  • The most important element is a rise ratio when regarding beauty and economics of arch bridges. Only the effect of dead load has been considered to decide the rise ratio. In this study, when going over the rise ratio of arch bridges, examined the problems, that the determination of the rise ratio by the dead load has, by adding the factor of a determination of optimum rise ratio, which is not only the effect of the dead load that has been currently considered but also the problem with respect to dynamic stability that is now taken seriously. Synthetically, when deciding rise ratio that is investigated in basic step of design, it is necessary to consider the evaluation dynamic stability.

  • This study examined the durability of face-slab concrete in Concrete-Faced Rock-filled Dams(CFRDs). The durability of face-slab concrete can be improved by optimizing the amount of fly ash in the cement mixture. Durability tests including plastic shrinkage, permeability, abrasion resistance, and repeated freezing and thawing were done on face-slab concrete specimens with different amounts of fly ash and blended PVA(Poly Vinyl Alcohol) fibre. When the effect of the fly ash content on concrete durability was evaluated, the results showed that a 15% fly ash content and 0.1% blended PVA fiber yielded the optimum durability level for concrete-faced rock-filled dams.

  • It is important to keep the distribution of the raw material mixture constant, in order to maximize the effect of the pre-mix type repair mortar, and it is also necessary to increase the performance of the mixer in order to minimize the deviation of the product. In this study, three kinds of mixer used in production sites were used to make repair mortar and the properties of each mortar were examined. As a result, it is confirmed to the difference in properties of pre-mix type repair mortar differ depending on the type of mixer, and the fluidized zone mixer showed relatively good results. In addition, it is preferable to set the mixing time to about 10 minutes to 15 minutes in order to ensure workability and optimum physical properties.

  • This study is for developing a system for electro-deposition utilizing sea water containing various ions like calcium and magnesium. This is the first step research for the final goal which is a development of anti-corrosive steel for RC structure, so that this paper is mainly focused on the development for electro-deposition system. Optimum conditions for steel coating is obtained through various tests considering anode type, temperature, duration time, and current density. The composition of electro-deposition is analyzed through SEM, EDS, and XRD and it is evaluated to be $CaCO_3$ and $Mg(OH)_2$. Through measuring polarization potential and current density in the coated steel, the coating layer from the developed system is evaluated to have high resistance to steel corrosion. Additional tests and discussions on durability and structural performance in the coated steel from this work will be performed for the second step research.

  • In order to prevent brittle failure of concrete, steel fiber reinforcement is effective composite material. However ductility of steel fiber reinforced concrete may be limited due to shrinkage caused by large content of cement binder. Chemical prestressing for steel fiber reinforcement in cement matrix can be induced through expansive admixture and this can increase reinforcing effect of steel fiber. In this study, mechanical performances in concrete with CSA (Calcium sulfoaluminate) expansive admixture and steel fiber reinforcement are evaluated. For this work, steel fiber reinforcement of 1 and 2% of volume ratio and CSA expansive admixture of 10% weight ratio of cement are added in concrete. Mechanical and fracture properties are evaluated in concrete with steel fiber reinforcement and CSA expansive admixture. CSA concrete with steel fiber reinforcement shows increase in tensile strength, initial cracking load, and ductility performance like enlarged fracture energy after cracking. With appropriate using expansive admixture and optimum ratio of steel fiber reinforcement, their interactive action can effectively improve brittle behavior in concrete.

  • Currently, in the mix design of high strength concrete, cement content depend on the target slump which is fixed with tests. However this cause high content cement use because it is based on the mix design of normal strength concrete. Also, comparatively high content cement might decrease the durability of the concrete. Therefore, in this study, we investigated proper cement content satisfying durability, workability, compressive strength, and reviewed use of admixtures, proper sand-aggregate ratio to the cement content. The results indicate that cement content ranging $370{\sim}550kg/m^3$ did not affect the compressive strength. The field workers should consider durability, workability as well as compressive strength for determining the optimal cement content in the mix design of the high strength concrete.

  • Steel fiber is a effective composite for crack resistance and improve structural performance under tensile loading. This study presents an evaluation of crack resistance and structural performance in cement mortar with steel fiber and expansion agent through internal chemical prestressing. For this work, cement mortar samples with 10% replacement of cement binder with CSA (Calcium-Sulfo-Aluminate) expansion agent and 1% volume ratio of steel fiber are prepared. Including basic mechanical properties, initial cracking load and fracture energy are evaluated in cement mortar beam with notch. Initial cracking load and fracture energy in cement mortar with CSA and steel fiber increase by 1.75 and 1.41~1.53 times compared with those in cement mortar with steel fiber. With optimum mix design for steel fiber and CSA expansive agent, the composite with chemical prestressing can be applied to various members and effectively improve crack resistance to external loading.

  • Spacer is a construction material for maintaining cover depth and steel installation, however several problems like staining, leakage, and cracking are currently issued due to performance degradation and unsatisfactory dimensional stability of spacer. Plastic composite is widely used for prevention of brittle failure in cement based material, which yields improvement of crack resistance and ductile failure. This study is for development and applicability evaluation of high strength spacer with slag cement for environmental load reduction and plastic composite like polypropylene fiber, nylon fiber, and glass fiber. For this work, unit weight of 4 different plastic fibers are evaluated through preliminary tests. Physical tests including compressive, flexural, and tensile strength and durability tests including absorption, permeability, length change, crack resistance, carbonation, and freezing and thawing are performed. Through various tests, optimum plastic fiber is selected and manufacturing system for high strength spacer with the selected fiber is developed. Dimensional stability of the developed spacer is evaluated through field applicability evaluation.

  • This study focuses on the investigation of bond strength of magnesium potassium phosphate cement mortar(MKPC) according to moisture condition of substrate. Tensile bond test, shear bond test and interfacial bond test are adopted for evaluating the adhesion characteristics of MKPC to conventional cement mortar substrate. The main experimental variables are test methods and moisture levels of substrate. Because the moisture condition of the substrate may be critical to achieving bond, optimum moisture condition for a conventional concrete substrate has evaluated in this study. The results are as follows ; The effects of moisture condition at substrate into the bonding of MKPC are less different than polymer cement mortar and epoxy mortar. But the saturated and surface dry condition is the most appropriate moisture level among the considered, followed by saturated condition and wet condition. Thus, an adequate moisture level of substrate for MKPC is essential for good bond strength.
