The purpose of this study was to investigate the cytotoxicity of orthodontic bands in vitro and in vivo4 types of orthodontic bands were applied to cultured fibroblast and the supernatants were injected into dorsal subcutaneous tissue of mice. In vitro.the cytotoxixity was evaluated by an MTT assay after 2 and 6days. In vivo, the histopathologic observation was performed 2 days after injection. The results were : 1. The cell viability was significantly decreased in the group added phosphoric acid in comparison to control group, but there was not any significance among the experimental group after 2 days. 2. Cell viability decreased in the high Ni containing group after 6 days. 3. The histopathological finding was that the Cr-containing group showed severe infiltration of inflammatory cells and muscular destruction.
The incorporation of technological advances in the field of clinical orthodontics to increase treatment efficiency has led to the development of customized appliances (Insignia$^{(R)}$), archwires (Suresmile$^{(R)}$), and the production of devices to enhance tooth movement (Acceledent$^{(R)}$). This review presents a comprehensive study of the literature concerning these products, and analyzes the available evidence of their efficiency. To date, one pilot study has evaluated the efficiency of the Insignia$^{(R)}$ system, three retrospective studies have assessed the efficiency of the Suresmile$^{(R)}$ system, and a few Acceledent$^{(R)}$ reports have described its effect on treatment time. Critical appraisal of the reviewed papers revealed that the efficiency of the Insignia$^{(R)}$ system cannot be confirmed based on the available evidence, while the use of Suresmile$^{(R)}$ can reduce overall treatment time in simple cases. The acceleration of tooth movement by Acceledent$^{(R)}$ devices has not yet been confirmed.

Many clinicians expect complete healing after the removal of temporary anchorage devices, but clinical examination may reveal scar-like tissue. This report presents the typical features of scarring detected after the removal of miniscrews, and the clinical outcome of scar revision along with its pathologic features.
The permanent second molars, erupted about 12-13 years old, are finally erupted except wisdom teeth. Although they are likely to be excluded in the orthodontic treatment because located in the most posterior area of the dentition, about twenty percents of the orthodontic patients have abnormal occlusion of the permanent second molars, and we usually observed the malalignment of the permanent second molars in the finished case without including this teeth. These permanent second molars should be necessarily corrected by orthodontic appliances for the dynamic-normal occlusion. Moreover, according to the previously mentioned treatment philosophy, there are clear advantages in the cases which the permanent second molars were used for anchorage source, and this has been proposed convincingly by many authers. Therefore it is reasonable that orthodontists determine to include the permanent second molars among orthodontic treatment, but particular cases.

Transposition is defined as a dental anomaly manifested by a positional interchange of 2 adjacent teeth within the same quadrant of the dental arch. Maxillary canine-first premolar [Mx4-3] transposition is the most frequent tooth transposition reported in the literature. In this case report, an orthodontic correction of a transposition of the maxillary left canine and first premolar with the help of palatally located mini-implant anchorage is described. Esthetic and occlusal evaluations suggested alignment of the transposed teeth to their correct anatomic positions in the dental arch. The clinical result at the end of the treatment was satisfactory. Alignment was obtained, and intercuspation was adequate. Nevertheless, the maxillary canine showed facial recession, probably because it was initially positioned buccally. Supporting tissue was examined after treatment and no alveolar bone damage was observed.

During orthodontic treatment of impacted teeth, use of appropriate anchorage against the traction force is important. Tooth anchorage with multi-bracket appliances is commonly used but sometimes it causes unwanted movements of adjacent teeth. Skeletal anchorage devices are therefore considered to minimize such side effects. Still their survival rate and positioning are highly limited according to the bone density and the interradicular space. This case report presents a case of two impacted teeth, one of which is dilacerated and horizontally angulated. Using the microplate with short screws and a bendable neck, negative effects on adjacent teeth were minimized and impacted teeth were repositioned with good stability.
Anterior open bite and transverse discrepancy are often accompanied by hyperdivergent skeletal patterns. In addition, degenerative joint disorders and vertical maxillary excess contribute to an unfavorable convex facial profile with a retruded chin. Correction of this complex three-dimensional problem with orthodontic treatment alone is considered challenging owing to anatomical limitations. Moreover, a history of orthodontic treatment with premolar extraction makes retreatment difficult. This case report illustrates the application of a maxillary tissue bone-borne expander and biocreative reverse curve system in a 23-year-old female patient with a severe anterior open bite and transverse discrepancy who underwent orthodontic treatment with four premolar extractions. By setting the treatment target under precise diagnosis and using appropriate appliances, a satisfactory treatment result could be achieved without orthognathic surgery.
