Spinel phase $LiMn_2O_4$ is of great interest as cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. In this study, SHS (Self propagating High-temperature Synthesis) method to synthesize spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ directly from lithium nitrate, manganese oxide, manganese and sodium chloride were investigated. The influence of Li/Mn ratio, the heat-treated condition of product have been explored. The resultant $LiMn_2O_4$ synthesized under the optimum synthesis conditions shows perfect spinel structure, uniform particle size and excellent electrochemical performances.
ZnO low voltage varistor was obtained by varying a) the amount of seed grains, b) the size of seed grains, and c) sintering temperature. Also, the optimum condition for fabricating the ZnO seed grains was studied. Large ZnO seed grains were obtained by washing a ZnO sintered body containing 1m/of BaCO3 in boiling water. When the seed grains were added, abnormal grain growth occurred, and the varistor voltage sharply decreased. However, when more than 5w/o of seed grain content was added, the varistor voltage gradually increased. When 10w/o seed grains of 75~106${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were added and sintered for 2 hours at 1200 to 125$0^{\circ}C$, low voltage varistor properties with V1mA/mm of 19V/mm and nonlinear exponent ($\alpha$) of 12 occurred.
Crack-free hard coating siIica films were prepared by sol-gel processfrom twokinds of silicon alkoxide (tetra-ethoxysilane and methyltrimethoxysilane) and two kinds of alcohol (methanol and isopropyl alcohol) with an acid catalyst, acetic acid. A silicate framework of the precursor solution was investigated by infrared spectros-copy (IR) in the process of hydrolysis and condensation. Theextent of the condensation in the intermediates was elucidated by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and 29Si-NMR spectroscopy. The hard coating films werecharacterized by IR,scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA) and dif-ferential scanning calroimeter (DSC). The synthetic condition for the crack-free and transparent silica film for-mation was optimized interms of starting materials for the precursor solution as well as preparation method of the silica film.
In order to obtain the fundamental data for the preparation of ferroxplana $Zn_2Y(Ba_2Zn_2Fe_{12}O_{22})$, which is useful for GHz-band communication, the optimum coprecipitation condition of $Zn(NO_3)_2-6FeCl_3$ in $NH_4OH$ solution and the formation process of the hexagonal ferrite were investigated. By the hot-petroleum-drying and calcining the coprecipitated hydroxide mixture $Zn(OH)_2 +Ba(OH)_2+ 6Fe(OH)_3$, the fine and uniform powder was obtained , whose phase composition and microstructure were studied by X.R.D. and electron microscope. In results, it was found that $Zn_2Y$, BaM and $Zn_2W$ were the representative phases in calcined specimens whose activation energies of crystal growth were about 3, 8, 2.5, $5.4{\times}10^4$ J/mole , respectively. The sintered specimens would be appreciated as useful magnetic cores for the high frequency communication.
Self-Propagating high temperature synthesis(SHS) technique was used to synthesize the spinel phase of MgAl2O from MgO and Al powder. Processing factors such as mixing time preheating temperature and ignition catalyst were varied to determine the optimum condition to form MgAl2O4 phase. The reaction products were heat treated at the temperature range of 120$0^{\circ}C$ and 150$0^{\circ}C$. to observe phase transformation of unreacted materials. Processing factors such as 48 hrs-mixing 80$0^{\circ}C$-preheating and 20wt% KNO3-ignition catalyst were effective of the formation of MgAl2O spinel. An activation energy 49.7kcal/mol. was calculated to form a MaAl2O4 spinel from unreacted materials.
This study presents the results of an overall effort to detemine the applicability of the chemical wet process informing lead titanate electronic ceramics. Although pure lead titanate has not proven to be an important technological materials when prepared via conventional processing procedures this work is interesting as a study of chemical wet processing and a way of preparing pbTiO3 for study. The result obtained from this experiment were as follows ; Optimum synthesis condition which synthesize PbTiO3 by chemical wet process was obtained by firing at 50$0^{\circ}C$ after mixing $Pb(OH)_2$- gel and $Ti(OH)_4$ -gel at 7$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours.
In order to prepare ferroxplana ZnY $(Ba_2Zn_2Fe_{12}O_{22})$, which would be useful for GHz-band communication, the optimum coprecipitation condition of 1 $BaCl_{2-1} Zn(NO_3)_2-6FeCl_3$ in $NaOH-Na_2CO_3$ solution was investigated by use of a new apparatus invented in our laboratory. By freeze-drying and calcining the coprecitated hydroxide-carbonate, the very reactive powder was obtained, from which the synthesis process of ZnY and the other related crystals were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction. In results, it was found that the reactive powder containing ZnY as the major component can be prepared by this method, which may be used in manufacturing the various magnetic cores for the microwave communication.
The objective of this study was to investigate technical methods for extraction of mucopolysachharide-protein containing chondroitin sulfate from keel cartilage of chickens. The chemical composition of chicken keel cartilage was determined. For the preparation of mucopolysaccharide-protein from lyophilized chicken keel cartilage, hot water extraction and alcalase hydrolysis methods were examined. Results showed that the optimum condition of hot water extraction was incubation for 120 min with a yield of 40.09% and chondroitin sulfate content of 28.46%. For alcalase hydrolysis, the most effective condition was 2% alcalase in 10 volumes of distilled water for 120 min. The yield of hydrolysate was 75.87%, and chondroitin sulfate content was 26.61%. For further separation of chondroitin sulfate from the alcalase hydrolysate, which has a higher yield than that of hot water, 60% ethanol precipitation was performed. The yield of the ethanol precipitate was 21.41% and its chondroitin sulfate content was 46.31%. The hot water extract, alcalase hydrolysate and ethanol precipitate showed similar electrophoretic migration with standard chondroitin sulfate (chondroitin sulfate A), using cellulose acetate membrane electrophoresis. These results indicated that a significant amount of mucopolysaccharide-protein containing chondroitin sulfate could be acquired form chicken keel cartilage. Therefore, keel cartilage in chicken may provide an inexpensive source of chondroitin sulfate for commercial purposes.
The principal objective of this study was to determine the optimal mixing condition of two different amounts of cabbage and rice flour for the preparation of a cabbage cream soup. The experimental design was based on the central composite design methodology of response surface, which included 10 experimental points, including two replicates for the cabbage and rice flour. Physiochemical and sensory properties were measured, and these values were applied to the mathematical models. A canonical form and perturbation plot showed the influence of each ingredient on the mixed final product. Water content and pH values increased with increasing quantities of rice flour. Neither cabbage or rice flour affected the L and a values, but the b value increased with greater quantity of both ingredients. Viscosity increased with increasing added cabbage. Sensory evaluation results were significant in the predicted model for flavor (p<0.05), concentration (p<0.01) and overall quality (p<0.01). As a result, the optimum formulations by numerical and graphical methods were calculated as 111.79 g cabbage and 8.99 g rice flour.
