In the hierarchical universe, galaxy merger is predicted to be frequent, and thus it is an important element for understanding galaxy evolution. In particular, star formation is greatly enhanced during the merger. The aim of this study is to understand the position and rate change of star formation caused by equal-mass edge-on mergers. We use the GADGET2- N-body/SPH code, and fully consider gas cooling, star formation, and supernova feedback. We show the star formation rate (SFR), and the magnitude and color evolution of the merger remnants for 18 different configurations varying orbit elements and inclinations of host galaxies against orbit planes. Then we construct the mock images of the remnants and investigate on how equal-mass galaxy merger affects the SFR and color/magnitude evolution while considering dust reddening. We conclude that over 90% mass of SF in equal-mass merger is in the central region. SF in tidal feature involves a small fraction of new stars and thus is difficult to detect unless deep imaging is performed. Around 55 ${\pm}$ 5 percent of gas turns into stars until the final coalescence which typically corresponds to 0.8, 1.2, and 2.5 Gyr for direct, parabolic, and elliptical orbit, respectively. This result is roughly consistent with Cox et al. 2000. We plan to implement this result into semi-analytic model of galaxy formation. Caveats and future work on merging conditions are discussed.
A program for LAE (liquid Apogee Engine) firing strategy calculation was developed. This program can be used as the first stage of transfer orbit analysis, which process receives input parameters as like initial orbit elements, ground TT&C stations positions, satellite performances and makes firing user-selectable strategies. The developed program is dedicated to GEO satellites which using LAE generally and it can calculate six back-up strategies and deals situation its maximum firing number is six. The MS-EXCEL software was used for the input and output process. And the numerical calculation part was embodied with MATLAB functions.

Even though there are next generation Global Navigation Systems in development, only GPS and GLONASS are currently available for satellite positioning. In this study, GLONASS orbits were predicted using Keplerian elements in almanac and the orbit equation. For accuracy validation, predicted orbits were compared with precise ephemeris. As a result, the 3-D maximum and RMS (Root Mean Square) errors were 155.4 km and 56.3 km for 7-day predictions. Also, the GLONASS satellite visibility predictions were compared with real observations, and they agree perfectly except for several epochs when the satellite signal was blocked nearby buildings.
As an extension to the Kramers' restricted Hartree-Fock (KRHF) method [J. Comp. Chem., 13, 595 (1992)], we have implemented the Kramers' restricted configuration interaction (KRCI) program in order to calculate excited states as well as the ground state of polyatomic molecules containing heavy atoms. This KRCI is based on determinants composed of the two-component molecular spinors which are generated from KRHF calculations. The Hamiltonian employed in the KRHF and KRCI methods contains most of all the important relativistic effects including spin-orbit terms through the use of relativistic effective core potentials (REP). The present program which is limited to a small configuration space has been tested for a few atoms and molecules. Excitation energies of the group 14 and 16 elements calculated using the present KRCI program are in good accordance with the spectroscopic data. Calculated excitation energies for many Rydberg states of K and Cs indicate that spin-orbit terms in the REP, which are derived for the ground state, are also reliable for the description of highly excited states. The electronic states of the polyatomic molecule CH3I are probed from the molecular region to the dissociation limit. Test calculations demonstrate that the present KRCI is a useful method for the description of potential energy surface of polyatomic molecules containing heavy atoms.
A preliminary thermal analysis is performed for the optical payload system of a geostationary satellite. The optical payload considered in this paper is GOCI(Geostationary Ocean Color Imager) of COMS of Korea. The radiative and conductive thermal models are employed in order to predict thermal responses of the GOCI on the geostationary orbit. The results of this analysis are as follows: 1) the GOCI instrument thermal control is satisfactory to provide the temperatures for the GOCI performances, 2) the thermal control is defined and interfaces are validated, and 3) the entrance baffle temperature and shutter wheel motor gradient are found slightly out their specification, therefore further detailed analyses should be continued on these elements.

Benign triton tumor (BTT) or neuromuscular hamartoma is an uncommon tumor composed of mature neural and well-differentiated striated muscular elements. Its development is exceptionally rare in the adult and head region. This report describes a case of adulthood BTT that occurred in the orbit. The patient was a 53-year-old woman who presented with right periorbital swelling and pain in eyeball over 2 months. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well-enhancing mass surrounding optic nerve and ocular muscles in the right retrobulbar area. The tumor was subtotally removed via transcranial approach. Its pathological diagnosis was confirmed to be a neuromuscular hamartoma. She developed diplopia postoperatively. Adulthood BTT should be considered in the differential diagnosis of head and neck tumors. It is also important to make adequate therapeutic strategy to avoid postoperative neural dysfunction.
A planet revolving around binary star system is a familiar system. Studies of these systems are important because they provide precise knowledge of planet formation and orbit evolution. In this study, a method to determine the evolution of an exoplanet revolving around a binary star system using different rates of stellar mass loss will be introduced. Using a hierarchical triple body system, in which the outer body can be moved with the center of mass of the inner binary star as a two-body problem, the long period evolution of the exoplanet orbit is determined depending on a Hamiltonian formulation. The model is simulated by numerical integrations of the Hamiltonian equations for the system over a long time. As a conclusion, the behavior of the planet orbital elements is quite affected by the rate of the mass loss from the accompanying binary star.

The photometric orbital elements of an Algol-type eclipsing variable, DI Pegasi, are derived by means of Fourier transforms from two-color photoelectric observations. The system shows a long term variation of its orbital period, which is interpreted as due to a continuing mass loss mechanism from the secondary component. Physical dimensions and a model of the system are also suggested here.
Using a directional antenna, the Doppler effect of satellites can be detected and the orbital elements can be obtained by the Extended Kalman Filter with the observed frequency shift data. We obtained the orbital elements of NOAA-11 by the application of the Extended Kalman Filter type algorithm to the Doppler shift data of NOAA-11d and discussed the accuracy and the credibility of this algorithm.
