This paper presents some proposed methods for discontinuum analysis with rock discontinuities data acquisited in tunnel design stage. The limit equilibrium method for rock block sliding and falling proposed in this paper can consider the tunnel excavation and support stage, and, to the extent, the standard deviations and means of joint set orientation. Simple Distinct Elemet modelling methods are recommended in estimating the stability of tunnels in jointed rock masses. Because, the simple models are likely to show more consistent and clear than very complex model with finite joint length and joint deviation parameters.
In this study, scaled model tests were performed to investigate the deformation behaviors around tunnels located in anisotropic rocks. Fifteen types of test models which had respectively different joint angles and rock pressure conditions were made, where the modelling materials were the mixture of sand, plaster and water. All of the tested models showed the shear failure mechanism at the stress-concentrated regions and sliding phenomena according to the joint planes. The direction of joint inclination turned out to have great effect on the tunnel deformation behaviors. The models of joint inclination less than $30^{\circ}$ showed considerable floor heavings. The model of $50^{\circ}$ joint inclination showed the least tunnel convergence among the tested models regardless of rock pressure condition, so that it was thought as the most stable model. Furthermore, the failure mechanisms and deformation behaviors of tunnel models were strongly dependent on the coefficient of rock pressure.

In this paper, the interaction between notch and micro pore under uniaxial compression has been performed experimentally and numerically. Firstly calibration of PFC2D was performed using Brazilian tensile strength, uniaxial tensile strength and biaxial tensile strength. Secondly uniaxial compression test consisting internal notch and micro pore was performed experimentally and numerically. 9 models consisting notch and micro pore were built, experimentally and numerically. Dimension of these models are 10 cm*1 cm*5 cm. the length of joint is 2 cm. the angularities of joint are $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$. For each joint angularity, micro pore was situated 2 cm above the lower tip of the joint, 2 cm above the middle of the joint and 2 cm above the upper of the joint, separately. Dimension of numerical models are 5.4 cm*10.8 cm. The size of the cracks was 2 cm and its orientation was $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$. Diameter of pore was 1cm which situated at the upper of the notch i.e., 2 cm above the upper notch tip, 2 cm above the middle of the notch and 2 cm above the lower of the notch tip. The results show that failure pattern was affected by notch orientation and pore position while uniaxial compressive strength is affected by failure pattern.
Single crystallization behavior ad high temperature tensile properties of TLP bonded joints of Ni-base single crystal superalloy, CMSX-2 were investigated using MBF-80 and F-24 insert metals. CMSX-2 was bonded at 1523~1548K for 1.5~1.8ks in vacuum. The (100) orientation of bonded specimen was aligned perpendicular to the joint interface. Crystallographic orientation analyzed points over the bonded region possessed the almost same orientation across the joint interface and misorientation $\Delta^{\theta}$ was negligibly small in as-bonded and post-bond heat-treated situations. It was confirmed that single crystallization could be readily achieved during TLP bonding. The tensile strengths of all joints at elevated temperatures were equal to or greater than those of base metal the range of testing temperature between 923K and 1173K. The elongation and reduction of area in values were almost the same as those of base metal. SEM observation of the fracture surfaces of joints after tensile test revealed that the fracture surface indicated the similar morphologies each other, and that the fracture of joints occurred in the base metal in any cases.
This paper describes a series of laboratory tests carried out to evaluate the influence of bed joint orientation on interlocking grouted stabilised mud-flyash brick masonry under uniaxial cyclic compressive loading. Five cases of loading at $0^{\circ}$, $22.5^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $67.5^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ with the bed joints were considered. The brick units and masonry system developed by Prof. S.N. Sinha were used in present investigation. Eighteen specimens of size $500mm{\times}100mm{\times}700mm$ and twenty seven specimens of size $500mm{\times}100mm{\times}500mm$ were tested. The envelope stress-strain curve, common point curve and stability point curve were established for all five cases of loading with respect to bed joints. A general analytical expression is proposed for these curves which fit reasonably well with the experimental data. Also, the stability point curve has been used to define the permissible stress level in the brick masonry.

Stereographic method is a general and basic method to analyse sliding failure potential of rock slope. Region of failure analysis using stereographic method extend to curved slope from straight slope in this paper, Curved slope is defined as the multi-face slope with free surface more than two face and has different characteristics from straight single face slope. Individual daylight envelopes of free surfaces are combined into total daylight envelope of multi-face slope. So, sliding envelope of multi-face slope is the daylight envelope except friction cone. Specially, If only single joint set is developed in the slope, single plane sliding(or plane failure) is impossible in the single-face straight slope, but possible in the multi-face slope. In the multi-face slope with only one joint set, single plane sliding occurs when orientation of sliding plane is between two side slope orientation in the sliding envelope.
This paper proposes a low-cost robotic surgery system composed of a general purpose robotic arm, an interface for daVinci surgical robot tools and a modular haptic controller utilizing smart actuators. The 7 degree of freedom (DOF) haptic controller is suspended in the air using the gravity compensation, and the 3D position and orientation of the controller endpoint is calculated from the joint readings and the forward kinematics of the haptic controller. Then the joint angles for a general purpose robotic arm is calculated using the analytic inverse kinematics so that that the tooltip reaches the target position through a small incision. Finally, the surgical tool wrist joints angles are calculated to make the tooltip correctly face the desired orientation. The suggested system is implemented and validated using the physical UR5e robotic arm.

An error analysis is very important for a precision machine tool to estimate its performance. This study proposes a new parallel device, a cubic parallel manipulator. Errors of the proposed cubic parallel manipulator include universal joint errors, errors occurring due to changes in the fore directions in the links, and actuation errors. An error analysis is performed for the manipulator platform moving at uniform velocity. The analysis shows how the position and orientation of the platform influences the directional link forces that change the errors in the manipulator. The analysis shows that the method can be used in predicting the accuracy of parallel devices.
In this study, a numerical experiment related to the stress-strain analysis was performed on 3-D discrete fracture network(DFN) systems based on the distinct element method to evaluate the effect of joint geometry on deformability of jointed rock masses. Using one or two joint sets with deterministic orientation, a total of 12 3-D DFN blocks having 10m cube domain were generated with different joint density and size distribution. Directional deformation modulus of the DFN cube blocks were estimated along the axis directions of 3-D cartesian coordinate. In addition, deviatoric stress directions were chosen at every 30° of trend and plunge in 3-D for some DFN blocks to examine the variability of directional deformation modulus with respect to joint geometry. The directional deformation modulus of the DFN block were found to reduce with the increase of joint size distribution. The increase in joint density was less likely to have a significant effect on directional deformation modulus of the DFN block in case of the effect of rock bridges was relatively large because of short joint size distribution. It, however, was evaluated that the longer the joint size, the increase in the joint density had a more significant effect on the anisotropic deformation modulus of the DFN block. The variation of the anisotropic deformation modulus according to the variations in joint density and size distribution was highly dependent on the number of joint sets and their orientation in the DFN block. Finally, this study addressed a numerical procedure for stress-strain analysis of jointed rock masses considering joint geometry and discussed a methodology for practical application at the field scale.

A 5-axis CNC machine tool is more useful compared with a 3-axis machine tool, because the position and the orientation of a tool tip can be controlled simultaneously. Unlike the 3-axis machine tool, the 5-axis machine tool has the volumetric position error and volumetric orientation error due to the quasi-static error of each machine tool joint which is a major source of machined part error. So, the generalized error synthesis model of the 5-axis CNC machine tool was developed to predict and to compensate for the volumetric position error and the volumetric orientation error. It was proposed that a compensation algorithm to correct simultaneously the volumetric position error and the volumetric orientation error of the 5-axis CNC machine by error inverse kinematic.
