  • A simulation study on SCR (Steam Carbon dioxide Reforming) process in gas-to-liquid (natural gas to Fischer-Tropsch synthetic fuel) process was carried out in order to find optimum reaction conditions for GTL (gas-to-liquid) process reaction. Optimum SCR operating conditions for synthesis gas to FT (Fischer-Tropsch) process were determined by changing reaction variables such as feed temperature and pressure. During the simulation, overall synthesis process was assumed to proceed under steady-state conditions. It was also assumed that physical properties of reaction medium were governed by RKS (Redlich-Kwong-Soave) equation. SCR process was considered as reaction models for synthesis gas in GTL proess. The effect of temperature and pressure on SCR process $H_2$/CO ratio and the effect of reaction pressure on SCR reaction were mainly examined. Simulation results were also compared to experimental results to confirm the reliability of simulation model. Simulation results were reasonably well matched with experimental results.

  • Gas hydrate has a unique property that can store a large volume of gas in water as a solid form. Even though investigations for natural gas storage technology have been carried out for several decades, there are still a lot of unsolved problems due to complex formation process, low formation speed, high energy consumption and so on. So, lots of experiments were conducted to overcome these weaknesses and to develop artificial NGH formation technology applicable to industrial-scale storage and commercial transport. In this study, some series of experiments were performed to analyze both stirred and unstirred system especially about the influences of several gas hydrate formation factors such as agitation speed, system temperature, SDS concentration, etc. As a result, optimum range of SDS concentration and temperature that could enhance the storage capacity and shorten the formation time were found. And it is obviously presented that SDS such a kind of surfactant promotes gas hydrate formation dramatically and the quantity of stored gas are proportional to agitation speed in stirred system.

  • Day and night sampling for gas and particle phases PAHs were carried out in Seoul to characterize gas and particle phases PAHs concentrations in day and night times. There was no significant difference between day and night time for particle phase PAHs concentrations and phase distribution of PAHs, while, gas phase PAHs concentrations in daytime were about 1/2 of nighttime concentrations in both summer and winter due to photochemical reaction of gas phase PAHs during daytime. A high fraction of cancer risk for PAHs was attributed to particle phase PAHs and the excess cancer risk in winter was higher than in summer. The excess cancer risk level of total(gas+particle) PAHs in summer was partially observed when both gas and particle phase PAHs concentrations were considered as risk assessment. Based on the diagnostic ratios and factor analysis of PAHs concentrations, combustion(coal and natural gas) and vehicular emission might be the most significant contributors of PAHs and major factors for determining of PAHs concentration were different between day and night times.

  • The quantity of the fuel gas consumed is trending upwards because it can be easily delivered but isn't deteriorated and doesn't have any environmental pollution. Though there are many advantages to use the fuel gas, it can be hesitated to consume more gas because of its explosiveness and combustibility. So paying more attentions to prevent the fuel gas accidents is required. In this paper, we examine the present situation data about the fuel gas accidents and analyze them statistically using ANOVA. we confirm that there is an acceptable difference between the mean values of accidents classified by the kind of gas, the cause, the type and the place but isn't by month. It is expected that our result can be applied as preliminary data when mapping out a strategy for preventing the fuel gas accidents.

  • In Japan, research and development were undertaken on gas hydrate-side industrial processes associated with power generation system connections that may particularly be necessary to develop gas hydrated technology-based industrial systems. In so doing, data and engineering technologies useful n formulating guidelines on design of practical process were accumulated. In addition, basic research into theoretical evidence were carried out to promote and support the development of technological elements for those processes. In basic research designed to promote and support the research and development of elemental technologies microanalyses were conducted to understand the decomposition mechanism of mixed gas hydrate. Moreover, measurement technologies that can be applied in industrial processes, such as numerical analyses and concentration ion measurement, were examined. Japan has developed a highly efficient gas hydrate formation process using micro-bubbles with a tubular reactor. Higher formation rate over conventional systems has been obtained by the process. As mentioned above, the technical problems were clarified and the economics were studied from a view point of the NGH technology in this study. The results can be applied for utilization and must contribute to popularization of gas hydrate production.

  • Basic studies on natural gas hydrates in the East Sea were been carried out by the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) from 2000 to 2004 involving 2D multichannel seismic lines and piston coring. 27 piston cores recovered from the deed-water Ulleung Basin of the East Sea were analyzed in this study. In piston cores cracks generally developed parallel to bedding suggest significant gas content. The core analyses showed high total organic carbon (TOC) content, sedimentation rate and heat flow of sediments. The cores recovered from the southern study area show also high residual hydrocarbon gas concentrations for the formation of natural gas hydrates. This study indicates that there is the potential for the generation of biogenic gas and the formation of natural gas hydrates in the near seafloor sediments of the study area.

  • An analysis has been made on the performance variation due to pressure drop change at propellant supply pipes of liquid rocket engine. The objective is to compare the effectiveness of control variables to tune the liquid rocket engine performance. The mode analysis program has been used to estimate the engine performance for different modes which is realized by controlling the flow rate of propellant. The oxidizer of combustion chamber, the fuel of combustion chamber, the oxidizer of gas generator and the fuel of gas generator are the independent variables to control engine thrust, engine mixture ratio and temperature of gas generator product gas. The analysis program is validated by comparing with the powerpack test results. The error range of compared variables is order of 4%. After comparison of tuning effectiveness it is turned out that the pressure drop at oxidizer pipe of gas generator and pressure drop at combustion chamber fuel pipe and the pressure drop at the fuel pipe of gas generator can effectively tune the thrust of engine, mixture ratio of engine and temperature of product gas from gas generator respectively.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the effect of compounded welding through the AE(Acoustic Emission) characteristics for weld HAZ(Heat Affected Zone) under the static tensile test. This study was carried out an SWS 490A, high tension steel for electric shield metal arc welding(SMAW), $CO_2$ gas arc welding and TIG welding. Data displays are based on the measured parameters of the AE signals, along with environmental variables such as time and load. The accumulated AE event curve of HAZ definitely have the point of inflection subject to tensile test. The results of the tensile test of HAZ come out electric shield arc welding >$CO_2$ gas arc welding>TIG welding in case of single welding, but generally the tensile test of HAZ come out electric shield arc welding> TIG welding > $CO_2$ gas arc welding. These history plots give us useful and powerful information to analyze the results of material evaluation testing.

  • N2O is hazardous atmosphere pollution matter which can damage the ozone layer and cause green house effect. There are many other nitrogen oxide emission control but N2O has no its particular method. Preventing further environmental pollution and global warming, it is essential to control N2O emission from industrial machines. In this study, the thermal decomposition experiment of N2O gas mixture is conducted by using cylindrical reactor to figure out N2O reduction and NO formation. And CHEMKIN calculation is conducted to figure out reaction rate and mechanism. Residence time of the N2O gas in the reactor is set as experimental variable to imitate real SNCR system. As a result, most of the nitrogen components are converted into N2. Reaction rate of the N2O gas decreases with N2O emitted concentration. At 800℃ and 900℃, N2O reduction variance and NO concentration are increased with residence time and temperature. However, at 1000℃, N2O reduction variance and NO concentration are deceased in 40s due to forward reaction rate diminished and reverse reaction rate appeared.

  • A diesel-Liquefied natural gas(LNG) combustion engine truck fleet demonstration project had been carried out and commercial expansion project was launched. The key issues of these projects are the safety of LNG fuel station and the reduction of natural gas relief. When LNG is fueled to LNG vehicles the heat is input in the LNG system. The LNG in the fueling system was boiled and the vapor of LNG is vented through the safety devices. The temperature of the vapor of LNG is $-108^{\circ}C$ and density is heavier than air. It can be dispersed to downside of the fuel station. The safety evaluation is carried out using CFD program and risk assessment program for the vapor of LNG in the LNG vehicle fuel station. The hazards are identified and suggested the operation instruction to reduce the relief of LNG vapor.
