  • The emerging technology of self compacting concrete, fiber reinforcement together reduces vibration and substitute conventional reinforcement which help in improving the economic efficiency of the construction. The objective of this work is to find the regression model to determine the response surface of mix proportioning Steel Fiber Reinforced Self Compacting Concrete (SFSCC) using statistical investigation. A total of 30 mixtures were designed and analyzed based on Design of Experiment (DOE). The fresh properties of SCC and mechanical properties of concrete were studied using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The results were analyzed by limited proportion of fly ash, fiber, volume combination ratio of two steel fibers with aspect ratio of 50/35: 60/30 and super plasticizer (SP) dosage. The center composite designs (CCD) have selected to produce the response in quadratic equation. The model responses included in the primary stage were flowing ability, filling ability, passing ability and segregation index whereas in harden stage of concrete, compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength at 28 days were tested. In this paper, the regression model and the response surface plots have been discussed, and optimal results were found for all the responses.

  • In this study two issues are considered, one is to develop a pneumatic servomechanism using a direct-connected circuit between inlet and outlet, the other is to design two kinds of advanced controllers such as fuzzy and PID controllers for a fingering system. Besides, the application of the advanced controllers to the newly proposed servomechanism is presented. The procedure of this study is composed of following 6 steps : [Step 1] Structuring of a control system; [Step 2] Development of a pneumatic circuit for the servomechanism ; [Step 3] Characteristic analysis of the valve and cylinder systems ; [Step 4] Determination of optimal parameters of the PID controller ; [Step 5] Design of a fuzzy controller and parameter tuning; and, [Step 6] Experimental analysis of fuzzy and PID controllers. Experimental results show that the newly proposed pneumatic servomechanism has good performance and, not only the performance of the fuzzy controller is better than that of the PID controller but also the fuzzy controller fits well to the control of the pneumatic servomechanism.

  • A program to design a small capacity wind turbine blade is proposed in this study. The program is based on a matlab GUI environment and designed to perform blade design based on the blade element momentum theory. The program is different from other simulation tools available in a point that it can analyze the side-furling power regulation mechanism and also has an algorithm to find out optimal torque schedule above the rated wind speed region. The side-furling power regulation is used for small-capacity horizontal axis wind turbines because they cannot use active pitch control due to high cost which is commonly used for large-capacity wind turbine. Also, the torque schedule above the rated wind speed region should be different from that of the large capacity wind turbines because active pitching is not used. The program developed in this study was validated with the results with FAST which is the only program that can analyze the performance of side-furled wind turbines. For the validation a commercial 10 kW wind turbine data which is available in the literature was used. From the validation, it was found that the performance prediction from the proposed simple program is close to those from FAST. It was also found that the optimal torque scheduling from the proposed program was found to increase the turbine power substantially. Further experimental validation will be performed as a future work.

  • In this paper, we present an economical and practical standard to install a bypass diode in a thin-film PV module. This method helps to reduce heat generation and to prevent module degradation due to excess current from reverse bias. The experimental results confirm that for different numbers of solar cells, there is a relation between the excess reverse current and the degradation of solar cells in a-Si:H modules. The optimal number of solar cells that can be connected per bypass diode could be obtained through an analysis of the results to effectively suppress the degradation and to reduce the heat generated by the module. This technique could be expanded for use in high power crystalline Si PV modules.

  • This paper introduces a new method to solve Similarity Recognition for Cloth Products, which is based on Fuzzy logic and Particle swarm optimization algorithm. For convenience, it is called the SRCPFP method hereafter. In this paper, the SRCPFP method combines Fuzzy Logic (FL) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to solve similarity recognition for cloth products. First, it establishes three features, length, thickness, and temperature resistance, respectively, for each cloth product. Subsequently, these three features are engaged to construct a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) which can find out the similarity between a query cloth and each sampling cloth in the cloth database D. At the same time, the FIS integrated with the PSO algorithm can effectively search for near optimal parameters of membership functions in eight fuzzy rules of the FIS for the above similarities. Finally, experimental results represent that the SRCPFP method can realize a satisfying recognition performance and outperform other well-known methods for similarity recognition under considerations here.

  • This paper is to derive information about the optimal shape of the pack has a minimum temperature range of a Li-ion battery equipped with a module. We selected the shape of the pack in order to reduce the temperature deviation between the batteries as a variable. And we derived the experimental points with a minimum of DOE by D-optimal. We analyzed the temperature and the flow within the battery pack by using a numerical analysis verified in previous studies. We derive the equation for the temperature variation in the objective function using the RSM and performed optimization. As a result, it was confirmed that with the variation in the $1.706e-4^{\circ}C$ when to apply an optimized shape.

  • Industrial motors are subject to incipient faults which, if undetected, can lead to motor failure. The necessity of incipient fault detection can be justified by safety and economical reasons. The technology of artificial neural networks has been successfully used to solve the motor incipient fault detection problem. This paper develops inexpensive, reliable, and noninvasive NN based incipient fault detection scheme for small and medium sized induction motors. Detailed design procedure for achieving the optimal NN model and Principal Component Analysis for dimensionality reduction is proposed. Overall thirteen statistical parameters are used as feature space to achieve the desired classification. GFFD NN model is designed and verified for optimal performance in fault identification on experimental data set of custom designed 2 HP, three phase 50 Hz induction motor.

  • We have designed and investigated a new congestion control scheme, called optimal and fully explicit (OFEX) controller. Different from existing relatively explicit controllers, this new scheme can provide not only optimal bandwidth allocation but also a fully explicit congestion signal to sources. It uses the congestion signal from the most congested link instead of the cumulative signal from the flow path. In this way, it overcomes the drawback of relatively explicit controllers exhibiting bias toward multi-bottlenecked users and significantly improves their convergence speed and source throughput performance. Furthermore, our OFEX-controller design considers a dynamic model by proposing a remedial measure against the unpredictable bandwidth changes in contention-based multi-access networks. Compared with former works/controllers, this remedy also effectively reduces the instantaneous queue size in a router and thus significantly improves queuing delay and packet loss performance. We have evaluated the effectiveness of the OFEX controller in OPNET. The experimental comparison with the existing relatively explicit controllers verifies the superiority of our new scheme.

  • Grinding process is different from other machining processes such as turning, milling and drilling because the cutting edges in a grinding wheel doesn't have uniformity and acts differently on the workpiece at each grinding. This study focus on predicting the geometric error produced during surface grinding and selecting an optimal grinding condition to reduce the geometric error. To achieve the aim, the Taguchi design of experiments was applied and the S/N ratios of each grinding was used for evaluating the results. The predicted quantities by the S/N ratios were compared with the experimental results.

  • In this paper, we used one-dimensional process simulator, SUPREM-II, and two-dimensional device simulator, MINIMOS 4.0 to extract optimal process parameter that can minimize degradation of device characteristics caused by process parameter variation in the case of short channel nMOSFET and pMOSFET device. From this simulation, we have derieved the relationship between process parameter and device characteristics. Here we have presented a method to extract process parameters from design trend curve(DTC) obtained by process and device simulations. We parameters to verify the validity of the DTC method. The experimental result of 0.8 $\mu\textrm{m}$ channel length devices that have been fabricated with optimal that reduces short channel effects, that is, good drain current-voltage characteristics, low body effects and threshold voltage of 1.0 V, high punchthrough and breakdown voltage of 12 V, low subthreshold swing(S.S) values of 105 mV/decade.
