Stretchable and Foldable Electronics by Use of Printable Single-Crystal Silicon

  • Realization of electronics with performance equal to established technologies that use rigid semiconductor wafers, but in lightweight, foldable and stretchable formats would enable many new application possibilities. Examples include wearable systems for personal health monitoring, 'smart' surgical gloves with integrated electronics and electronic eye type imagers that incorporate focal plane arrays on hemispherical substrates. Circuits that use organic or certain classes of inorganic electronic materials on plastic or steel foil substrates can provide some degree of mechanical flexibility, but they cannot be folded or stretched. Also, with few exceptions such systems offer only modest electrical performance. In this talk, I will present a new approach to high performance, flexible and stretchable integrated circuits. These systems combine single-crystal silicon nanoribbons with thin plastic or elastomeric substrates using both "top-down" and "transfer-printing" technologies. The strategies represent promising routes to high performance, flexible and stretchable optoelectronic devices that can incorporate established, high performance inorganic electronic materials.

  • The donor-${\pi}$-acceptor (D-${\pi}$-A) chromophoric dye system has received great attention in variety fields such as electroluminescent materials, sensors and optoelectronic devices. There are many research activities focused on the development for abovementioned application materials with the high-performance properties. In the previous work, we are reported that novel D-${\pi}$-A dye, 2-[4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzylidene]-2,3-dihydroinden-1-one, is successfully attained and exhibited a positive fluorescence solvatochromism. In this work, the molecular structure and packing geometry of 2-[4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzylidene]-2,3-dihydroinden-1-one was discussed by their conformational structure. Their single yellow prism crystal having approximate dimensions of $0.30{\times}0.10{\times}0.10$ mm was carried out with a Rigaku RAXIS RAPID imaging plate area detector with graphite monochromated $CuK_{\alpha}$ radiation. Their crystal structure were solved by using the CrystalStructure crystallographic software package.

Synthesis, Structures and Properties of Two Metal-organic Frameworks Derived from 3-Nitro-1,2-benzenedicarboxylic Acid

  • Two metal-organic frameworks based on the connectivity co-effect between rigid benzenedicarboxylic acid and bridging ligand have been synthesized $[Zn_2(3-NO_2-bdc)_2(4,4'-bpy)_2H_2O]_n$ (1), $[Co(3-NO_2-bdc)(4,4'-bpy)H_2O]_n$ (2) (where $3-NO_2-bdcH_2$ = 3-nitro-1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 4,4'-bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine). The two novel complexes were characterized by IR spectrum, elemental analysis, fluorescent properties, thermogravimetric analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). X-ray structure analysis reveals that 1 and 2 are two-dimensional (2D) network structures. Complex 1 and complex 2 belong to triclinic crystal with P-1 space group. The luminescence measurements reveal that two complexes exhibit good fluorescent emissions in the solid state at room temperature. Also, thermal decomposition process and powder X-ray diffraction of complexes were investigated.

Chemical Vapor Deposition of β-LiGaO2 Films on Si(100) Using a Novel Single Precursor

  • $LiGaO_2$ films have been grown on Si (100) substrates using a new single precursor $[Li(OCH_2CH_2OCH_3)_2-Ga(CH_3)_2]_2$ under high vacuum conditions $(5{\times}10^{-6}Torr)$. The $[Li(OCH_2CH_2OCH_3)_2Ga(CH_3)_2]_2$ was synthe-sized and characterized by using spectroscopic methods and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The chemical composition, crystalline structure, and morphology of the deposited films were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that polycrystalline $LiGaO_2$ films preferentially oriented in the [010] direction can be deposited on Si (100) at 500-550$^{\circ}C$ by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The single precursor $[LiOCH_2CH_2OCH_3)_2-Ga(CH_3)_2]_2$ has been found suitable for chemical vapor deposition of $LiGaO_2$ thin films on Si substrates.

GaN epitaxial growths on chemically and mechanically polished sapphire wafers grown by Bridgeman method (수평 Bridgeman법으로 성장된 사파이어기판 가공 및 GaN 박막성장)

  • The fabrication of sapphire wafer in C plane has been developed by horizontal Bridgeman method and GaN based semiconductor epitaxial growth has been carried out in metal organic chemical vapour deposition. The single crystalline ingot of sapphire has been utilized for 2 inch sapphire wafers and wafer slicing and lapping machines were designed. These several steps of lapping processes provided the mirror-like surface of sapphire wafer. The measurements of the surface flatness and the roughness were carried out by the atomic force microscope. The GaN thin film growth on the developed wafer was confirmed the wafer quality and applicability to blue light emitting devices.

  • Three new quaternary tantalum thiophosphates, $K_{0.18}TaPS_6,\;K_{0.28}TaPS_6,\;and\;Rb_{0.09}TaPS_6$ have been synthesized by using reactive alkali metal halide fluxes and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The crystal structures of $K_{0.18}TaPS_6,\;K_{0.28}TaPS_6,\;and\;Rb_{0.09}TaPS_6$ contain 3-dimensional open framework anions, $[TaPS_6]^{x-}$(x = 0.09, 0.18, 0.28) with the empty channel which disordered alkali metal cations, $K^+\;and\;Rb^+$ are located in. Crystal data: $K_{0.18}TaPS_6$, tetragonal, space group$I4_1$/acd (no. 142), a=15.874(3) $\AA$, c=13.146(4) $\AA$, V=3312.7(12) ${\AA}^3$, K, Z=16, R1=0.0545. Crystal data: $K_{0.28}TaPS_6$, tetragonal, space group $I4_1$/acd (no. 142), a=15.880(2) $\AA$, c=13.134(3) $\AA$, V=3312.1(10) ${\AA}^3$, Z=16, R1=0.0562. Crystal data: $Rb_{0.09}TaPS_6$, tetragonal, space group I41/acd (no. 142), a=15.893(3) $\AA$, c=13.163(4) $\AA$, V=3324.7(15) ${\AA}^3$, Z=16, R1=0.0432.

A study on crystal growth and properties of high quality DAST (고품질 DAST 결정성장과 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we have investigated the development of the crystal growth stability and reproducibility for large and high-quality DAST. DAST crystal were grown from a saturated methanol solution by a slow cooling method and DAST was synthesized by the condensation of 4-methyl-n-methyl pyridinum tosylate, which was prepared from 4-pocoline and methyl toluenesulponate and 4-N-dimethyl amino-bezaldehyde in the presence of piperidine. We had synthesized DAST crystals in dry Argon atmosphere in order to avoid the formation of hydride organge co-crystals, DAST$.$$H_2O$. Since DAST molecules crystallize in a humid atmosphere, crystal structure become centrosymmetric, and then second order NLO (nonlinear optical) properties would be disappeared. We fixed the growth orientation of DAST crystal (001) surface. The crystal growth was proceeded at a cooling rate of $H_2O$/day and the cooling period is for 4 days. The dimensions of seed crystal was $2.5\times 3.6\times0.4\textrm{mm}^3$ and we have obtained a DAST crystal with the dimension of $10\times 10.5\times3.0\textrm{mm}^3$. The color of grown DAST crystal is red and it's surface appears to be metallic green.

New MOD solution for the preparation of high $J_c$ REBCO superconducting films (고특성 REBCO 초전도 박막 제조를 위한 새로운 MOD 전구 용액 제조)

  • Various organic acid were used in order to prepare new metalorganic deposition solution for high quality $REBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (RE=Y, Eu, Gd) films. Prepared fluorine free MO precursor solution was coated on single crystal (001) $LaAlO_3$ (LAO) by dip coating method. Processing parameters such as oxygen partial pressure, water vapor, ramping rate and pyrolysis temperature etc havebeen controlled in order to make high $J_c$ films with a good epitaxial relationship with substrate. 0.5 micron-thick film was obtained by single coating and no crack appeared after calcination. Oxygen partial pressure was varied in the range of $100{\sim}1,000 ppm$ and conversion heat treatment was carried out at the temperature of $725{\sim}765^{\circ}C$. A critical transition temperature $(T_{c0})$ of 90K and a critical transport current density $(J_c)$ of $>0.5MA/cm^2$ (77K and self-field) were demonstrated for the YBCO film on (001) oriented LAO substrates with a thickness of 0.5 micron. $I_c$ was determined by utilizing a transport measurement. SEM and XRD investigations confirmed that films were grown epitaxially onto the LAO single crystal substrate. It is thought that fluorine free new MOD solutionis promising for high quality REBCO films.

Crystal and Molecular Structure of Methyl 12-(3-bromophenyl)-9-[(4-methylbenzene)sulfonyl]-22-oxo-13,21-dioxa-9-azapentacyclo[12.8.0.02,11.03,8.015,20]docosa-1(14),3,5,7,15(20),16,18-heptaene-11-carboxylate

  • The crystal structure of the title compounds with both coumarin and sulfonamide moieties were examined. These two groups have very special for their pharmaceutical and medicinal properties have been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. In the title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with unit cell dimension a = 28.633(3) ${\AA}$, b= 9.3215(7) ${\AA}$ and c= 24.590(2) ${\AA}$ [alpha & gamma=$90^{\circ}$ beta= $115.976(3)^{\circ}$]. In the structure The S1 atom shows a distorted tetrahedral geometry, with O1-S1-O2 [119.74 $(2)^{\circ}$] and N1-S1-C5 [$105.57(1)^{\circ}$] angles deviating from ideal tetrahedral values are attributed to the Thrope-Ingold effect. The sum of bond angles around N1 ($316.2(1)^{\circ}$) indicates that N1 is in sp2 hybridization. The Pyridine ring adopts boat conformation and pyran rings adopt a sofa conformation. The carboxylate group of atoms were disordered over two positions with site occupancy factors 0.598 (9):0.402 (9). Crystal structure and packing is stabilized by $C-H{\ldots}O$ intra and inter molecular hydrogen bond interactions.

Diastereoselective Reduction of 2,3-Dioxo-4-carboxy-5-substituted Pyrrolidines Using NaBH4/AcOH and Heterogenous Hydrogenation Reactions

  • Diastereoselective reduction of 2,3-dioxo-4-carboxy-5-(substituted)pyrrolidine 1 by $NaBH_4/AcOH$ and heterogenous hydrogenation were reported. Stereochemical assignment and diastereomeric ratios of the products were determined using $^1H$ NMR and single crystal X-ray analyses. The steric factors of the C-5 substituents of the pyrrolidinone was shown to have an interesting influence on both the yield and diastereoselectivity of the reduced product.
