Effects of Supplemention of Antibiotic, Probiotic and Yeast Culture of Performance and Meat Quality in Broiler Chicks (항생제, 생균제 및 효모제 첨가가 육계의 성장과 육질에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplementions of 0.1% probiotic and 0.1% yeast culture on the growth performance and meat quality of broiler chicks. A total of 160 Arbor Acre broiler chicks were randomly allotted to 16 pens ; four pens per treatment and 10 birds per pen. Feeding trial lasted for 6 weeks. The results obtained are summerized as follows : The body weight gain and feed intake was slightly higher in group of broiler chick supplemented antibiotic than those of other treatment groups, but were not significantly different among treatments. The feed conversion were slightly lower in groups of broiler chick supplemented antibiotic and probiotic than those of other treatment groups, but were not significantly different among treatments. The pH of thigh musle was slightly higher in group of broiler chick supplemented probiotic than those of other treatment groups. Crude protein, crude fat and crude ash of thigh muscle were lower in groups of broiler chick supplemented probiltic and yeast culture than those of other treatment groups, but were not significantly different among treatments. The saturated fatty acid content of the thigh muscle was tende to be higher in group of broiler chick supplemented yeast culture, but the unsaturated fatty acid content was tende to be lower in group of broiler chick supplemented yeast culture than those of other treatment groups.

PARTICLE POOL SIZE AND TURNOVER RATE OF INGESTA IN THE RETICULO-RUMEN OF NORMAL AND ABSESSED SHEEP

  • Sixteen mature sheep were fed chaffed orchardgrass hay once a day for 7 days. In 7th day, four sheep were slaughtered either prior to eating, 2, 8 or 16 hours after the commencement of eating to measure digesta pool size and particle size distribution in the reticulo-rumen. One sheep slaughtered at 8 hours after feeding had absesses at the cardia and in the lungs and could not ruminate normally. Time spent eating and rumination in the sheep on the day before slaughtering were 85 and 29 (pseudo-rumination 227) minutes a day, compared to those were 112 and 277 minutes in the other animals, respectively. Total actual chewing time in the sheep with absesses and the other animals were 98 and $373{\pm}132$ minutes, respectively. Dry matter(DM) intake in the sheep was $2.9g/kgBW^{0.75}$ which was only about 17% of that in the other animals. The pool sizes of reticulo-rumen DM and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) were somewhat smaller in the sheep than the others. The pool sizes of large particle (>1.18mm) DM and NDF in the animal were similar with those in the other animals. Mean DM retention time in the sheep was 207.4 hours which was about 4.2 times longer than that in the other animals.

  • Cam mechanism is a machine part frequently used in machinery. Specially, conjugate cam mechanism is very suitable for the high speed working and the heavy power translation. Then a conjugate cam mechanism need high precision for the relations between cam profiles and follower rollers. So, its design and manufacturing are very difficult. Thus, this study is a branch of exclusive CAM systems for design and NC machining of conjugate earn mechanism based on a master plate earn profile in order to exchange an old plate cam mechanism to a new conjugate earn mechanism. For the design of the other cam profile by using a master cam profile, some calculation processes were used by vector summation methods, from master cam profile data to the center data of master follower, from the center data of master follower to the center data of the other follower considered in link mechanism, and offsetting in the center direction of base circle of the other cam from the center data of the other follower. Finally, a sample conjugate cam was selected and machined m order to prove the contents of this study.

  • Congenital deficiency of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a rare disorder that has been reported in association with other knee dysplasia like as congenital knee dislocation. congenital short femur, congenital absence of menisci, congenital ring meniscus, and thrombocytopenia-absent radius syndrome. There has been no published explanation about the etiology of bilaeral ACL deficiencies without other abnomality. The patient of congenital ACL deficiency must be carefully inspected about combined anomaly. Those efforts may be helful in treatment or ACL deficient patients and evaluation of pathophysiology or ACL deficiency. However there has not been a ruptured congenital deficiency of the ACL without other dysplasia or the knee and other congenital skeletal abnomalities. We reported a case of symptomatic bilateral congenital deficiencies of the ACL which have not been associated with other skeletal abnormalities.

Natural and Anthropogenic Heavy Metal Deposition to the Snow in King George Island, Antarctic Peninsula

  • Successive 24 snow samples, collected from a 1.2m snow pit at a site on the summit of Main Dome in King George Island, Antarctic Peninsula, were measured for heavy metals such as Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn and other chemical species. The mean concentrations of heavy metals are 3.48pg/g for Pb, 0.10pg/g for Cd, 16.6 pg/g for Cu and 15.8 pg/g for Zn, respectively. Pb and Cd concentrations observed in our samples are very comparable to those reported for recent snow at other Antarctic sites, while Zn and Cu levels are much higher than those at other sites. The annual fallout fluxes of all heavy metals approximately calculated are, however, much greater in King George Island than at other sites. With respect to the estimates of natural contributions, sea salt spray is found to be a major contributor to Cd and Zn inputs to the snow and minor to Cu inputs. On the other hand, the anthropogenic input can account for a large part of Pb concentrations. A tentative estimate represents that local emissions could be responsible for more than half of the excess Pb flux to the snow in King George Island.

Prospect of Family Day-care with regard to the National Policy of Child-rearing Support (육아지원정책에 따른 가정보육시설의 운영방향)

  • As the fertility rate of Korea has recently decreased to the lowest level in the world, the recognition of the needs for social support for the child-care has been increased. This resulted in the announcement of National Policy of Child-Rearing Support in 2004. This study attempted to propose the activation of the family child-care for the preparation of the introduction of the National Policy of Child-Rearing Support. Using literature review and interview, the following research questions were addressed. Firstly, the actual situation of the family child-care was compared with that of the other types of child-care. Secondly, the policies of child-rearing support and the family child-care systems in other countries such as United Kingdom, Sweden and Japan were introduced. Finally, activations of the family child-care were discussed in terms of the introduction of the National Policy of Child-Rearing Support. The results of this study implies that the family child-care in Korea is different from that of other countries as well as other types of child-care in Korea. Also, it suggests that key factors of the activation of the family child-care in Korea are to identify as the small, informal and family-like child-care, to differentiate as the infant-care and non-standard time child-care from other types of child-care, and to increase the level of professionalization. In conclusion, family child-care should become an alternative for the low fertility problem.

Effects of L-carnitine on the ovariectomized rat (L-carnitine이 난소가 제거된 흰쥐에 미치는 영향)

  • This was conducted to determine the effects of body weight, organ weight, hematological values and biochemical parameters by L-carnitine in the ovariectomized (OVX) rats. The animals were divided into 4 groups. Intact group (n=10) received no treatment and operation. Sham group (n=10) received only sham operation and no treatment. OVX group (n=10) received operation and no treatment. OVX+Carn group (n=10) received operation and L-carnitine. Body weight was significantly lower in OVX+Carn group than in all other groups. Also, organ weight such as heart, liver, spleen and kidney was measured. The heart and spleen weight were significantly lower in the OVX+Carn group than in the Intact and Sham group. The liver weight in the OVX+Carn group was significantly differences in comparison with those in the other groups. Also, there was significantly differences in the organ weight of kidney between in the OVX+Carn group and in the other groups. The hematological values of WBC, RBC, MCV, MCH and MCHC were no significant differences in any other groups. The total cholesterol, triglyceride and high density lipoprotein decreased significantly in the OVX+Carn group as compared to those in the OVX group. But, there were no significant differences in low density lipoprotein in any other groups. We conclude that L-carnitine enhanced the body weight in the ovariectomized rats. Our findings suggest that L-carnitine may influence the process of absorption of fat in the ovariectomized rats.

  • We have studied the other unit which is partial element in fullerene $C_{90}$. The energy of the higher fullerene increased by 5.6 kcal/mol for each $1.0{\beta}$ of planarity for the other units and increased by 11.0 kcal/mol for each $2C_1$ other unit at RHF/AM1 method. Therefore, we have known that the stable $C_{90}$ isomer do not have $C_1$ unit in other unit and have small planarity. The confirmable $C_{90}$ isomers by experiment satisfies these two conditions.

  • The study was conducted for an attempt to improve the diluting fluid for total leukocyte count, and to prepare a multipurpose diluting fluid for concurrent direct counts of total leukocytes, eosinophils and the other leukocytes. Through the experiment, two better fluids for total leukocyte count of blood of human, bovine, swine, canine and rabbit were selected, and which conserved cell morphology of leukocytes better than $T{\ddot{u}}rk$-solution. Each formula of two fluids were given as under R I and R II. Formula of multipurpose diluting fluid selected in the experiment was given as under III. With this fluid, direct counts of total leukocytes, eosinophils and probably basophils of blood of human, bovine and swine were practicable concurrently in the same counting chamber of a hemocytometer. In this fluid, eosinophils were stained red in the part of eosinophilic granules and blue in other part of cell, and basophils were stained dark blue like as a lump of black granules, staining three other leukocytes faint blue. Eosinophils of canine blood were not so enough red those in other animal and human and eosinophils of rabbit blood were not distinguishable from pseudoeosinophils in this fluid.

Utilization Patterns of Other Region Inpatients in General Hospitals Located in Seoul Area (타 지역 환자의 서울지역 종합병원 입원이용에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the utilization patterns of other region inpatients in general hospitals located in Seoul area. For the analysis, the study utilize the nationwide data on '2008 Survey of Patients' of Ministry of Health & Welfare. The statistical methodology used in the study is the logistic regression model. This study has three major findings. First, the significant affecting sociodemographic factors in selecting general hospitals located in Seoul area was sex, age, type of payment and inpatients residence region. Second, compared to other disease groups, the inpatients on both 'congenital malformation, deformity and chromosomal abnormalities' and 'neoplasm' groups are more likely to utilize general hospitals in Seoul area. Furthermore, in 'neoplasm' disease group, inpatients with 'bones and articular cartilage malignant neoplasm' are more likely to utilize general hospitals in Seoul area. Finally, hospitals with more than 1,000 beds was chief factor in selecting Seoul-based hospitals by other region inpatients. In conclusion, the study showed that other region inpatients are more likely to utilize general hospitals located in Seoul area in case of severe disease, rare case and surgical case. Therefore, central and local authority is required to monitor local hospitals on quality of the medical service as well as support them to establish specialized medical centers by providing human and physical resources.
