffs between the upfront maintenance costs and the potential costs incurred by reliability losses. This paper discusses the application of the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique used to find the optimal maintenance strategy for a transmission component in order to achieve the minimum total expected cost composed of Generation Cost (GC), Maintenance Cost (MC), Repair Cost (RC) and Outage Cost (OC). Three components of a transmission system are considered: overhead lines, underground cables and insulators are considered. In regards to aged and aging component, a component state model that uses a modified Markov chain is proposed. A simulation has been performed on an IEEE 9-bus system. The results from this simulation are quite encouraging, and then the proposed approach will be useful in practical maintenance scheduling.

Power system fault analysis is commonly based on well-known symmetrical component method, which describes power system elements by positive, negative and zero sequence impedance. In case of balanced fault, such as three phase short circuit, transmission line can be represented by positive sequence impedance only. The majority of fault in transmission lines, however, is unbalanced fault, such as line-to-ground faults, so that both positive and zero sequence impedance is required for fault analysis. When unbalanced fault occurs, zero sequence current flows through earth and skywires in overhead transmission systems and through cable sheaths and earth in cable transmission systems. Since zero sequence current distribution between cable sheath and earth is dependent on both sheath bondings and grounding configurations, care must be taken to calculate zero sequence impedance of underground cable transmission lines. In this paper, conventional and EMTP-based sequence impedance calculation methods were described and applied to 345kV cable transmission systems (4 circuit, OF 2000mm2). Calculation results showed that detailed circuit analysis is desirable to avoid possible errors of sequence impedance calculation resulted from various configuration of cable sheath bonding and grounding in underground cable transmission systems.
