This article intends to establish a online service of oral history archives. Unlike common records, it is important to understand the contextual relation of oral history archives. The context of oral history archives can include the context of oral history contents in addition to the connection with records produced in the process of performing work function of agency which performs collecting oral history archives, and the connection between oral history archives formed in the process of collecting oral history archives. Therefore this article emphasizes that the context of oral history archives has an important role and function in on-line service of oral history archives by researching the plan for on-line service of oral history archives based on the context of oral history archives.

This study is aimed to develop standard metadata model and develop elements and present the importance of oral history archives that contrast with literature history. The study analyzed standard metadata description elements that can express contents and forms of oral history archives as information. Furthermore, it designed Project, Management, Record, and metadata modeling as a Related record domain for the sake of building digital oral archives. Finally, the study gave shape to real oral history archives based on basic elements, details, and design principles of division elements.

An interest in various description of history was increased, resolutely breaking away from the existing frame also in a historical science world, under the influence of post-modernism arisen from the mid 20th century, and for this, oral history archives and oral history methodology began to attract the attention in various academia including archival science as a method for a new writing of history. Also, under the circumstance of korea having a difficulty in performing a whole reconstruction of modern age history and a liquidation of past affairs due to an absolute lack of archives, the tendency is toward more active management of oral history archives and establishing oral history archives in the context of an excavation of new archives and a reinterpretation of history, owing to the necessity in a particular situation. This article started with a critical mind regarding an absence of a collecting policy which can help an effective development of collection from a point of view of archival science, with regard to oral history archives that recently shows a rapid increase of an interest. For this, this article intended to present an new element of a collecting policy besides the study on a collecting policy performed meanwhile by an archival science world by noticing a characteristic and a collecting method of oral history archives, this can be examined largely through 'a statement of mission and collection purpose', 'a policy of collection at large', 'a definition of maintenance and use of the holdings', and 'a guide for a development of collection', and add a proposal regarding a plan to embody the parr which should be actually applied to collection of oral history archives among the existing constituents.

This study discussed on production, procedures of collection, accessibility, copyright of archival records for designing oral history archive information system, and aimed to suggest practical standards by developing guidelines for evaluation and building of web oral history archives. For this, based on evaluation framework, guidelines for evaluation designed by researchers were applied to five domestic and foreign web oral history archives as case study analysis. Base on the results of the analysis, some possible suggestions were made for building successful web oral history archive information system in Korea.

While academic discussions and methodological researches on oral history are being progressed in Korea, its exploitation has already begun to increase with a variety of methods and approaches in the private sector. Oral history is a new method of research, as well as another process of production of archives. In order to make valuable and highly qualified archives of oral history with the application of the aforementioned conditions and characteristics, its recognition, environment, process, and method should be improved and developed. From this point of view, it is regarded as reasonable that oral history is recognized as a part of the strategy for documentation. Oral history should be produced based on common sense and reasonable judgment, applying empirical know-how rather than logic or principles because it holds a great number of characteristics, which include variable elements in the field of oral history. In addition, its process or documentation methods should be improved and developed, giving consideration to thorough exploitation. The promotion or revitalization of oral history is a signal that announces the advent of new archives and the new subjects of history at the same time. Endeavors to produce highly efficient archives of oral history are expected to be continued with the complex accumulation of empirical assets achieved at academic discussions and its fields.

As research of oral history improved, not only public institutions but also private sectors actively collected and managed too. Despite these demands, however, there was not enough systematic analysis of systems targeted at oral archives. In this study, which started from this problem equation, the characteristics of oral archives and systems were analyzed and the institution that manages and serves current oral archives was selected to derive problems. It also analyzed the information required by the Presidential Archives, which collects oral archives but plans to build a system design. I will present suggestions for the establishment of a systematic oral archives management system focusing on problems and improvement measures that arise in the process.

This study aims to analyze the research trends of oral history research in Korea from 1991 to the present, and to provide basic data on the future direction of oral history research. For these purposes, 439 research articles of domestic oral history researchers from 1991 to 2018 were retrieved by keyword search from Research Information Sharing System (RISS) in Korean Education and Research Information Service (KERIS). The research trends of domestic oral history were analyzed by the volume of periodical research papers, major journals, authors and research funds, research fields and research contents, and international cooperation. Finally, based on the results of the study, the implications were summarized, and direction for follow-up research was provided.

Oral history research in Korea began with the effort to find out the truth behind the hidden historical issues that occurred during the mid-1980s. Since then, attempts to record the major issues through contemporary Korean history orally has increased. From the late 2000s, the focus shifted to local and smaller village units. In Busan, from 2009 to 2016, 33 oral history projects from 10 government agencies were conducted. This research was carried out to investigate what kind of oral records has been produced in Busan from the said period and how they are managed. With these findings, possible solutions to preserve and utilize the oral records as the locality archives are suggested.

Oral history research is carried out through collecting information about a living person. The data collected from an oral history project is not a mere fact or a mass of information but accounts of persons who reveal their own personalities. For this reason, oral history research and data collection and the use of such data must be based on rigorous ethical standards. The Bioethics and Safety Law shares a similar view on human subject research, and the Institutional Review Boards includes human subject research as a subject of review and management. However, the Bioethics and Safety Law's protection of personalities and human rights focuses on life sciences methodologies, which are not suitable for qualitative research, such as an oral history of a value oriented and critical approach to human beings. This study examines the details of the Bioethics and Safety Law related to human subject research and the problems that may arise when this law is applied to subjects in humanities and social sciences such as oral history. Through this study, alternative methodologies, which can be used for oral history research, while maintaining academic autonomy, are suggested.

This study develops a methodology for facet-based subject headings for the subject access to oral history records collected by such a project of the knit business in Haebangchon. First, the concept and characteristics of oral history records and their contents were investigated, and the meaning of facets and subject headings applied to such content was examined in the literature review. Second, the basic facets of oral history records were created based on 5W1H that reflected the narrative feature of oral history. Third, 540 subject-related terms were selected through an analysis of the transcript written based on oral history interviews with one interviewer and seven interviewees linked to the knit business in Haebangchon. Fourth and last, subject headings were proposed with the selected subject-related terms categorized in facets with various relationships. These facet-based subject headings will improve the subject access and use of oral history records.
