  • This paper deals with a performance evaluation model of transporters in refrigerate warehouse. This study focussed on determining refrigerate warehouse design to minimize the expected travel time to improve the transporter performance and to minimize the operating costs. This study proposes the important detail aspects of refrigerate warehouse design, operational parameters and congestions. For solving this problem, we have shown a mathematical model to compute the initial value of the system performance and also a simulation model using AutoMod. A systematic approach proposed in this study for an optimal planning of order-picking warehouse is known as an effective method for the planning of order-picking warehouse and a performance evaluation problem of refrigerate warehouse operation.

A Cruise Ship Itinerary Planning Model for Passenger Satisfaction

  • This study developed an optimization model, defined as the IPS (Itinerary for Passenger Satisfaction), for a cruise ship to identify an itinerary that maximizes passenger satisfaction. A 0-1 integer programming model was developed to provide an optimal sequence of ports of call, assigning a destination to each day of the cruise. The concepts of the destination access network and the neighborhood of a destination were designed and manipulated to organize the complex network of destinations so that each next destination is selected within a practical overnight sail. The developed model can also be viewed as a reduced variant of the traveling salesperson problem with less constraints. A set of example tests shows that practical scenarios of the IPS with moderate cruise duration can be easily solved with light computation loads. Considering cruise ship passengers usually make their decisions not relying on only one destination but on an itinerary in its entirety, the purpose of this study was to identify itinerary alternatives to attract potential cruise passengers for attaining maximum occupancy level.

발견적 알고리즘에 의한 컨테이너 터미널의 선석배정에 관한 연구 (A Heuristic Algorithm of Berth Assignment Planning in a Container Terminal)

  • Generally, berth assignment problem has conflicting factors according to the interested parties. In the view of shipping company, it is desirable that berth assignment is made according to the order of arrival. But in the view of port operator, it is better to be assigned regardless the order of arrival to promote the efficiency of berth operation. Thus, it is necessary to establish berth assignment planning which reflects both of interests in a practical situation. This paper aims to develop a reasonable berth assignment algorithm in a container terminal by considering the prescribed factors, and suggests three types of models minimizing the objective functions such as total port staying time, total mooring time and total maximum mooring time by using MPS concept. These models are formulated by 0-1 integer programming and min-max type function, but as the number of variables increases, an optimal solution cannot be achieved easily within a desired computational time. Thus, to tackle this problem this paper proposes a heuristic algorithm, and also the heuristic algorithm proposed in this paper is verified through the several examples.

광양항 컨테이너 터미널 선석 재배치에 따른 기대효과 분석 (Estimating Benefits of Gwangyang Port Container Terminals' Berth Relocation)

  • Container terminals at Gwangyang Port are operated by three container operators: A, B and C. Ultimately, there is consensus that a single operator should operate all terminals so that economies of scale can be achieved even in the operation of the container terminal. Integration between operators has a positive effect on both operators and shipping companies. From the operator's point of view, overlapping fixed costs between operators can be unified, reducing overall costs and utilizing spare facilities. On the other hand, from the viewpoint of the shipping company, it is possible to ensure stable use of the port facilities and always allow berthing, reduce days on demurrage and ship waiting, and provide one-stop service for work. However, existing cases of operators' integration or relocation of terminals remained to estimate the expected effects of alternatives, emphasizing only the financial point of view. The port terminal is a large system, and it is important to consider that it is an aggregate of major logistics facilities and equipment. Moreover, if the estimation can be made by quantifying the expected effect, the justification of the terminals' relocation can be further emphasized. Therefore, it is very important to estimate the expected effect from the viewpoint of systemic operation. Moreover, the need for operators' integration can be further emphasized if it can be estimated through quantification of expected effects. Currently, three alternatives are considered as alternatives to the terminals' relocation, and in this study, the optimal plan was derived for the 3 alternatives by the linear planning model of the minimum shuttle transportation cost in the terminal. The optimal plan is alternative 2, which shows the most advantageous integration effect in terms of expected effects. Alternative 2 integrates the B terminal into the C terminal, and the A terminal operates independently as it is.

Real-time Optimal Operation Planning of Isolated Microgrid Considering SOC balance of ESS

  • The operating system for an isolated microgrid, which is completely disconnected from the central power system, aims at preventing blackouts and minimizing power generation costs of diesel generators through efficient operation of the energy storage system (ESS) that stores energy produced by renewable energy generators and diesel generators. In this paper, we predict the amount of renewable energy generation using the weather forecast and build an optimal diesel power generation plan using a genetic algorithm. In order to avoid inefficiency due to inaccurate prediction of renewable energy generation, our search algorithm imposes penalty on candidate diesel power generation plans that fail to maintain the SOC (state of charge) of ESS at an appropriate level. Simulation experiments show that our optimization method for maintaining an appropriate SOC balance can prevent the blackout better when compared with the previous method.

유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 최적의 가공 조건 결정 (Determination of Optimal Machining Parameters Using Genetic Algorithm)

  • The determination of the optimal machining parameters in metal cutting, such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, is an important aspect in an economic manufacturing process. The main objective in general is either to minimize the production cost or to maximize the production rate. Also there are constraints on all the machining operations which put restrictions on the choice of the machining parameters. In this paper as an objective function the production cost is considered with two constraints, surface finish and cutting power. Genetic Algorithm is applied to determine the optimum machining parameters, and the effectiveness of the applied algorithm is demonstrated by means of an example, turning operation.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the program for efficient operation of a multi-functional surface mounting device(SMD) which mount various components on a printed circuit board(PCB). These components are provided by diverse types of feeders such as cassette, stick and tray feeders. The SMD has one or two heads. In the SMD, the positions of PCB and feeders and fixed, and the head moves to pick up a component from a feeder and to mount it on the PCB. The number of lanes occupied by each feeder and the nozzle used for each component can be different. We develop an off-line program to minimize the cycle-time of the SMD by studying the optimal assignment of feeders and the optimal mounting sequence of components. Graphical User Interface(GUI) is also developed. Additionally, we consider the line balancing problem which appears when two SMDs are used sequentially.

  • This paper addresses a particle swarm optimization-based approach for solving a generating unit maintenance scheduling problem(GMS) with some constraints. We focus on the power system reliability such as reserve ratio better than cost function as the objective function of GMS problem. It is shown that particle swarm optimization-based method is effective in obtaining feasible schedules such as GMS problem related to power system planning and operation. In this paper, we find the optimal solution of the GMS problem within a specific time horizon using particle swarm optimization algorithm. Simple case study with 16-generators system is applicable to the GMS problem. From the result, we can conclude that PSO is enough to look for the optimal solution properly in the generating unit maintenance scheduling problem.

  • An integrated sewer management system was developed for the analysis of sewer flow and for optimal operation of sewer works using ArcView and SWMM. SWMM and ArcView were dynamically linked together using Avenue in order to construct user-friendly management system. The developed system was applied to a residential area in Choonchun city to verify its utilities. All the relevant field data were analyzed on the basis of developed system, and the modeling of sewer flow was implemented using MET, RUNOFF, TRANSPORT in SWMM. As this system can provide comprehensive prediction of flow and pollution profiles, it could serve as a tool not only for optimal management, but also for decision support system to examine the efficiency of planning and implementation of sewer projects.

하수도 시설 관리 시스템의 개발 및 적용 (Development and Application of Sewer Facility Management System)

This system is now in the process of connection to the management system of watershed and surface environment in order to develope an integrated environmental management system. Futhermore, this system will be a critical part of overall control system of sewer works including sewer line and wastewater treatment plant. As this system can provide comprehensive prediction of flow and pollution profiles, it could serve as a tool not only for optimal management, but also for decision support system to examine the efficiency of planning and implementation of sewer projects.
