This study applied a segmented hard shell design on knee protectors for children with the objective of increasing mobility. The prototype of the hard shell that does not correspond to movement of the body among components of the knee protector was developed. Surface modeling was conducted based on 3D knee data to enhance comfort through optimized fit on the knee joint where the hard shell would be worn. For this, previous studies on changes in skin near the knee joint during knee flexion were reviewed to establish basic segmental lines. The basic design included six segments, and the number of segments was used as the design variable by increasing or decreasing it to 0, 3, 6, 9, and 14 segments. A prototype was produced from 3D printing with TPU material, worn for wearing assessment. Results revealed fewer numbers of segments resulting in less fit with the body, while actual appearance was stable. Meanwhile, the number of proper segments improved better fit with the body during movement. The wearing assessment revealed the amount of gap reflects change in skin length depending on movement. Assessment results demonstrated basic segment design, S6 with 6 segments, had the best design and most optimized fit. Findings in this study can provide key data for designing knee protection products for children.

Copper bus-bar is made by drawing process and used in many part of industry. Ohen design drawing die for copper bus-bar, design factor is focused on the deformation of die-land by drawing force and shrink fit. In this paper it is analyzed to determine shrink fit value by shrink fit analysis program which is used with APDL/UIDL language in a commercial FEM package, ANSYS. The shrink fit analysis has been developed that enables optimal desist of the dies taking into account the elastic deflections. Elastic deflection is generated in shrink fitting the die inserts and that caused by the stresses generated using DEFORM software for drawing process analysis. This data can be processed as load input data fir a finite element die-stress analysis. Process simulation and stress analysis are thus combined during the drawing die design. The stress analysis of the dies is used to determine optimized dimension of die-land.

CoMFA and CoMSIA model were derived and reviewed on the insecticidal activities of N-substituents (X) on the imidazol ring in imidacloprid analogues at the different alignment condition. Regarding the predictability ($q^2$ or $r_{cv.}^2$) and fitness ($r_{ncv.}^2$) of the two optimized models, the atom based fit (A) alignments were better than that of the field fit (F) alignment and, on the other hand, CoMSIA (A10) model was better than CoMFA (A5) model. Also, from the most optimized CoMSIA (A10) model, the insecticidal activity by N-substituents (X) was dependence on the electrostatic field and H-bond acceptor field. It is predicted that, from the contour maps with optimized CoMSIA (A10) model, H-bond acceptors at ortho- and meta- position will contribute for improving of insecticidal activities and, as the functional groups of carbonyl oxygen atom are charged negatively and positively charged at the ortho- position of benzyl group, insecticidal activities will also be improved.

The press-fit shaft is an important part used in automobiles, vessels, and trains. This study proposes an optimized design method to reduce damage that may occur in the press-fitted shaft by modifying the shape of the boss step of the press-fitted shaft. To reduce the time and cost of running the optimized design method, an approximate design optimization is applied and an optimized algorithm is generated using a genetic algorithm that is widely used in engineering fields and an approximate model using a response surface method. The planned experiments for the data that are needed to generate the approximate model use a central composite design (CCD) and Latin hypercube sampling (LHS), and the results of the approximate optimization using the above two design of experiments are to be compared.
Background: The modelling of lactation curve provides guidelines in formulating farm managerial practices in dairy cows. The aim of the present study was to determine the suitable non-linear model which most accurately fitted to lactation curves of five lactations in 134 Gir crossbred cows reared in Research-CumDevelopment Project (RCDP) on Cattle farm, MPKV (Maharashtra). Four models viz. gamma-type function, quadratic model, mixed log function and Wilmink model were fitted to each lactation separately and then compared on the basis of goodness of fit measures viz. adjusted $R^2$, root mean square error (RMSE), Akaike's Informaion Criteria (AIC) and Bayesian Information Criteria (BIC). Results: In general, highest milk yield was observed in fourth lactation whereas it was lowest in first lactation. Among the models investigated, mixed log function and gamma-type function provided best fit of the lactation curve of first and remaining lactations, respectively. Quadratic model gave least fit to lactation curve in almost all lactations. Peak yield was observed as highest and lowest in fourth and first lactation, respectively. Further, first lactation showed highest persistency but relatively higher time to achieve peak yield than other lactations. Conclusion: Lactation curve modelling using gamma-type function may be helpful to setting the management strategies at farm level, however, modelling must be optimized regularly before implementing them to enhance productivity in Gir crossbred cows.
An all-on-4 restoration allows edentulous patients to use a fixed prosthesis with a minimum number of implants. These implant-supported fixed complete dentures have traditionally been fabricated as screw-retained or cement-retained prostheses. However, it is difficult to passively fit the long-span full-arch prosthesis using the screw-retained type restoration, and predictable retrievability is not obtained with the cement-retained type. This case report describes a prosthesis fabricated using a combination of the two retention types. The screwmentable method allows the implant-supported fixed complete denture to achieve a passive fit at the connection with retrievability. In addition, a framework with an optimized size was designed by using digital dental technology.

When we develop 2D pattern from replica of human body with small pieces, it is inevitable to have some replica pieces overlapped or departed. In this study, the optimized method of 2D pattern development from the 3D replica pieces was investigated using dress-form. Among six arrangement methods, anchoring two vertexes of a replica to neighboring vertexes of a next replica induces the optimized 2D pattern by evenly distributing stress across the 3D replica pieces. Anchoring neighboring vertexes resulted in automatic widening k overlapping (W & O) the interspaces among replicas of dress-form, thereby stress was distributed more evenly than any other method. W&O arrangement method was verified to be the best by examining the 3D space distribution images between body surface and twelve experimental garments.

In this paper, a longitudinal die insert fracture which occurred during cold forging of a high strength ball-stud with a sound die design nearly optimized empirically for relatively low strength material of SCM435 is introduced and the reason is revealed. A comparative study between SCM435 and ESW105 is quantitatively made using a thermoelastic finite element method for die structural analysis coupled with a forging simulator theoretically based on a rigid-plastic finite element method. It has been shown that the longitudinal die insert fracture caused from non-optimized value of shrink fit, emphasizing that the die optimal design is inevitable for cold forging of high strength materials.
