Porous $Co_3O_4$ spheres with bimodal pore distribution (size: 2-3 nm and ~ 30 nm) were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis of aqueous droplets containing Co-acetate and polyethylene glycol (PEG), while dense $Co_3O_4$ secondary particles with monomodal pore distribution (size: 2-3 nm) were prepared from the spray solution without PEG. The formation of mesopores (~ 30 nm) was attributed to the decomposition of PEG. The responses of a porous $Co_3O_4$ sensor to various indoor air pollutants such as 5 ppm $C_2H_5OH$, xylene, toluene, benzene, and HCHO at $200^{\circ}C$ were found to be significantly higher than those of a commercial sensor using $Co_3O_4$ and dense $Co_3O_4$ secondary particles. Enhanced gas response of porous $Co_3O_4$ sensor was attributed to high surface area and the effective diffusion of analyte gas through mesopores (~ 30 nm). Highly sensitive porous $Co_3O_4$ sensor can be used to monitor various indoor air pollutants.

Chromatographic separation of the stem bark extract of Mitragyna stipulosa afforded triterpene derivatives ursolic acid (1), quinovic acid (2), quinivic acid $3-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ (3, quinovin glycoside C), quinovic acid 3-O-[$(2-O-sulfo)-{\beta}-D-quinovopyranoside$] (4, zygophyloside D) and quinovic acid $3-O-{\beta}-D-quinovopyranosyl-27-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyranosyl$ ester (5, zygophyloside B). These five compounds were subjected to the cytotoxicity on MTT assay system. Compound 1 among tested showed the most potent cytotoxicity. Quinovic acid showed less potent cytotoxicity than ursolic acid and sugar linkages to 2 decreased the cytotoxicity. Compound 4 more potent than 3 with indicate that the sulfonyl group significantly enhances the activity. This indicates that the glycosidic linkage in ursane-type triterpenoids has mainly negative effect on cytotoxicity unlike in oleanane-type glycosides.
This study has been numerically conducted to investigate the removal efficiency of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) for different photocatalytic honeycomb filters. Recently, the photocatalysis is being applied to air-cleaner, air-conditioner and vacuum-cleaner with the capability of air-purification, sterilization and antibiosis. However, photocatalysis is less efficient than other methods for removing VOC except in the case of low concentration. So far most of studies have focused on an improvement of the photocatalytic materials, but this study have placed emphasis on the improvements of shape of photocatalytic honeycomb filter. UV irradiation, concentration profile and pressure drop have been investigated for different cross sections of filters and for different filter lengths. Light intensity is dropped sharply with increasing distance from the UV-lamp, and becomes very low in the middle of the filters. Since photocatalytic reaction rate is a function of light intensity, VOC concentration gradient might be small in the middle of long filters. Thus, most of reaction have risen within only three times of dimensionless axial distance. These results can be used effectively for the design of advanced photocatalytic honeycomb filters.
Field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of stalk position, compound fertilizer application rate (N-P2O5-K2O : 10-10-20 : 75, 100, 125kg/03), paddy and upland soil and varieties, NC82 &KF103, on nonvolatile organic and higher fatty acids of flue-cured tobacco. Followed by stalk position, malic, citric, malonic and succinic acid contents were significantly increased with higher stalk position, but oleic and linoleic acid contents were decreased with higher stalk position. The higher application rate of compound fertilizer results in increasing citric, malic, malonic and succinic acid contents, but the contents of higher fatty acids were not significantly influenced by fertilizer application rate. The cured leaf cultivated in paddy soil was higher citric and malic acid contents than in upland soil, but the contents of higher fatty acids have no difference between paddy and upland soil. The variety of KF103 was higher citric and linoleic acid contents than that of NC82, but the contents of higher fatty acids have no difference between varieties.
In order to treat the wastewater containing organic compound, pre-treatment system connected with MSP(molecular separation process) was investigated. With the aim of selecting an optimum process of Fenton's oxidation, removal efficiency of each process in the optimum reaction condition was recommended. The $Fe/H_{2}O_{2}$(ferric sulfate to hydrogen peroxide)reagent is referred to as the Fenton's regent, which produces hydroxyl radicals by the interaction of Fe with $H_{2}O_{2}$. The powerful oxidizing ability and extreme kinetic reactively of the hydroxyl radical was well established. Increasing dosage of $Fe/H_{2}O_{2}$ increased removal efficiency as molar ratio of $Fe/H_{2}O_{2}$ between 0.2 and 2.5. Optimum dosage of molar ratio was 1. The removal efficiency for reaction condition was increased as pH decreased when the molar ratio of $Fe/H_{2}O_{2}$ was 1.7. Fenton's oxidation was most efficient in the reaction time 35 min for complex wastewater. Also, coagulation aid experiments using kaolin resulted in 3% of kaolin dosage.
Triterpenoids, ursolic acid (1) and 23-hydroxyursolic acid (2) were obtained from the hydrolysis of BuOH fraction of Cussonia bancoensis extract to test anti nociceptive and anti-inflammatory effect of C. bancoensis (Araliaceae). Compound 1 and 2 exhibited anti-nociceptive effects, which were determined by acetic acid-induced writhing test and hot plate test. The effect of 2 was much more potent in acetic acid-induced writhing test than in hot plate test. Compound 1 and 2 significantly inhibited 1%-carrageenan-induced edema in the rat. These results suggest that the two triterpenes, ursolic acid and 23-hydroxyursolic acid, are responsible for the antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effect of C. bancoesnsis.
This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of Modified Ludzsck Etinger (MLE) process with waste oyster shell media in aerobic tank. Influent flow was 36 L/d and the order of reactor was anoxic, aerobic and sedimentation tank and unit hydraulic retention time was 2 hr, 6 hr and 4 hr, respectively. Sludge recycling rate in sedimentation tank and internal recycling rate were 100%. Media fill rate in aerobic tank was 5%, 10% and 17% and fluid MLSS concentration in aerobic tank was 3000~4000 mg/L. Average TCOD removal rate was 91~93%, TBOD 92~96%, SS 95~96% and when media fill rate was 10% or more, in organic compound removal it could satisfy with wastewater discharge standard. Average total nitrogen removal rate was 70~76% and average total phosphorous removal rate was 58~65%. With media fill rate increasing, total phosphorous average removal rate also increased. For it was that released calcium ion from waste oyster shell reacted with soluble phosphorous. From these experiment results, the MLE process using waste oyster shell as media is a practical method for advanced sewage treatment in rural area.
Fireproofing polyolefin nanocomposite for the application of power distributing panel was prepared by compounding linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE), decabromodiphenyl oxide (DBDPO), $Sb_2O_3$ as flame retardant agents, and modified nano clay as filler. The optimized formulation ratio of compounds to prepare the fireproofing polyolefin nanocomposite was obtained. The flame retardant properties for nanocomposite prepared by compounding 22.5 phr of nano clay and 18 phr of DBDPO based on 100 phr of LLDPE were shown that the combustion time. 10${\sim}$18 s, combustion distance, 12${\sim}$15 mm and non-melt dropping characteristics. In particular. the content of DBDPO in nanocomposite could be decreased to 18 phr from 40 phr DBDPO for fireproofing composite containing 30 phr of clay. The electrical properties measured from tracking test, had an excellent antitracking properties by not showing the phenomenon of leakage current and sparking.
2-Thiouracil-5-sulphonic acid N-(4-acetylphenyl) Amide (1) was reacted with a series of aromatic aldehydes giving chalcones 2 (Claisen-Schemidt reaction), some of these chalcones were reacted with urea and thiourea giving pyrimidine-2-one and pyrimidine-2 thione derivatives respectively of the type 3a,b and 4a,b. In addition many chalcones were reacted with hydroxylamine hydrochloride giving isoxazoline derivatives 5a,b. They could also reacted with phenylhydrazine to give pyrazoline derivatives 5a,b, chalcones also were reacted withethylcyano acetate and/or malononitryl in pyridine giving pyran derivatives 7a,c and 8a,c. In another pathway chalcones were epoxidised by $H_{2}O_{2}$ giving epoxides 9a,c which in turn were reacted with phenylhydrazine giving 4-hydroxypyrazoline derivatives 10a,c. In another reaction chalcones were reacted with ethylcyanoacetate in presence of amm.acetate giving pyridone derivatives 11a,d which could be prepared also in exellent yield from compound 1 by its reaction with certain aromatic aldehydes and ethylcyanoacetate in presence of ammonium acetate. Finally, compound 1 was reacted with semicarbazide giving semicarbazone intermediate 12 which in turn was reacted with thionyl chloride giving thiadiazole derivative 13. The biological effects of some of the new synthesized compounds were also investigated.
