  • This study examined the organizational status of female employees in three major over-the-air broadcasting companies in South Korea in terms of both formal and informal organizational structures. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were conducted for the data collected through the official statistical documents on Korean broadcasting industries, in-person/telephone interviews, and survey. The results show that the proportion of female employees in the three major over-the-air broadcasting companies remained relatively unchanged at about as low as 10 per cents during the past 10 years, Furthermore, most of them are positioned in the lower hierarchical positions. The informal organizational status of female employees in terms of informal organizational culture, informal network, and mentoring, also reveals inequal conditions in many respects. Concerning role assignments, no significant evidence of sexual discrimination was found. Discrimination against women in assigning core roles such as political and economic news reporting and drama producing, however, was still prevailing. Currently, a marked increase of female proportion is observed among newly hired reporters, producers, and announcers. In the long term, these trends can bring positive changes in the status of female employees in the broadcasting industry organization.

  • As around the world, ground and underground transportation capacity is reaching its limit, centering on urban areas. As urban traffic becomes congested, time and cost are astronomical, and environmental destruction caused by urban pollution is becoming increasingly serious. As a way to solve this problem, the means of flying over the air are in the spotlight as the next generation of future transportation, and the concept of urban air mobility (UAM, Urban Air Mobility) is defined as systematic planning. The development of an electric-powered vertical take-off (eVTOL) aircraft that obtains electric power through a battery using a personal aerial vehicle (PAV) as a means of transportation has accelerated. As the aircraft development of new technology aircraft in the evtol method is actively carried out, the need to prepare systems such as aircraft certification standards, pilot qualification systems, and qualification management is emerging. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which lead international standards, announced new special technical conditions and temporary regulations SCVTOL-01, respectively. However, the pilot qualification system for operating the uam aircraft has not yet been clearly announced. Therefore, this paper analyzes the recently announced FAA regulations and EASA regulations to identify differences and directions in perspectives on UAMs and study the existing vertical take-off and landing aircraft (VTOL) pilot qualification system to present directions for qualification classification.

  • It is well observed in the satellite telecommunication policy of several States that legal constraints imposed upon the service coverage of satellite telecommunication as well as broadcasting are to be relaxed in a progressive way. Major aspects of such policy change lie in the adoption of policy refusing traditional concept of national frontier. In the case of direct broadcasting satellite service, while a debate upon the legal issues regarding the spill-over effect of that service is no more major concern of the States, many multinational enterprises are looking for strategic alliance for regional or global DBS project. On the other hand, an implementation plan for connecting the world through global mobile personal communication satellite system is being pursued by several joint effort of multinational firms. Legal issues arise regarding the regulatory competence of each State, Especially, a controversial issue is concerning the sovereign right well recognized upon the regulation of telecommunication. This study is focusing upon the evolution of such policy change for the purpose of allowing us to expect future develpment of worldwide satellite telecommunication policy environment.

  • Increasing air pollution levels and the global oil crisis has become a major hindrance in the growth of our automobile sector. Traditional Internal Combustion engines running on non-renewable fuels are proving to be the major culprit for the harmful effects on environment. With few modifications and also with assistance of few additional components current small SI engines can be modified into a pneumatic engine (commonly known as Compressed Air Engines) without much technical complications where the working fluid is compressed air. The working principle is very basic as adiabatic expansion of the compressed air takes place inside the cylinder pushing the piston downwards creating enough MEP to run the crank shaft at decent RPM. With the assistance of new research and development on pneumatic engines can explore the potential of pneumatic engines as a viable option over IC engines. The paper deals with analysis on RPM variation with corresponding compressed air injection at different crank angles from TDC keeping constant injection time period. Similarly RPM variation can also be observed at different injection pressures with similar injection angle variation. A setup employing a combination of magnetic switch (reed switch), magnets and solenoid valve is used in order to injection timing control. A conclusive data is obtained after detailed analysis of RPM variation that can be employed in newly modified pneumatic engines in order to enhance the running performance. With a number of benefits offered by pneumatic engine over IC engines such as no emissions, better efficiency, low running cost, light weight accompanied by optimized injection conditions can cause a significant development in pneumatic engines without any major alteration.

  • This paper theoretically and empirically explores the reliability gain that can be obtained by installing multiple antennas in on-vehicle broadcasting receivers. Analytical derivations reveal that maximal-ratio-combining-based diversity allows a multi-antenna receiver (MR) to achieve significantly better coverage probability than a single-antenna receiver (SR). In particular, the notable MR gains for low-power reception and high-throughput services are highlighted. We also discuss various aspects of mobile MRs, including geometric coverage, volume of the users served, and impact of receiver velocity. To examine the feasibility of MRs in the real world, extensive field experiments were conducted, particularly with on-air ATSC 3.0 broadcast transmissions. Relying on the celebrated erroneous second ratio criterion, MRs with two and four antennas were verified to achieve notable reliability gains over SRs in practice. Furthermore, our results also prove that layered-division multiplexing can cope better with receiver mobility than traditional time-division multiplexing when multiple services are intended in the same radio frequency channel.

  • We defined Jeju Wind Castle and analyzed the relationship between Hallasan-Oreum-Batdam, the main subject, for the first time. In Jeju, 1.5m high Batdam(Black Silk Road), 368 Oreums, Hallasan Mountain 1950m are all unique scenery. The verification of this paper demonstrates that Samdasoo's groundwater extraction sea level is equal to the height of Hallasan and that this problem is mathematically complete in neutral plane theory. Donnaeko(700meters above sea level)-Baeknokdamdongneung-Jindallebat-Seongpanak-Gyorae(453 meters)-Witsaeoreum(1700meters) is a rain belt that hits the low-air pressure air-conditioned North Pacific humidity rising from the southeast and the high-pressure cold air of Hallasan Peak. It rains a lot because - and + are neutral plane, which adds to zero. Hallasan is called Jinsan in Jeju history. The answer is Wind Castle. The number of Oreum in Jeju is 369 including Hallasan, and Batdam, which is about 1.5m high, does not collapse even with a typhoon blowing over 50m/s. Because the wind castle's core is 1.5 meters of Batdam and it is a triangular number.

  • In the forthcoming 21st century new technical and scientific developments in outer space demands new approaches towards the problems arising in several fields of the use and exploitation of outer space including practical applications. The main purposes of this study are to analyze the legal problems of geostationary orbital position, telecommunication, direct television broadcasting by uses of artificial satellites. Communication via artificial Earth satellites was one of the first applications of space technology and is now one of the most developed field. From the technical and economic standpoints the advantages of world-wide satellites communication system are too all obvious. However, as the practical uses of space technology become more freguent, the legal conflicts among nations have become more divisive. One of the problem grown in uses of artificial satellites is that of the increasing shortage of suitable orbital slot positions for satellites, especially in geostationary orbit. Legal status of geostationary orbit as a limited resourece have to be reviewed in consideration of the side effect of the "First use, first-served" principle. The geostationary orbit is to be used for the benifits of all mankind and to be guaranteed for each state institutionaly in order to have eguitable access to the use of the orbit. Rapid increase of satellites broadcasting system in not only developed countries but also in developing countries opened up new possibilities with one another's scientific and cultural achievements. But there is also a potential danger that this powerful new instrument of influencing public opinion will be abused. Such a danger incudes spill-over or harmful interference. This controversial issue brings about the question whether prior consent from the receiver nation is needed to broadcast across international boundaries. Some states have rejected prior consent because it interfere with the free flow of information. Many other countries have opposed that opinion as an invasion and violation of sovereignty and as a violation of the 1967 Treaty and the UN Charter. Since declaration of the First Year of Outer Space in 1985, our country have promoted the plan of launching communication and broadcasting satellites. With the Koreasat launched in 1995 as the start, a real satellite-telecommunication era was opened in korea. According to this new development of our country, there will also rise various legal problems related to satellite broadcasting and telecommunication such as the inflow of foreign programs, the permeation of culture and the infringement of program copyright. Consequently the effective reactions to these problems in satellite-communication era should be tried including international cooperation. It is therefore to take into careful consideration the legal issues which may arise in outer space activities and to formulate positive policy on international cooperation with surrounding or advanced countries and international organization concerned. For this purpose the United Nations also prepares the UNISPACE III in 1999, to enable the international community to meet a more promising 21st century.
