Optimum Geometry Factor of Structural Synthetic Fibers (구조용 합성섬유의 최적형상함수 결정)

  • The purpose of the study is to establish an optimum geometry and optimum geometry factor through bond test of a structural synthetic fiber, which fully utilizes matrix anchoring without fiber fracturing with the maximum pullout resistance. Seven deformed structural synthetic fibers with widely different geometries were investigated and pullout test was conducted. Included parameters are seven different types of fiber and two of mortar matrixes. The test result shows that the crimped type structural synthetic fiber is significant improvement in the interface toughness(pullout energy) and pullout load. The pullout test was performed with various size of crimped type structural synthetic fiber in order to invest optimum geometry factor, In the basis of the test results, optimum geometry factor is established such as D=b$^{{\alpha}0{\alpha}}$h$^{λ{\beta}}$.

  • The shape optimization is performed to minimize the judder of ventilated disc brake rotor that is induced by the thermal deformation of the disc. A three-dimensional finite element is developed to analyze the coupled system of temperature and displacement field, and the thermal conductivity and mechanical stiffness matrices are simultaneously taken into account. To reduce computing time, an equivalent heat transfer rate is introduced approximating the heat transfer rate on the disc surface. A deformation factor is introduced to describe the thermal deformation causing the judder. The deformation factor is chosen as an objective function in the optimization process. Consequently an optimum design is then performed minimizing the deformation factor with the design variables of the shape of the disc. The optimum design procedure presented in this study is proven to be an effective method of minimizing the judder, and it reduces the thermal deformation by 23% of the initial geometry.

  • Screw conveyors are used extensively in industrial for conveying and elevating materials. Despite their apparent simplicity, the mechanics of the conveying action is very complex. so many engineers depend on experiential data. Capacities of screw are pumping, steady flow of polymer melts, steady volumetric throughput etc. they are affected by geometry of screw, heat flux, pressure on inside barrel, rotating velocity, friction coefficient at screw surface etc. by computation volumetric efficiency increases as rotating velocity increases and decreases as friction coefficient increases. also it decreases with short pitch length. and double flight screw is more effective than single flight screw. The temperature of polymer melts by heating pad and injection pressure play a very important role in the injection molding machine. so in this paper we analyze thermal distortion and stress of screw includes pressure and temperature distributions by finite element analysis to understand what design factors influence on volumetric throughput efficiency of the screw and thermo-mechanical characteristics of screw.

  • In this paper, the epipolar geometry, genera17y used as a pin-hole camera model, is newly adapted to our proposed method that enables the affine reconstruction of the 3D object from two projected views. The proposed method models the projective projection of inherent X-ray imaging system, obviates the need to attach artifirially constructed material on the body, and requires none of the prior-knowledge regarding to intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of two X-ray imaging systems. The optimum numerical solution is obtained by applying the least mean square estimator to corresponding points on two projected X-ray planes. The performance of this proposed method is Quantitatively analyzed using computer synthesized model of Cochlear implantation electrodes. In simulated experiments, the propnsed method is insensitive to the added random noise, the scaling factor change, the center point change, and rotational angular change between two projection planes, as well as enables the stable 3D reconstruction in least square sense even in worst testing cases.

  • Domes are architectural and elegant structures which cover a vast area with no interrupting columns in the middle, and with suitable shapes can be also economical. Domes are built in a wide variety of forms and specialized terms are available to describe them. According to their form, domes are given special names such as network, lamella, Schwedler, ribbed, and geodesic domes. In this paper, an optimum topology design algorithm is performed using the enhanced colliding bodies optimization (ECBO) method. The network, lamella, ribbed and Schwedler domes are studied to determine the optimum number of rings, the optimum height of crown and tubular sections of these domes. The minimum volume of each dome is taken as the objective function. A simple procedure is defined to determine the dome structures configurations. This procedure includes calculating the joint coordinates and element constructions. The design constraints are implemented according to the provision of LRFD-AISC (Load and Resistance Factor Design-American Institute of Steel Constitution). The wind loading act on domes according to ASCE 7-05 (American Society of Civil Engineers). This paper will explore the efficiency of various type of domes and compare them at the first stage to investigate the performance of these domes under different kind of loading. At the second stage the wind load on optimum design of domes are investigated for Schwedler dome. Optimization process is performed via ECBO algorithm to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the ECBO in creating optimal design for domes.

  • A basic procedure to design marine propellers by a curved lifting line theory was shown. By adapting discrete singularity method, it became possible to take into account of skew, rake and the contraction of slip stream in the early stage of preliminary design procedure. It is also shown that lifting line theory based on the discrete singularity method converges to a common solution obtained by induction factor method with a relatively small number of discrete elements. Lifting the blade geometry more accurately on the basis of hydrodynamic principles. A number of numerical results from lifting line calculation are presented for the purpose of comparison with the previous method, and with these results two sample designs are carried out, which are wake-adapted optimum and wake-adapted non-optimum propellers.

다구찌 기법을 활용한 자전거 핸들 바의 최적 설계

  • In this paper, the study of the optimum design for a geometry of the handle bar to obtain a high stiffness and light weight is investigated, using EDISON simulation program. High stiffness and weight lightening are considered as the major performance indicators of the component of the bicycle. Four design factors and three levels of the design factors are selected for the structural optimization and experiments are designed using the orthogonal array of L9 by Taguchi method. We calculated SN ratio of larger-the-better and smaller-the-better characteristics from FEA results and analysed the effects of design factors on characteristics. We choosed the optimum level of design factors based on deflection and safety factor. Comparing the results of FE analysis with converted value of predicted SN ration, we made sure for reliability of Taguchi method and FE method for structural optimization.

  • Generally, there are two methods in researching internal combustion engines. One is by experimental research and the other is by computer simulation. The experimental research has many merits that researchers can get data for engine performance, but it has also some demerit of cost and time. If there is an engine simulation code with accuracy for the solution, it is very convenient to predict the performance and optimum design value of the engine. In this study, engine performance simulation program has been improved to predict the transient variation of properties of gas in cylinder, intake and exhaust manifolds, There total program code was developed to calculate the pressure, flame factor and turbulent intensity, As a result of present study, the authors could predicted the in-cylinder pressure, intake manifold pressure and the engine performance in various conditions. The authors also could easily prepare the tool if optimum design of manifold and in-cylinder geometry.

  • Effect of reentrant type bowl geometry on combustion characteristics was investigated in a D.1.diesel engine. The main factor was the aspect ratio (Bowl Diameter/Bowl Depth) of bowl of combustion chamber, and the measured data include the cylinder pressure, engine performance and emissions of the engine using the 4 kinds of the combustion chamber. Experimental results indicate that the effect of dc/H and nozzle protrusion are relatively small and there exists an optimum dc/H according to the combustion conditions. It is also found that the smoke emission is quite sensitive the overall combustion time where the 90 percentage of the combustion heat is released. The smoke mission increases by shortening the 90% combustion time while it decreases by delaying the 90% combustion time.

  • This study is to systematically analyze the effect of various kinds of design parameters on heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of heat exchanger with a slit fin. TAGUCHI method, known to us as a very reasonable tool in the parametric study, is employed in the present work. Experimental factors have been limited to seven cases, considering the production of sample and the cost. The 18 kinds of large scale models are made by compounding level on each factor and the heat transfer and flow characteristics on each model has been analyzed. The present results allow us to be able to quantitatively estimate the various parameters affecting the heat exchanger performance, and main factors for an optimum design of a heat exchanger have been selected. The optimum design value on each parameter was presented and the reproducibility on the results was guaranteed.
