Nickel catalyst has been used for natural gas reforming with carbon dioxide, In this study, catalyst support used was HY zeolite. The optimum loading of Ni in the catalysts was 13 wt%. The effect of promoters, such as Mg, Mn, and K, was also studied. The addition of promoters to Ni catalyst improved the stability of catalysts and carbon deposition on Ni catalyst was suppressed. The reforming reactivity of promoter-added Ni catalyst was higher than that of Ni catalyst without any promoters. SEM, XRD, BET, TGA and FTIR tests were tried to characterize the catalyst structure before and after reaction.
For commercial applications, MEA development must be optimized in order to achieve high performance and low cost. There are many factors that affect the performance of MEA. Especially, the optimization of the method for preparing catalyst layer has great effect on the performance of MEA. Various methods have been used to prepare the catalyst layer of MEA. Among them, spraying method has a merit in that catalysis lay can be prepared with very flexible changes in catalyst layer as well as in the solvent composition of catalyst ink. In addition, in order to reduce the time required for manufacturing catalyst layer, an effort has been made to change the nozzle size and injection pressure of spray system. Further, the operation condition of spray system was changed in various ways in an effort to prepare optimum catalyst layer of MEA. Having optimized the operation condition of spraying system, comprehensive and diverse experiments were carried out concerning various factors that affect the performance of MEA. The present research report describes the results of more sub-categorized and more detailed experiments about the important factors (Nafion$^{(R)}$ ionomer, Relative humidity) which have been shown in previous experiments to exert greater effect on the performance of MEA.
Optimum conditions of the hydrogenation of PNA to pure PPD were determined in a three-phase slurry reactor with suspended Pd/C catalyst particles. Minimization of mass transfer resistances at the interfaces of both gas-liquid and liquid-catalyst particles and control of overall reaction rate on catalyst surface leaded to decrease the hydrogen starvation on reaction active sites and to reduce the side reactions during hydrogenation. The optimum temperature, pressure, and catalysst concentration were confirmed to be in the range of $60^{\circ}C$, 60~70 psig, and 1~2 g-cat/L, respectively. Reaction rate was zero order with respect to the concentration of PNA and 1st order with respect to the pressure of hydrogen(P). Overall rate expression of the reaction was $R_A=6.44{\times}10^6{\cdot}H{\cdot}P{\cdot}m{\cdot}$exp(-4659/T) where H is constant, m is concentration of catalyst, and T is temperature.
The present paper highlights on the need to understand the correlation of the characteristics of the catalyst layer with the performance of the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell. The paper deals with the correlation of the platinum loading in the catalyst layer and the performance of the Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell(PEMFC) and also the correlation of the required hydrophiliticityihydrophobicity in the catalyst layer to get the optimum performance under given operating conditions.
For the fine-pitch application of flip-chip bonding with semiconductor packaging, fluxing and hybrid underfills were developed. A micro-encapsulated catalyst was adopted to control the chemical reaction at room and processing temperatures. From the experiments with a differential scanning calorimetry and viscometer, the chemical reaction and viscosity changes were quantitatively characterized, and the optimum type and amount of micro-encapsulated catalyst were determined to obtain the best pot life from a commercial viewpoint. It is expected that fluxing and hybrid underfills will be applied to fine-pitch flip-chip bonding processes and be highly reliable.
Stigmastanol, a functional agent of cholesterol-lowering in humans, was synthesized from stigmasterol. To investigate the usability as a raw material, the contents of sterol in vegetable oils and extract of soybean chaff were analyzed. The total sterol contents showed high values of 213.7 and 209.8 mg/100g in corn and soybean oils respectively. The extract of soybean chaff has played a good role as a raw material with high sterol contents. The kinetics of hydrogenation of stigmasterol was studied using a 5% Pd/AC catalyst in the temperature range of 30~$60^{\circ}$C. Increasing temperature showed a prominent decrease in conversion. The optimum temperature was $40^{\circ}$C for high yield of stigmastanol. The effects of $H_2$ pressure, agitation speed, catalyst loading, and stigmasterol concentration on reaction rate profile were also examined. From the power law model analysis using the initial rates of reaction, the reaction order was calculated as 0.705 for stigmasterol concentration and 0.147 for hydrogen pressure.

Water repellent finish was carried out using water repellent agent(AG-480), melamine resin(Sumitex Resin MK), and catalyst(Sumitex Accelerator ACX). PET/nylon fabrics were treated with melamine resin by pad-dry-cure method and subsequently washed and dried. Durable water repellency was controlled by the melamine resin and catalyst. Water repellency was tested by spray rating method and durability of water repellency were measured by launder-O-meter and pilling tester. The optimum conditions of durable water repellent finish for new synthetic fabric were as follows; concentration of water repellent finishing agent 20g/l; concentration of melamine & catalyst 0.5g/l; curing condition $160^{\circ}$${\times}$ 30sec. Water repellency after washing and rubbing is improved by melamine resin and catalyst.
Propylene polymerizations were carried out by using rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrCl$_2$ (Zirconocene catalyst) and a commercial third generation Ziegler-Natta catalyst in a semibatch reactor. From the polymerization reactions, the optimum reaction conditions and the physical properties of polymers produced from each catalyst system were investigated. The optimum reaction temperatures of rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrCl$_2$ and Ziegler-Natta catalyst were 5$0^{\circ}C$, 4$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. On the basis of the results for the produced polymer particle size distributions and the catalytic activities of polymerization reaction, the reaction temperature should be considered as an important factor for the successful polymerization reactions. Especially, the polymer was conglomerated in the higher reaction temperature. It was found that there was an upper limitation to co-catalyst concentration. Reaction rates and polymer yields rather decreased with increasing the concentration of to-catalyst, i.e., MAO and TEAl affected only polymerization activities, but the PEEB in Ziegler-Natta catalyst system affected isotactic indexes of produced polymer as well as activities. Based on these observations, the production yield seems to exhibit a first order lineal relationship to the partial pressure of monomer.
PtRu catalyst is most widely used as anode catalyst for a direct methanol fuel cell(DMFC). To promote the efficiency of the catalysts, it Is important to increase the triple phase boundary. In this study, we have tried to increase the triple phase boundaries in preparing electrocatalysts of the fuel cells, based on the process of grafting a proton-conducting agent onto the catalyst This grafted proton-conducting agent can act as an ionomer like Nafion, currently widely used ionomer. First, we have prepared the 80wt% PtRu/Ketjen Black electrocatalyst by an improved colloidal method. And, we have grafted methylsulfonate groups $(-CH_2SO_3H)$ into the catalyst as proton-conducting agents. As results of cyclic voltammety and single cell test of the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), we can conclude that the activity of the grafted electrocatalysts is superior to that of conventional ones, in performance of DMFCs. For our further study, we will investigate the optimum ratio of catalyst/grafted proton conduct Ing agent with maximum performance of a DMFC.
To recycle raw fly ash (RFA), a waste from thermal power plants, it was used to prepare solid catalysts which have many advantages compared with homogenous catalysts. When biodiesel was produced from soybean oil using RFA, only 1.2% of biodiesel conversion was obtained. A metal hydroxide, NaOH, KOH or $Ca(OH)_2$, was mixed with the acid-treated fly ash (ATFA), and the mixture was calcined at $700^{\circ}C$ for 3 h to prepare the solid catalyst. The solid catalyst prepared by mixing ATFA with NaOH, designated as SC-Na, showed a better performance than those prepared by mixing ATFA with KOH or $Ca(OH)_2$, respectively. The optimal mass ratio of ATFA with NaOH was 1:3, at which the proportion of $Na_2O$ increased to 60.2% in SC-Na, and 97.8% of biodiesel conversion was achieved under optimal reaction conditions (2 w% SC-Na relative to oil and 5 mL-methanol/g-oil at $50^{\circ}C$ for 4 h). Finally, a batch operation was repeatedly carried out to test the feasibility of reusing the solid catalyst, and more than 96% biodiesel conversion was stably achieved for the third round of operations. This study shows that RFA was successfully recycled to solid catalysts through a simple preparation method, and the solid catalyst was reused for the production of biodiesel with high conversion.
