  • Objective: Information about the chemical composition of cassava-based feed ingredients is needed to accurately formulate animal diets. A study was conducted to determine the chemical composition of cassava-based feed ingredients and to test the hypothesis that there is variation in chemical composition among cassava products originating from different South-East Asian countries. Methods: Sources of dried peeled and unpeeled cassava roots, cassava chips, cassava meal, high-ash cassava meal, and cassava residue were used. All samples were analyzed for dry matter, gross energy, nitrogen, amino acids (AA), acid-hydrolyzed ether extract (AEE), ash, minerals, total starch, insoluble dietary fiber, and soluble dietary fiber. Samples of peeled and unpeeled cassava roots, cassava chips, and cassava meal were also analyzed for sugars. Results: High-ash cassava meal had greater (p<0.05) dry matter and ash, but lower (p<0.05) total starch and gross energy than all other cassava products. Peeled cassava roots, unpeeled cassava roots, and cassava chips had greater (p<0.05) total starch than the other cassava-based ingredients. Cassava residue had greater (p<0.05) concentrations of lysine, insoluble dietary fiber, and soluble dietary fiber compared with the other cassava products, but tryptophan and glutamic acid were greater (p<0.05) in peeled cassava roots, cassava chips, and cassava meal samples compared with the other ingredients. Concentration of most minerals was greater (p<0.05) in high-ash cassava meal than in the other cassava products. Conclusion: Cassava-based ingredients sold as peeled roots, unpeeled roots, chips, or meal have chemical compositions that are not different from each other, and peeling has little impact on chemical composition. High-ash cassava meal has lower nutritional quality compared with other cassava products due to low starch and gross energy. The high fiber content in cassava residue makes this ingredient more suitable for ruminants and sows than for younger pigs or poultry.

This study uses the hierarchical regression analysis method. Data were collected by the survey method from employees engaged in the service industry located Seoul, the Province of Gyeonggi, and the Province of Gangwon. The study result shows that to the employees with the type A style, need styles are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as avoiding. But to the employees with the type B style, need styles are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as integrating and avoiding. On the other hand the result shows that the higher the need for achievement and the lower the need for autonomy, employees with the type B style prefer integrating styles to other conflicts handling styles. Or the higher the need for dominance, employees with the type B style prefer dominating styles to other conflicts handling styles. And the higher the need for dominance, employees with the type A style prefer dominating styles to other conflicts handling styles. The study result shows that to the employees with the type A and type X style, task group functioning are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as obliging and compromising. But to the employees with the type B style, task group functioning are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as obliging and dominating. On the other hand the result shows that the lower faith in peers and management and the higher confidence in peers and management, employees with the type B style prefer obliging style to other conflicts handling styles. But the higher group homogeneity and group cohesiveness, the lower faith in peers and management and the higher confidence in peers and management, employees with the type X style prefer obliging style to other conflicts handling styles. And the higher confidence in peers and management, employees with the type A style prefer compromising style to other conflicts handling styles. The study result shows that to the employees with the type A, organizational structure functioning are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as avoiding, obliging and compromising. But to the employees with the type X style, organizational structure functioning are significantly related to the conflicts handling styles such as dominating. On the other hand the result shows that the higher role conflict, the lower role ambiguity and the higher communication system, employees with the type A style prefer avoiding style to other conflicts handling styles. But the lower role ambiguity, employees with the type X style prefer compromising style to other conflicts handling styles. To conclude from these results, employees with the type A style have influence on the organizational structure functioning to other factors on the preference of the conflicts handling styles. And employees with the type B style have influence on the needs styles to other factors on the preference of the conflicts handling styles. Or employees with the type X style have influence on the task group functioning to other factors on the preference of the conflicts handling styles. Although this study provides several managerial implications, this study has some limitations. Specifically data were collected from only the service industry in Seoul, the Province of Gyeonggi, and the Province of Gangwon. In spite of the limitations, the study results could be used valuably in case of the personnel managers which manage the employees under the conflict situations.

  • To investigate the visual and extra-ocular photoreception, we cloned the opsin genes in ayu (Plecoglossus allivelis). Amplified fragments encoding exon-4 (-5) of opsin cDNAs were cloned from the retina and brains of ayu, and sequenced. One clone was identified as rod (AYU-Rh), two as green cone (AYU-GI, -G2), one as red cone (A YU-R), two as ultraviolet cone (AYU-UVl, UV2), one as VA (AYU-VA), and one as extra-ocular rod (AYU-ExoRh) opsins. 335 amino acids sequence deduced from the full-length cDNA of AYU-Rh showed high identity with that of other fish. Southern blotting analysis indicated that ayu possess two 'rhodopsin' genes, one is visual rhodopsin and the other is non-visual extra-ocular rhodopsin. In situ hybridization showed that the mRNA of AYU-Rh was localized only in rod cells in the retina. On the other hands, AYU-ExoRh was expressed only in the pineal. We cloned two isoforms (AYU-VAM and -VAL) of VA opsin from ayu. The deduced amino acid sequences of these variants were identical to each other within the first 342 residues, but they showed divergence in the C-terminal sequence. AYU- VAL corresponded to the long isoform found in other fish, and AYU-VAM was identified as a new type of VA opsin variant. Pal-VAM is a new probably functional non-visual photoreceptive molecule in fish.

  • Physicochemical characteristics and analysis of functional constituents of mulberry (Morus alba L.) fruit juices were investigated according to four different mulberry cultivars, including iksuppong, daeseongppong, cheongilppong and kwasangppong. Among the four mulberry cultivars examined, the small-sized cheongilppong had higher soluble solid content and lower titratable acidity, whereas the big-sized daeseongppong had higher titratable acidity and lower soluble solid content than other mulberry cultivars. Cheongilppong had higher contents of fructose and glucose, while daeseongppong had higher contents of citric and malic acids than the other mulberry cultivars. Kwasangppong had higher contents of two anthocyanins, cyanidin 3-glucoside and cyanidin 3-rutinoside, while cheongilppong had lower contents of two anthocyanins than the other mulberry cultivars. Daeseongppong had higher contents of resveratrols, flavonoids and moracin, whereas cheongilppong had higher levels of protocatechuic, chlorogenic and caffeic acids than the other mulberry fruits. Of the four mulberry cultivars, daeseongppong and cheongilppong had higher contents of GABA and DNJ, respectively, than the other mulberry cultivars. These results provide useful information to food technologists for the development and standardization of high quality mulberry juices as well as their processed foods.

  • Nine species of genus Ganoderma different in cultural characteristics each other were separated by histo-anatomical differences. Differences among the species and geographic distribution of G. lucidum were also analyzed to provide the criteria for the classification of Korean cultivation or wild type strains. Korean cultivation and wild type strains were quiet different from other species as well as Taiwan and North American G. lucidum strains in histo-anatomical traits of Ganoderma. Pore color of Korean G. lucidum strains was less brown than those of Taiwan and North American strains. Shapes of pores were round or circular in Korean strains but ellipsoidal or angular in Taiwan or North American strains. Pore numbers of Korean strains were more than those($4{\sim}6/mm$) of Taiwan or North American strains. Hardness of the pileus of Korean strains was much more than that of Taiwan or North American strains. Such characteristics of Korean strains were different from those of other species of Ganoderma. Korean G. lucidum strains could be classified into the other group because they had many different traits in growth characteristics of fruiting bodies and histo-anatomical characteristics from those of Taiwan or North American G. lucidum and other species of G. lucidum complex.

The methods of this study are the study of academic literatures as well as practical study through the analysis of case studies about actual works. The summary of this study's results is like followings. First, Perspectives seeing formative characteristic on Korean fashion image are Shape with a line, color, material, pattern, accessories. Second, Design factors deciding Korean fashion image are pattern, then in order of shape, color, material, accessories. Third, In results on design factor deciding Korean fashion image, when fashion designers focus on pattern, pattern is focused on without regard for other design factor. But color and material are accompanied by other design factor in expressing Korean fashion image. As fashion design point expressing Korean astetic, use of pattern is minimized other design factor, color and material are used with other design factor, then Korean fashion image will come out more than other time else. If We develop Korean fashion design to concentrate on shape and pattern, Korean fashion culture will be known to world people and beautiful value of Korean fashion will be handed effectively.
