화학물질 독성 빅데이터와 심층학습 모델을 활용한 내분비계 장애물질 선별 방법-세정제품과 세탁제품을 중심으로 (A Screening Method to Identify Potential Endocrine Disruptors Using Chemical Toxicity Big Data and a Deep Learning Model with a Focus on Cleaning and Laundry Products)

  • Background: The number of synthesized chemicals has rapidly increased over the past decade. For many chemicals, there is a lack of information on toxicity. With the current movement toward reducing animal testing, the use of toxicity big data and deep learning could be a promising tool to screen potential toxicants. Objectives: This study identified potential chemicals related to reproductive and estrogen receptor (ER)-mediated toxicities for 1135 cleaning products and 886 laundry products. Methods: We listed chemicals contained in cleaning and laundry products from a publicly available database. Then, chemicals that potentially exhibited reproductive and ER-mediated toxicities were identified using the European Union Classification, Labeling and Packaging classification and ToxCast database, respectively. For chemicals absent from the ToxCast database, ER activity was predicted using deep learning models. Results: Among the 783 listed chemicals, there were 53 with potential reproductive toxicity and 310 with potential ER-mediated toxicity. Among the 473 chemicals not tested with ToxCast assays, deep learning models indicated that 42 chemicals exhibited ER-mediated toxicity. A total of 13 chemicals were identified as causing reproductive toxicity by reacting with the ER. Conclusions: We demonstrated a screening method to identify potential chemicals related to reproductive and ER-mediated toxicities utilizing chemical toxicity big data and deep learning. Integrating toxicity data from in vivo, in vitro, and deep learning models may contribute to screening chemicals in consumer products.

NaCl 스트레스가 토마토, 고추, 가지의 생육, 광합성 속도 및 무기양분 흡수에 미치는 영향 (Effect of NaCl Stress on the Growth, Photosynthetic Rate and Mineral Uptake of Tomato, Red Pepper and Egg Plant in Pot Culture)

  • 본 실험은 가지과 작물의 염 스트레스에 대한 생장 특성 및 생리적 반응을 구명하기 위하여 수행되었다. 생육단계에 따라 NaCl을 농도별로 처리한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 초장, 생체중 등 생육은 유묘기 및 영양 생장기 모두 NaCl 농도가 높을수록 모든 작물에서 억제되었다 특히 토마토 및 가지에서는 NaCl 40mM 이상에서, 그리고 고추에서는 20mM 이상에서 작물의 생육이 크게 억제되었다. 수량은 토마토 및 가지에 서는 NaCl 20 mM 이상에서, 그리고 고추에서는 10 mM 이상에서 감소하였다. 이러한 수량감소는 낮은 농도에서는 착과수의 감소에, 그리고 농도가 높을수록 착과수의 감소와 더불어 평균과중의 감소의 영향이 컸다. 광합성 속도는 NaCl 농도가 높을수록 감소하는 경향이었으며. 고추가 가장 낮았고, 토마토, 가지 순으로 낮았다. 잎의 수분포텐셜과 기공 전도도도 광합성과 같은 경향을 나타냈다. 경엽의 무기 양분 함량에서는 질소, 인산, 칼슘, 마그네슘 및 칼륨 함량은 NaCl 농도가 증가할수록 감소하였으나 Na 및 Cl 함량은 증가하였다.

  • Objectives: A community-based, cross-sectional survey was conducted to determine theprevalence of osteoporosis and to evaluate the effects of body composition, health behaviors and reproductive history on bone density in postmenopausal women. Methods: The study subjects were 362 postmenopausal women, aged 45 years old or over, who were invited to the hospital. Information on their socio-demographic characteristics and the potential risk factors such as their past medical history, smoking, alcohol intake, exercise, diet and menstrual/reproductive histories were collected by trained interviewers. Weight, height, the body mass index ($kg/m^{2}$), and body composition variables were measured. Bone mineral density of the lumbar spine was measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Results: The prevalence of osteoporosis was 30.6% in the $45{\sim}64$ years old women, 52.5% in the elderly women aged $65{\sim}74$, and 68.7% in the women aged 75 years or over. After adjustment for the effect of potential covariates, those women in the highest 25% (4th quartile) of the lean body mass are less likely to have osteoporosis (aOR=0.31, 95% CI=0.12-0.76), compared with the lowest quartile group. More parity also had significantly detrimental effects on osteoporosis. Conclusions: These findings suggest that the prevalence of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women increased with age from 46.3% of those aged 45-64 to 68.7% for those aged 75 and over. Lean body mass and parity appeared significant contributor to bone mineral density in postmenopausal women in this population.

Festulolium braunii의 건물수량 및 사료가치 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study on the Dry Matter Yield and Nutritive value of Festulolium braunii)

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the forage yield and quality potential of Festulolium braunii (Festuca pratensis Huds. $\times$ Lolium multiflotum Lam) as forage source in Korea. The experimental design was a split plot design with four replications from Feb. 1994 to Jan. 1996 at Hohenheim uniwrsity. Main plots were three forage species {Fesruca pratensis(Cosmos), Lolium mult~~orum(Lemtal) and Festulolium braunii(Pau1ita)) and subplots were three N levels (150,300 and 450kgha). No differences in dry matter(DM) yields were noted between Festulolium braunii and Lolium multj7orum, but DM yields for Festulolium braunii was 138 more than for Fesruca prafensis(P<0.01 ). Total DM yields over all species increased linearly with increasing N levels. The peak of DM yields over 2 years mean at 450kglha N levels were higher for Lolium mulriJotum(l5,724kg) than for Festulolium braunii(14,730kg) and for Festuca pratensis(l3,68 l kg) (P<0.01). OMD, ME, NEL and other minerals of Fesrulolium braunii were slightly higher and CP, Ca and Mg slightly lower than thsoe of Fesruca pratensis, but CP, OMD, NEL and minerals were absolutly higher for Fesrulolium braunii than for Lolium mulriflorum(P<0.01). It appears that Festulolium braunii has higher potential for improvement of the forage quality than Fesruca prarensis or Lolium rnulrijlorum. The content of CP, CF and minerals were increased, wherease OMD, ME and NEL were decreased in all species with increasing N levels. Yields of CP, DOM and NEL over 2 yean mean were increased in all species with increasing N levels. Evidence-based estimation of health care cost savings from the use of omega-3 supplementation among the elderly in Korea

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: By the year 2050, thirty-eight percent of the Korean population will be over the age of 65. Health care costs for Koreans over age 65 reached 15.4 trillion Korean won in 2011, accounting for a third of the total health care costs for the population. Chronic degenerative diseases, including coronary heart disease (CHD), drive long-term health care costs at an alarming annual rate. In the elderly population, loss of independence is one of the main reasons for this increase in health care costs. Korean heath policies place a high priority on the prevention of CHD because it is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. SUBJECTS/METHODS: This evidence-based study aims to the estimate potential health care cost savings resulting from the daily intake of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation. Potential cost savings associated with a reduced risk of CHD and the medical costs potentially avoided through risk reduction, including hospitalizations and physician services, were estimated using a Congressional Budget Office cost accounting methodology. RESULTS: The estimate of the seven-year (2005-2011) net savings in medical costs resulting from a reduction in the incidence of CHD among the elderly population through the daily use of omega-3 fatty acids was approximately 210 billion Korean won. Approximately 92,997 hospitalizations due to CHD could be avoided over the seven years. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that omega-3 supplementation in older individuals may yield substantial cost-savings by reducing the risk of CHD. It should be noted that additional health and cost benefits need to be revisited and re-evaluated as more is known about possible data sources or as new data become available.

KLAPS 재분석 자료를 활용한 집중호우의 3차원 분석 (Three-dimensional Analysis of Heavy Rainfall Using KLAPS Re-analysis Data)

  • Heavy rainfall (over $80mm\;hr^{-1}$) system associated with unstable atmospheric conditions occurred over the Seoul metropolitan area on 27 July 2011. To investigate the heavy rainfall system, we used three-dimensional data from Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System (KLAPS) reanalysis data and analysed the structure of the precipitation system, kinematic characteristics, thermodynamic properties, and Meteorological condition. The existence of Upper-Level Jet (ULJ) and Low-Level Jet (LLJ) are accelerated the heavy rainfall. Convective cloud developed when a strong southwesterly LLJ and strong moisture convergence occurring around the time of the heavy rainfall is consistent with the results of previous studies on such continuous production. Environmental conditions included high equivalent potential temperature of over 355 K at low levels, and low equivalent potential temperature of under 330 K at middle levels, causing vertical instability. The tip of the band shaped precipitation system was made up of line-shaped convective systems (LSCSs) that caused flooding and landslides, and the LSCSs were continuously enhanced by merging between new cells and the pre-existing cell. Difference of wind direction between low and middle levels has also been considered an important factor favouring the occurrence of precipitation systems similar to LSCSs. Development of LSCs from the wind direction difference at heights of the severe precipitation occurrence area was also identified. This study can contribute to the identification of production and development mechanisms of heavy rainfall and can be used in applied research for prediction of severe weather.

The appropriate shape of the boundary transition section for a mountain-gorge terrain model in a wind tunnel test

  • Characterization of wind flows over a complex terrain, especially mountain-gorge terrain (referred to as the very complex terrain with rolling mountains and deep narrow gorges), is an important issue for design and operation of long-span bridges constructed in this area. In both wind tunnel testing and numerical simulation, a transition section is often used to connect the wind tunnel floor or computational domain bottom and the boundary top of the terrain model in order to generate a smooth flow transition over the edge of the terrain model. Although the transition section plays an important role in simulation of wind field over complex terrain, an appropriate shape needs investigation. In this study, two principles for selecting an appropriate shape of boundary transition section were proposed, and a theoretical curve serving for the mountain-gorge terrain model was derived based on potential flow theory around a circular cylinder. Then a two-dimensional (2-D) simulation was used to compare the flow transition performance between the proposed curved transition section and the traditional ramp transition section in a wind tunnel. Furthermore, the wind velocity field induced by the curved transition section with an equivalent slope of $30^{\circ}$ was investigated in detail, and a parameter called the 'velocity stability factor' was defined; an analytical model for predicting the velocity stability factor was also proposed. The results show that the proposed curved transition section has a better flow transition performance compared with the traditional ramp transition section. The proposed analytical model can also adequately predict the velocity stability factor of the wind field.

양액농도와 Cu 스트레스가 양액재배 머스크멜론의 수분포텐셜, 침투포텐셜 및 팽압에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Concentrations of Nutrient Solution and Cu Stress on the Water Potential, Solute Potential and Turgor Pressure in Hydroponically Grown Muskmelon)

  • 1. 배양액의 EC(mS/cm)와 배양액의 수분포텐셜은 직선적인 관계가 있고, EC의 증가는 배양액의 수분포텐셜 저하로 나타났으며 이에 따라 상위엽의 수분포텐셜이나 침투포텐셜이 변화하는 경향을 보였다. 2. 물리화학, 열역학적인 지표가 되는 수분포텐셜($\phi$w)은 배양액 뿐만 아니라 식물의 근, 경, 엽 및 과실에서의 수분 상태를 동일 단위로 나타내는 것으로 식물의 생장을 제어할 때 유일한 지표인 것으로 나타났다. 3. 배양액의 수분포텐셜 저하에 따라 상위엽의 수분포텐셜이나 침투포텐셜이 저하하는 경향을 보였다. 4. 배지내 Cu 농도가 5$\mu\textrm{m}$이상으로 되면 생육, 지상부의 생체중, 지하부의 건물중, 엽록소 함유율이 동시에 급격히 저하하는 경향을 보였다. 5. 배지내 Cu 농도의 증가에 따라서 생장율의 저하가 나타났으며 생장율의 저하에 따라 상위엽의 수분포텐셜이 저하하는 경향을 보였다. 팽압은 처리에 관계없이 거의 일정하게 나타나 팽압과 배지내 배양액의 Cu 농도 스트레스간에는 직접적으로 관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 수분포텐셜($\psi$w)은 식물신장, 세포신장을 수적으로 표현하는 것이 가능하다. 수원이 되는 용액이나 배지, 식물체를 동일 단위(㎫)로 관찰하는 것이 가능해 식물체의 수분생리적 비교 검사를 위한 유효한 방법으로 생각되었다.

간수를 이용한 축산폐수의 struvite 결정화 (Struvite Crystallization of Swine Wastewater using Bittern)

  • This study goes in for the observation of the characteristics of nitrogen removal from swine wastewater by struvite crystallization. In addition, the struvite formation potential in supernatants after struvite crystallization was investigated. In the study for nitrogen removal by struvite crystallization, the effects of pH and molar ratio of magnesium (Mg) injected using bittern as Mg source were investigated. Also, the potential of struvite formation in the supernatant with amount of Mg added was carefully observed. As the results, the optimum pH in the removal of nitrogen was 8.8 and sludge volume was increased as pH was raised from 7 to 12 under the condition that the molar ratio of $Mg^{2+}$ to ${NH_4}^+$-N to ${PO_4}^{3-}$-P was 1:1:1. An optimum removal efficiency of ammonia-N was observed at 1 molar ratio of Mg to ${NH_4}^+$-N, showing no further increase at over 1 molar ratio and dramatical deterioration at under 1 molar ratio. However, the sludge volume was increased by increasing the molar ratio of Mg. In the experiments for the potential of struvite formation in the supernatants, initial -log([$Mg^{2+}$][${NH_4}^+$][${PO_4}^{3-}$]) value was much lower than $pK_{sp}$ and gradually reached $pK_{sp}$ at 2 days, as the molar ratio of Mg increased over 1.2. At 31 days, -log([$Mg^{2+}$][${NH_4}^+$][${PO_4}^{3-}$]) value was returned to the initial value. In addition, the supernatants had a potential precipitation of hydroxylapatite due to calcium contained in bittern, $K_2Mg(SO_4)_3$ and $K_3Na(SO_4)_2$ resulting from the decrease of sodium and potassium in supernatants formed after struvite crystallization as times go by. Based on the results, it appears that some retention time and proper dosage of Mg may be needed for the prevention of scale in pipe line.

수종 임플랜트 금속의 내식성에 관한 전기화학적 연구 (AN ELECTROCHEMICAL STUDY ON THE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF THE VARIOUS IMPLANT METALS)

  • Titanium and its alloys are finding increasing use in medical devices and dental implants. The strong selling point of titanium is its resistance to the highly corrosive body fluids in which an implant must survive. This corrosion resistance is due to a tenacious passive oxide or film which exists on the metal's surface and renders it passive. Potentiodynamic polarization measurement is one of the most commonly used electro-chemical methods that have been applied to measure corrosion rates. And the potentiodynamic polarization test supplies detailed information such as open circuit, rupture, and passivation potential. Furthermore, it indicates the passive range and sensitivity to pitting corrosion. This study was designed to compare the corrosion resistance of the commonly used dental implant materials such as CP Ti, Ti-6A1-4V, Co-Cr-Mo alloy, and 316L stainless steel. And the effects of galvanic couples between titanium and the dental alloys were assessed for their useful-ness-as. materials for superstructure. The working electrode is the specimen , the reference electrode is a saturated calomel electrode (SCE), and the counter electrode is made of carbon. In $N_2-saturated$ 0.9% NaCl solutions, the potential scanning was performed starting from -800mV (SCE) and the scan rate was 1 mV/sec. At least three different polarization measurements were carried out for each material on separate specimen. The galvanic corrosion measurements were conducted in the zero-shunt ammeter with an implant supraconstruction surface ratio of 1:1. The contact current density was recorded over a 24-hour period. The results were as follows : 1. In potential-time curve, all specimens became increasingly more noble after immersion in the test solution and reached between -70mV and 50mV (SCE) respectively after 12 hours. 2. The Ti and Ti alloy in the saline solution were most resistant to corrosion. They showed the typical passive behavior which was exhibited over the entire experimental range. Therefore no breakdown potentials were observed. 3. Comparing the rupture potentials, Ti and Ti alloy had the high(:st value (because their break-down potentials were not observed in this study potential range ) followed by Co-Cr-Mo alloy and stainless steel (316L). So , the corrosion resistance of titanium was cecellent, Co-Cr-Mo alloy slightly inferior and stainless steel (316L) much less. 4. The contact current density sinks faster than any other galvanic couple in the case of Ti/gold alloy. 5. Ag-Pd alloy coupled with Ti yielded high current density in the early stage. Furthermore, Ti became anodic. 6. Ti/Ni-Cr alloy showed a relatively high galvanic current and a tendency to increase.
