Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of oral health behavior factors to oral health promotion behavior in dental hygiene students and nonhealth-related majors, to identify factors affecting their oral health promotion behavior and ultimately to provide information on the oral health promotion of college students and behavioral factors related to that. Methods : The subjects in this study were three-year-course dental hygiene students and two-year-course nonhealth-related majors in G college located in the city of Gwangju. A self-administered survey was conducted for 11 days from September 9 to 19, 2009, and the answer sheets from 473 respondents were analyzed. To look for connections between their major and the characteristics of their oral health promotion behavior, t-test was utilized, and t-test and one-way ANOVA were carried out to find out the relationship oral health promotion behavior by general characteristics. Besides, multiple regression analysis was employed to grasp factors affecting oral health promotion behavior. Results : Among the subfactors of oral health promotion behavior, the dental hygiene students statistically significantly outdid the nonhealth-related majors in thorough post-meal toothbrushing(p<0.01), toothbrushing method(p<0.001), use of fluorine-containing dentifrice(p<0.001) and good nutrition(p<0.05). But the latter statistically significantly outperformed the former in use of fluorine-containing rinse(p<0.001) and limited sugar intake(0<0.05). Regarding variables affecting oral health promotion behavior, the age group, whether to get a dental checkup over the last year and whether to use oral hygiene supplies were identified as the variables to impact on oral health promotion behavior. Specifically, the age group(dental hygiene students) and the get a dental checkup over the last year(nonhealth-related majors) had a greater impact. Conclusions : To promote the oral health of college students, comprehensive oral health education should be provided, which covers the importance of dental checkup, recommendation for the use of oral hygiene supplies, etc. Specifically, oral health education should be offered as one of general education courses in order for nonhealth-related majors to get into sound life habits and improve their oral health promotion behavior. To make it happen, required institutional measures should be taken.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to compare the oral health related characteristics between a long-term patients and general population. Methods: A direct interview questionnaire was completed by 160 patients and 165 general people from January 16 to April 31, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, subjective health status, oral health behaviors, and needs of oral health. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The long-term patients reported that most of them were denture wearers(38.1%), and had oral disease symptoms(62.5%) and xerostomia(65.6%). Most of the long-term patients were ex-smoker(31.3%) and did not receive regular dental check-up(92.5%). They did not know tooth brushing method(31.3%) and brushed their teeth less than twice a day(47.5%). Those who used tooth brush for more than 6 months accounted for 47.5%. Most of them did not use auxiliary oral hygiene devices(85.6%). The patients answered that oral health is not important(6.9%), oral health education is not necessary(7.5%), and oral cleaning(26.3%) should be included in oral health education. Conclusions: The self-reported oral health status of the long-term patients much more serious than the general population. It is necessary to educate the continuing oral health management program for the long-term patients.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was related factors of oral health of scaling patients in dental hygiene department. Methods: The sample consisted of 218 at the scaling practice room of dental hygiene department in D College from March to November 2011. Chi-square test was used to analyze the relation the oral health behavior or oral hygiene and oral health, and losistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the factors asociated with oral health. Results: Scaling patients was 43.6% of the male and 56.4% of the women. Their age group was 79.8% of the twenty. Lately they was smoking status 69.7%. Brushing three times a day, 55.8% in male and female were 74.0% with significant differences(p=0.019). Kind of toothbrush "normal" the response was the highest, 45.3% male, 62.6% women were significantly higher in women(p=0.012). Toothbrushing educational experienced 33.7% men, women's educational experience rate of 52.8% was significantly higher(p=0.006), use of oral hygiene products education experienced 15.8% of the men and women 27.6% had significant difference(p=0.049). Scaling experience is not in the Dental plaque index the number of "bad" was significantly higher(p=0.035), toothbrushing educational experience is not in the Dental plaque index the number of "bad" and significantly higher(p=0.008) and Gingival bleeding index was significantly higher(p=0.033). Use of oral hygiene products educational experience if you do not have the number of the Dental plaque index "bad" were higher(p=0.011). Gingival bleeding index, affecting demographic variables were smoking(p=0.024). Dental plaque index the influence of experience with oral hygiene products factors(p=0.044) and gingival bleeding index was influenced Toothbrushing of educational experience(p=0.029). Conclusion: The results reported here confirm the factors associated with the oral health were education of oral hygiene products factors and Toothbrushing experience.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to survey Korean solders' oral healthcare recognition and perceived oral health concern. Methods : The data was collected from a questionnaire given 157 soldiers in Chungcheongnamdo. The data was analyzed into t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation analysis. Results : 25.5% replied that they were concerned about oral health. Soldiers who have received oral healthcare education exhibited higher recognition on the prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease. Moreover, those who have used oral hygiene devices also showed higher recognition on the prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease. The recognition of preventive effects on dental caries, in particular, showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). In regard to the relationship between oral health concern and recognition of oral healthcare, those who were more concerned about oral health were higher recognition of periodontal disease prevention(r=0.254, p<0.01). Conclusions : To improve concern and recognition of oral health for the members, the soldiers needs to develop oral health education and policy.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to research and to analyze the relationship between oral health state of infants and oral health awareness of their parents. Methods : The study has been conducted for 196 infants ranging from the age 18 to 60 month and their parents who have visited three dental clinics in Gyeongju city. The questionnaire has been made to identify the parents' oral health knowledge and behavior, while the dentist has examined the dental care, toothbrushing, and malocclusion of infants. Results : According to the results, it has been found out that there is correlation between subject's health status and oral health status where the higher point of subject's health status lead to the point of oral health status accordingly. Also it has been additionally recognized that there is the relationship between the awareness of parents and the oral health status of their infants in the same way. Conclusions : The parents who have low oral health awareness are required by oral health professionals to be provided with information on infant oral health, in order to promote and to maintain healthy oral status of their infants. And the specific training on method how to care oral health is needed. In addition, the government should take the detailed measures by extending infant's medical benefits to draw their attention to the issue.
Objectives: This case - study was conducted to assess the oral health status change of the elderly through visiting oral care interventions based on a community health care project. Methods: Professional dental hygiene treatment and oral health education, including brushing using interdental toothbrushes and sponge brushes, were performed on three senior citizens who received home visiting oral health care benefit. Results: The subject's periodontal conditions improved including gingival inflammation and bleeding. The gingival color tured pink by controlling the dental plaque. Conclusions: Visiting oral health care contributed to the improvement of oral health of the elderly. Therefore, based on the characteristics of the elderly with various systemic diseases, it is necessary to discover various cases that can perform professional and customized visiting oral health care programs.
Objectives : TThe purpose of this study was to provide the oral health education program for marriage imimigrant women. This study focused on the pre and post education effects including knowledge and attitude of oral health. Methods : Subjects were 51 marriage immigrant women who participated in the 4 phases of oral health program for two weeks from March 26 to June 30, 2012. Results : Oral health education program had a significant influence on the level of oral health perception. The oral health education program enhanced the knowledge level of marriage immigrant women. Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S) also showed a significant difference and suggested that the oral health education program increased the level of knowledge related to oral care. Conclusions : It is necessary to investigate motivation factors and influential factors changing the oral health behaviors, knowledge and attitude related to oral health. Further study will be necessary to analyze the characteristics by countries, social class and age.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the oral health and hygiene in the neurosurgical patients in intensive care unit(ICU). Methods: The subjects were 92 neurosurgical patients in intensive care unit(ICU) from March, 2011 to December, 2012. The oral examination consisted of number of residual teeth, DMFT index, clinical attachment loss, gingival index, plague index, and Candida species colony of tongue and saliva. Plaque was inoculated from tongue and saliva and incubated in 36.5C incubator for 48 hours using $Dentocult^{(R)}$ CA(Orion Diagnostica, Espoo, Finland). Glasgow coma scale(GCS) was measured to evaluate the consciousness of the patients on the basis of medical record. Results: Oral health was poor in clinical attachment loss and gingival index. Oral hygiene in neurosurgical patients in ICU was very poor due to high plaque index and Candida colonization of tongue and saliva. Plague index was closely related to Candida colonization of tongue and saliva(p<0.05). Conclusions: Oral health and hygiene of patients in neurosurgical ICU were very poor. More careful oral hygiene care is very important and necessary to enhance the oral health improvement of the neurosurgical patients in ICU.
The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of the oral health practice between dental hygiene students and Non-Dental Hygiene students in an effort to shed light on the importance of oral health education and its implications for personnels responsible for oral health practice. Their oral health awareness was investigated, and what factors might affect their actual oral health practice was observed. An then a comparative analysis was conducted. Followings are the main results of this study. First, when the characteristics of the self-rated oral health of the college students were analyzed, the dental hygiene students were ahead of the other students who didn't major in dental hygiene in every factor including oral health concern(p<0.001), awareness of oral health importance(p<0.01) and self-perceived oral health status(p<0.01). Second, the dental hygiene students significantly excelled the other students in both the level of oral health awareness(p<0.001) and the level of oral health practice(p<0.001). The findings of the study showed that more oral health education experiences led to better oral health awareness and better oral health practice, and that better oral health awareness led to better oral health practice.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the actual state of oral health behaviors of Chinese students studying in Korea to promote their oral health and provide useful reference materials for expanding dental care services and improving relevant systems. Methods : This research was based on self-filling survey which 413 chinese students in Chungbuk in Korea from April 1 to July 15, 2011. Surveyed data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, $x^2$-test, t-test and one-way ANOVA using SPSS WIN 12.0 program and its signification level was 0.05. The following shows the results of this study. Results : In the event of those who didn't use oral hygiene supplies, the largest group didn't use the devices since they didn't know about them well or they didn't need to use. Regarding links between experience of using oral hygiene devices and concern for oral health, those who used oral hygiene devices showed more interest in oral health(p<.001). Conclusions : Accordingly it now is required to develop a more specific and systematic oral health program and to offer administrative assistance for foreign students during their stay in Korea.
