  • This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of solid particles as a stabilizing agent instead of surfactant for preparing emulsions in the cosmetics. The type of emulsions stabilized by solid particles was dependent on wettability of the particles for water and oil. The optimal conditions of emulsions stabilized by solid particles were determined with ratio of water and oil phase, polarity of oils and amount of stabilizers. In the foundation appling the optimal condition of emulsions stabilized by solid particles without surfactant, the stable emulsion type foundation was successfully prepared. As a result, this work indicates that emulsions stabilized by solid particles can be applied to make-up cosmetics.

  • Low-molecular weight peptides derived from fish collagen exhibit several bioactivities, including antioxidant, antiwrinkle, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, and antihypertension effects. These peptides are also involved in triglyceride suppression and memory improvement. This study aimed to investigate the optimal processing condition for preparing low-molecular weight peptides from flounder skin, and the properties of the hydrolysate. The optimal processing conditions for peptic hydrolysis were as follows: a ratio of pepsin to dried skin powder of 2% (w/w), pH of 2.0, and a temperature of 50℃. Peptic hydrolysate contains several low-molecular weight peptides below 300 Da. Gly-Pro-Hyp(GPHyp) peptide, a process control index, was detected only in peptic hydrolysate on matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time-of-flight(MALDI-TOF) spectrum. 2,2'-azinobis-(3-3-ethylbenzothiazolline-6- sulfonic acid(ABTS) radical scavenging activity of the peptic hydrolysate was comparable to that of 1 mM ascorbic acid, which was used as a positive control at pH 5.5, whereas collagenase inhibition was five times higher with the peptic hydrolysate than with 1 mM ascorbic acid at pH 7.5. However, the tyrosinase inhibition ability of the peptic hydrolysate was lower than that of arbutin, which was used as a positive control. The antibacterial effect of the peptic hydrolysate against Propionibacterium acne was not observed. These results suggest that the peptic hydrolysate derived from a flounder skin is a promising antiwrinkle agent that can be used in various food and cosmetic products to prevent wrinkles caused by ultraviolet radiations.

  • In this study, $Eu^{2+}$ ion was used as an activator in order to enhance the PL(photoluminescene) and PSL(photostimulated luminescence) intensity of $MCl_2:Eu^{2+}$(M = Ca, Sr, Ba)phosphors and the chracteristics of PL and PSL of the phosphors were investigated. The emission of $MCl_2:Eu^{2+}$(M = Ca, Sr, Ba) phosphors shows a shift wavelength when the host caution changes. The optimal preparing conditions of $CaCl_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor were 0.5 mol% of $EuCl_2$ and the sintering temperature were $745^{\circ}C$, 45 min. in $H_2$ atmosphere. The PL and PSL spectra of $CaCl_2:Eu^{2+}$ locate in the range of $365{\sim}388\;nm$, peaking at 370 and 380 nm. The optimal preparing conditions of $BaCl_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor were 0.5 mol% of $EuCl_2$ and the sintering temperature were $905^{\circ}C$, 45 min. in $H_2$ atmosphere. The PL and PSL spectra of $BaCl_2:Eu^{2+}$ locate in the range of $370{\sim}460\;nm$, peaking at 398 nm. The optimal preparing conditions of $SrCl_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor were 0.5mol% of $EuCl_2$ and the sintering temperature were $840^{\circ}C$, 45min. in $H_2$ atmosphere. The PL and PSL spectra of $SrCl_2:Eu^{2+}$ locate in the range of $380{\sim}440\;nm$, peaking at 407 nm. The dose response of the $MCl_2:Eu^{2+}$(0.5 mol%)(M = Ba, Sr) phosphors were linear within $0.25{\sim}200\;mGy$ of 100 kV X-ray and the PSL intensity of the $SrCl_2:Eu^{2+}$ and $BaCl_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors faded to approximately 60 and 40% respectively after 120 min at room temperature.

  • In this study, the quality characteristics of purple corn cob extract (PCCE) by extraction time were examined. The cob of purple corn, which is mainly cultivated in the Andes region of South America, contains more anthocyanin than the corresponding purple corn seeds. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal conditions for the preparation of water extracts from purple corn cob. PCCE had a soluble solid content of $0.6^{\circ}Brix$. The Hunter lightness ($L^*$), redness ($a^*$), yellowness ($b^*$) values of the PCCE were 31.0, 38.4, and 9.0, respectively. The PCCE contained 24.64 mg/g of cyanidin, 0.35 mg/g of pelargonidin, and 17.42 mg/g peonidin, and showed greater antioxidant activity than the other extracts. Therefore, the optimal extracting conditions for preparing PCCE were a temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ and an extraction time of 24 h.

  • A rf triode magnetron sputtering system is designed and installed its construction in vacuum chamber. In order to calibrate the rf triode magnetron sputtering for thin films deposition processes, the effects of different glow discharge conditions were investigated in terms of the deposition rate measurements. The basic parameters for calibrating experiment in this sputtering system are rf power input, gas pressure, plasma current, and target-to-substrate distance. Because a knowledge of the deposition rate is necessary to control film thickness and to evaluate optimal conditions which are an important consideration in preparing better thin films, the deposition rates of copper as a testing material under the various sputtering conditions are investigated. Furthermore, a triode sputtering system designed in our team is simulated by the SIMION program. As a result, it is sure that the simulation of electron trajectories in the sputtering system is confined directly above the target surface by the force of $E{\times}B$ field. Finally, some teats with the above 4 different sputtering conditions demonstrate that the deposition rate of rf triode magnetron sputtering is relatively higher than that of the conventional sputtering system. This means that the higher deposition rate is probably caused by a high ion density in the triode and magnetron system. The erosion area of target surface bombarded by Ar ion is sputtered widely on the whole target except on both magnet sides. Therefore, the designed rf triode magnetron sputtering is a powerful deposition system.

  • To determine optimal conditions for preparing protein isolate film from fish meal, the water vapor permeability (WVP), tensile properties and solubility of fish meal proteinisolate (FMPI) film were measured. FMPI was extracted from fish meal under conditions of various extraction times at $60^{\circ}C$. Extracting time little affected to WVP of FMPI film. The film added with glycerol as plasticizer showed higher WVP than sorbitol added. As extraction time increased up to 1 hr, tensile strength and elongation were increased. While in more extracting time than 1 hr, increasing extracting time made tensile strength and elongation showed negative correlations. The correlation of soluble protein amount and tensile strength showed higher value ($r^{2}=0.83$) than that of elongation ($r^{2}=0.62$).

  • In this work, to identify effective parameter for performance of piezoelectric jetting dispenser, experimental investigation is carried out based on design of experiment. After preparing jetting dispenser using two stack-type piezoelectric actuators, basic working principle of the jetting dispenser is described. Eight operating conditions are chose as main factors and it is assumed that each factor has two levels. To reduce number of experiments for performance evaluation, the experimental sets are designed based on factional factorial design method. Experimental setup is established and the weight of single dot is measured by using precision scale. The main and interaction effects of factors are analyzed using commercial statistical program and optimal operating condition for small amount and small variation of weight of dispensed single dot are determined.

  • In this paper, a CAD/CAM system for 5-axis machining of model propeller is introduced. This system has been developed under the environment of personal computer and Windows NT. In order to enhance the productivity, existing text-based design S/W was integrated into this graphic-based system. Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline method is used to represent the sculptured surface of propeller blades and hub using point data, and surface blending between blade and hub is realized in this system. For 5-axis machining of sculptured surface, tool/work collision and interference are checked and inverse kinematic analysis is performed to make NC data. In addition, tool and workpiece are animated on the PC monitor by preparing NC verification module. Finally, optimal cutting conditions are determined empirically and those cutting conditions are integrated into this S/W so that the whole process from design to machining can be done automatically.

  • A coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion was prepared using high pressure homogenization with different valve type conditions (A, B, and C) and cycle numbers (1, 2, and 3). The particle size, transmittance, zeta potential, and coenzyme Q10 content of the prepared coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion were measured. The stability of the prepared coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion was evaluated on heating ($95^{\circ}C$), freezing ($-20^{\circ}C$), and different pH (2-10) conditions. Also, the prepared coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion was stored at different temperatures of 4, 25, and $40^{\circ}C$ for 12 weeks to evaluate its storage stability. In this study, the optimal conditions of high pressure homogenization for the preparation of a coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion were identified to be 150 MPa, C valve, and a cycle number of 3. The results showed that the prepared coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion had an average particle size of 40 nm, generated no deposits or floating matter when stored at either 4 or $25^{\circ}C$ for 12 weeks, and displayed excellent dispersibility and transparency when processed at different pHs (4-10) or heating ($95^{\circ}C$) and, freezing ($-20^{\circ}C$) conditions. Our results indicated that a coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion prepared by high pressure homogenization can be used for preparing beverages in the food industry.

  • A kraft black liquor obtained from pulping of pine (Pinus densiflora Sieb et Zucc) was used for producing three kinds of adhesive such as black liquor-phenol formaldehyde resin, methyloeated kraft lignin-phenol formaldehyde resin, and lignin cake-phenol resin. In case of producing black liquor-phenol formaldehyde resin, about 60 percent of the phenolic resin could be replaced by black liquor. Also the optimal press condition appeared to be $160^{\circ}C$ for 7 min. (l5.77Kg/$cm^2$ in dry test, 8.54Kg/$cm^2$ in 4 hr. boil test). Phenol could be substituted up to 80-90 percent by methylolated kraft lignin. The suitable conditions of factors affecting bond quality were pH to 2.6, methanol as solvent and 0.2ml formaldehyde per 1g of the adhesives, respectively. The optimal press condition was $150^{\circ}C$ for 4 min. (188.54Kg/$cm^2$ in dry test, 10.08Kg/$cm^2$ in 4 hr. boil test). In preparing lignin cake-phenol resin, a suitable mixing ratio of phenol to powered kraft lignin was one to one by weight. The optimal press condition was $150^{\circ}C$ for 4 min.(18.46Kg/$cm^2$ in dry test, 12.31Kg/$cm^2$ in 4 hr. hoil test).
