The present paper describes 4 clinical cases of Hellman dental age III A group of functional Class III malocclusion in which the horsehoe appliance was applied to obtain normal anteroposterior relationship between jaws. What is the most noteworthy in the result from the use of this appliance is that minimum down and backward rotation during backward repositioning of the mandible is noticed and the excellent retentive property in itself makers allowance for effective orthopedic correction in mixed dentition with anterior crossbite.
Pain and pain management have long been items of central concern in dentistry. Although they are given little attention in orthodontics, virtually every patient wearing orthodontic appliances experiences and complains of some extent of pain, and someones have suffered from severe throbbing pain. A form of stimulation-produced analgesia, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive, non-pharmacologic pain control techniques. The clinical application of TENS to orthodontic patients may lead to better patient compliance. And I want to discuss some basic knowledge of this TENS.
Inverted maxillary incisor is that maxillary incisor rotates to the counterclockwise direction. The incisal margin and root apex of the impacted incisor is palpated at the mucobuccal fold near the labial frenum and on the palate among the rugae, respectively. Orthodontists confront ectopically erupting teeth in various locations. In the past, extraction of impacted teeth that deviated from their normal course of eruption had been performed indiscriminately. But, if it has not any clearcut contraindications, effeort should be made to achieve optimal esthetic results by conservative means, combining the skills of oral surgeon and orthodontist. The present report provides an illustration of satisfactory correction of a inverted maxillary incisor with surgical intervention and many springs that correct the tooth axis. This technique provides the clinician with an additional means to avoid unnecessary extraction of inverted teeth in certain cases.
In this report, we present the case of a girl with delayed odontogenesis of a lower second premolar for which she was followed up for 8.5 years. Congenital absence of permanent mandibular second premolars was observed at the initial radiographic examination at 8 years and 1 month. One year later, during the treatment period, an unexpected odontogenesis of a right second premolar was diagnosed on follow-up radiography. The original treatment plan was revised and a new plan was successfully implemented. This unusual case showed that the orthodontist's clinical philosophy must be flexible because unexpected situations can arise, especially when treating growing patients.

The case unveils an early orthodontic intervention on 3-week old infant innately with bilateral cleft lip and palate. Presurgical Nasoalveolar Molding(PNAM) procedures were carried out for 2 months for the sake to diminish the anticipated strain of postsurgical scar by means of the retraction of protruded premaxilla and the extension of collapsed columella. The gap on the alveolar cleft decreased by 2,5 mm, and the columella manifested 1. 5 mm increase of its length, which yielded the consequent downward and backward movement of premaxilla, and expected to bring down the technical complexity of primary lip surgery. PNAM with sophisticated technical procedures at an optimal timing disclosed the passive molding of the alveolar segments and the formation of nasolabial soft tissue integuments and permitted one-time primary lip surgery.
The prevalence of craniofacial cleft is reported to be 10-34 / 100,000 live birth of human. This case report describes the characteristics of the Tessier classification number 0, 5, 7, and 14 craniofacial cleft patients. Given the rarity and unique nature of the clinical expression of each of the craniofacial clefts, the treatment plans can not be standardized but must be based on the individual assessment of each case.
Anterior spacing is one of the interesting phenomena in clinical orthodontics and presents difficulties in determining the etiology and the retention method. Only through the careful examination can orthodontists reach the correct diagnosis and treatment plan and every orthodontist should get rid of the cause to obtain good results. The author considered about the treatment and the retention method of the anterior spacing according to etiology and presented two eases of anterior spacing. In the first ease, the etiology was simple arch length discrepancy with excessively protruded anteriors. In the second ease, the etiology was the same as the above but the patient had the tongue thrusting habit. Both the eases showed the thin fibrous tissue bands between the upper central incisors but only the second case was thought to be associated with this tissue. The permanent retention loop which is non-surgical was applied to the ease and the results were acceptable.
The prevalence of normal occlusion and malocclusion was assessed by Angle's Classification method for 8989 school students at 7-22 years in Seoul. The occurrence of malocclusion and the need-for orthodontic treatment was 61 per cent among them. Results indicated no significant differences between the sexes for the occlusal relationships of the mandible to the maxille. The prevalence of Class I, Class II, and Class III malocclusion in all malocclusion was shown to be Class I, 45.7 per cent; Class II, 7.6 per cent; and Class III, 7.9 per cent. Class II Division 1 was observed to occur four times frequently compared to Class II Division 2 in Class II malocclusions. Class III malocclusion was shown to occur more frequently compared that of Caucasians.
This is case report of true class III malocclusion with macroglossia is corrected by glossectomy in 13 years female patient. After orthodontic treatment, the patient is bound to glossectomy because the corrected condition is relapsed to the previous condition due to relatively enlarged tongue compared with the original dental arch. By the interpretation of the cephalogram and model analysis, it is approved that the growth pattern and direction are normal range and mandible is located anterioly to the cranium. The results are follows: 1. We could treat the true Cl III malocclusion. 2. We could prevent the relapse of the treated condition by the surgical intervention, such as partial glossectomy. 3. Sensory, speech, swallowing and so other functions after the operation have been with in normal limit without any serious complications or seguellae.
The committee of admitted doctors developed a questionnaire regarding medical dispute and distributed it to 1,600 members of Korean Academy of Orthodontics. The questionnaire consisted of three categories and 56 items covering basic information about the doctors and patients who had experienced medical disputes, the cause and workaround of medical accidents, and methods for taking precautions. The present survey showed a similar proportion of responders who had experienced a medical accident compared to the study in 1997. The primary reason for medical disputes was dissatisfaction with appearance. Many doctors felt that they would likely experience a medical dispute at some point. Most disputes were settled by doctors themselves, usually for an amount of less than 5 million Korean won. For some doctors, medical accidents lead to ongoing psychological problems. Responders felt that continuing education for medical dispute is very necessary. These results reveal a need for the association of orthodontists to lead advancements in education and countermeasures for preventing and managing medical accidents and disputes.
