This study was carried out to know the effect of air temperature on photosynthesis and growth of Korean Valerian (valeriana fauriei var. dasycarpa HARA). The results are as follows; 1. Photosynthesis of V fauriei had highly significant relation to temperature in a quadratic regression model, from which the optimum temperature for the plant growth were estimated to be $17.7^{\circ}C$. During the daytime in the field condition, the photosynthesis rate was highest at 9 a.m, then reduced to minimum at 2 p.m., and increased again thereafter. 2. Number of stomata was about $25/mm^2$ on the upper side and $85/mm^2$ on the lower side of the leaf, and the size was $21{\sim}30/{\mu}m$ in diameter. 3. A highly significant quadratic regression was noted between temperature and leaf width or root weight of V. fauriei. It was estimated from the regression equation that the optimum temperature for root growth was $20.3^{\circ}C$.

To determine the effects of potassium($K_2O$) fertilization level(0, 100, 200 and 300 kg/ha/year) on the growth, dry matter(DM) yield, nutritive value and nitrate nitrogen($NO_3$-N) concentration of grasses grown under shading condition, this experiment was carried out in Grassland Div., LES, 1989. The plants were sampled on different growing seasons (spring, summer and autumn) and growth stages (grazing and soiling), respectively. Shade was controlled artificially ca. 45-50%, and the level of nitrogen fertilization was 200 kg/ha/year in all treatments. Higher DM was produced in spring 1, 453 kg at grazing and 2, 364 kg/ha at soiling stage, and DM production was increased with increasing level of $K_2O$. In this experiment, the optimum amount of $K_2O$ fertilizer was 200 kg/ha. The neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, DM digestibility, and relative feed value of grasses were not affected by $K_2O$ fertilization, regardless of growing season and growth stage. The $NO_3$-N concentration of grasses grown in spring was very low (ca. 1.0%), regardless of growth stage and $K_2O$ level. However, $NO_3$-N concentration was very high in summer and autumn season, also $NO_3$-N was decreased significantly with increasing level of $K_2O$ fertilization (P<0.05). Application of $K_2O$ fertilizer, therefore, is thoughs to be desirable for reducing $NO_3$-N concentration of grasses, especially in summer and autumn season. So annual split fertilization of $K_2O$ could be recommended on woodland pasture.

In general, a sintered rod is used as a feed in the growth of crystals by the floating zone(FZ) method. The sintering condition of the feed rod affected the stability of molten zone because it influenced the interface shape between the feed and the melt during the crystal growth. In this study, rutile and ruby crystals were chosen as samples to analyze the effect of the microstructures of the feed rods. In sintering of the feed rod for the growth of rutile and ruby single crystals, the difference of grain size between the inner and the outer region of the feed rod increased with the sintering temperature and dwelling time. As a result, it altered melting behavior of the feed. The uniform grain size of the sintered rod was necessary for the optimum growing condition of crystals. The effect of pores in the feed rod was not a dominant factor to grow crystals by the FZ method, which was confirmed by growing crystals with nonsinterd rods as feeds.
Recently, photovoltaic industry needs a new design of Czochralski (Cz) process for higher productivity with reasonable energy consumption as well as solar cell's efficiency. If the process uses the large size reactor for increasing productivity, it is possible to produce a 12-inch, rather than the 8-inch. Also the continuous czochralski process method can be maximized to increase productivity. In this study, it was designed to improve the yield value of ingot with optimal condition which reduce consumption of electrical power. It has increased the productivity of the 12-inch ingot process condition by using CFD simulation. I have found optimal growth rate, by comparing each growth rate the interface shape, Temperature gradient, power consumption. As a result, the optimal process parameters of the growth furnace has been derived to improve for the productivity and to reduce energy. This study will contribute to the improvement of the productivity in the solar cell industry.
This study investigated the effects of stocking density and feeding frequency (three and five times per week) on the growth of Pacific cod, Gadus macrocephalus. In the first experiment, experimental groups of fish (mean weight $167.8{\pm}41.4\;g$) were reared at three stocking densities (4, 8 and 12 kg/$m^3$) for 16 weeks. The total weight gain was 17.8, 17.1 and 35.4% at 4, 8 and 12 kg/$m^3$, respectively. The specific growth rates, survival rates and feeding efficiency increased with the density, but there were no significant differences (P>0.05). The daily feed intake decreased as the stocking density increased, whereas the condition factors increased with the stocking density (P<0.05). In the second experiment, groups of fish ($194.1{\pm}68.3\;g$) were fed either three or five times a week. The total wight gain was 14.4 and 18.5% for the fish fed three and five times per week, respectively. The specific growth rates of Pacific cod fed to satiation increased with the feeding frequency, although the difference was not significant (P>0.05). The survival rates, daily feed intake, feed efficiency, and condition factors of the Pacific cod were not significantly different (P>0.05). Based on these results, the optimum stocking density for juvenile cod is above 12 kg/$m^3$, and the best feeding frequency is three times a week, under the conditions used in this experiment.
Fifty hydrocarbon-metabolizing microorganisms were isolated from soil samples polluted by the petroleum oils in Gamman-dong, Busan. Among them, strain 2-3A, showing strong emulsification activity, was selected by oil film-collapsing method. This bacterium was identified as Acinetobacter sp. and designated as Acinetobacter sp. 2-3A. The optimum temperature and pH on the growth of Acinetobacter sp. 2-3A were $25^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0, respectively. The carbon and nitrogen sources for the most effective emulsification activity were 3.0% olive oil and 0.5% peptone, respectively. The 0.15% potassium phosphate was the most effective emulsification activity as a phosphate source. The optimum emulsification activity condition was $20^{\circ}C$, pH 7.0, and 2.0% NaCl. The optimum time for the best production of biosurfactant was 27 hrs. The emulsification stability was maintained at the temperature range from $4^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C$, pH range from 6.0 to 10.0, and NaCl range from 0% to 10%. For the oil resolvability of the biosurfactant, the residual oils were investigated by gas chromatography. As a result, it was verified that the biosurfactant decreased and decomposed crude oils from $_nC_{10}$ to $_nC_{32}$.
The behavior of continuous flow culture of Lartobacillus bulgricus was investigated by application of Monod's kinetic model. The parameters obtained from Monod's chemostat theory successfully predicted the behavior of the chemostat. Then, it was found that Monod's kinetics were applicable to the growth rate dependence on glucose concentration. Under steady-state condition, the maximum growth rate, saturation constant, and wash out were found to be 0.62/hr, 7.69 g/1, 0.51/hr of continuous culture. And the optimum condition for the highest cell production was 0.41/hr in dilution rate, and at that point the cell production rate was 0.178g/1 hr.
Strains degrading and decolorizing reactive dyes, Procion blue HEGN and Procion red HE7B were isolated from water system, are named as RBK1 and RRK, the growth characteristics of which were investigated. Decolorization efficiencies after 42 hrs in batch culture were 95% and 77%, respectively. and the optimal culture condition of temperature and pH were $30^{\circ}C$, 7.0. Decolorization efficiencies in condition of aerobic shaking culture by strains RBK1 and RRK conspicuously increased, and culture by strain RBK1 was found as 95% after 42 hrs, while standing culture was 64%, Optimum nitrogen source was peptone, and It was found that decolorization efficiencies by strains RBK1 and RRK increased up to 4,000mg/l of peptone concentration as nitrogen source, but peptone concentration did' nt influence the decolorization efficiency in above 4,000mg/l. When the concentration of dyes were more than 800 mg/l and 400 mg/l respectively, the strains RBK1 and RRK, which degrade Procion bule HEGN and Procion red HE7B, showed a sharply decreased decolorization efficiencies; then the specific growth rate were $0.25hr^{-1}$ and $0.09hr^{-1}$.
As a primary study for cell growth and alcohol production of a cider yeast, Saccharomyces sp. R-11, cultural and nutritional characteristics of the strain were investigated. The results obtained were as follows: The optimum culture medium for this strain was a synthetic medium, Henneberg B, and sucrose was the best carbon source for yeast growth and alcohol production. Optimum sugar concentrations for yeast growth and alcohol production were 15% and 25%, respectively. Optimum pH and temperature of the basal medium for growth of this strain were 4.5 and $30^{\circ}C$ respectively. The yeast growth was enhanced by the addition of 100 ppm of $Mg^{2+}$, but significantly inhibited by the addition of 100 ppm of $Co^{2+}$. Lower temperature and maintenance of optimum pH for yeast growth increased the final alcohol concentration. Under optimum condition for cell growth at stationary culture, generation time and specific growth rate of the strain were 7.5 hr and 0.092 $hr^{-1}$, respectively. At 8% initial alcohol concentration, yeast growth was inhibited about 50% and this strain could not be grown at more than 12% initial alcohol. The strain could be grown at less than 125ppm $SO_2$without alcohol addition, and at less than 75 ppm $SO_2$ with 8% initial alcohol. The higher sulfur dioxide concentration of a medium, the longer lag phase in yeast growth was observed. This strain could induced alcoholic fermentation at less than 10% initial alcohol concentration with 0 and 25 ppm $SO_2$, at less than 8% initial alcohol with 50 and 75 ppm $SO_2$, and at less than 6% initial alcohol with 100 and 125 ppm $SO_2$.

The oxide etching process was characterized in a magnetically enhanced reactive ion etching (MERIE) reactor with a $CHF_3CF_4$ gas chemistry. A statistical experimental design plus one center point was used to characterize relationships between process factors and etch response. The etch response modeled are etch rate, etch selectivity to TiN and uniformity. Etching uniformity was improved with increasing $CF_4$ flow ratio, increasing source power, and increasing pressure depending on source power. Characterization of via etching in $CHF_3CF_4$ MERIE using neural networks was successfully executed giving to highly valuable information about etching mechanism and optimum etching condition. It was found that etching uniformity was closely related to surface polymerization, DC bias, TiN and uniformity.
