  • Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicles (FCHVs) have already become the subject of major interest among automotive industry as well as power management strategies of FCHVs, as the fuel economy of FCHVs depends on them. There are several types of power management strategies of FCHVs that have been developed to improve the fuel economy of FCHVs. Among them, optimal control theory is applied to this study. A problem is defined and its objective is to minimize the energy consumption of an FCHV and to find the optimal trajectories of powertrain parameters during driving. Necessary conditions for the optimal control are introduced and the simulation results of constant costate are compared to that of variable costate in order to prove that the variable costate can be replaced with the constant costate.

  • This paper deals with the dynamic simulation method for analysis of driving characteristics of aircraft and towing vehicles (TUG) on carrier vessel in wave motions. For prompt deployment in a short period of time, optimization of the movement of carrier aircraft becomes a major issue. In this regards, strategy studies using real-time simulation technology and optimal decision-making technologies are being conducted. In the present work, the dynamic characteristics of carrier aircraft and TUG connected by towbar or towbarless mechanism were investigated by means of multi-body dynamics model. Meanwhile, for real-time simulation, Dugoff's model of tire loads calculation was adopted. Through comparative analysis it was confirmed that the similarity of results between the multi-body contact model and the tire load calculation model can be achieved by coefficients tuning.

  • This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of PM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the PMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The optimal field-weakening control algorithm is the use of phase current and d-axis current feedback to reduce of error between the d-axis current command and real current and to improve the torque characteristics. The improved torque characteristics of speed control strategy with optimal field weakening control algorithm is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation and experimental results. • This paper describes a fault-tolerant driving control strategy for an independent steer-by-wire system in sixwheel-drive/six-wheel-steering vehicles. An algorithm has been designed to realize vehicle maneuverability that is as close as possible to that of non-faulty vehicles by inducing high slip ratio of the wheel through a faulty steer-by-wire system in order to reduce the lateral tire force, which is resistant to the yaw motion. Considering the transition of the longitudinal tire force of a wheel with a faulty steer-by-wire component, the longitudinal tire forces are optimally distributed to the other wheels. Fault-tolerant driving performance has been investigated via computer simulations. Simulation studies show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the maneuverability of a vehicle with a faulty steer-by-wire system as compared to the optimal traction distribution method.

  • The modular multilevel cascade converter (MMCC) is a new family of multilevel power converters with modular realization and a cascaded pattern for submodules. The MMCC family can be classified by basic configurations and submodule types. One member of this family, the Hexverter, is configured as Double-Delta Full-Bridge (DDFB). It is a novel multilevel AC/AC converter with direct power conversion and comparatively fewer required components. It is appropriate for connecting two three-phase systems with different frequencies and driving an AC motor directly from a utility grid. This paper presents the dq model of a Hexverter with both of its AC systems by state-space representation, which then simplifies the continuous time-varying model into a periodic discrete time-invariant one. Then a generalized multivariable optimal control strategy for regulating the Hexverter's independent currents is developed. The resulting control structure can be adapted to other MMCCs and is flexible enough to include other control criterion while guaranteeing the original controller performance. The modeling method and control design are verified by simulation results.

  • Mobility of an indoor wheeled robot is affected by adhesion force that is related to various floor conditions. When the adhesion force between driving wheels and the floor decreases suddenly, the robot has a slip state. In order to overcome this slip problem, optimal slip velocity must be decided for stable movement of wheeled robot. First of all, this paper shows that conventional PI control can not be applied to a wheeled robot of the light weigh. Secondly, reposed fuzzy logic applied by the Takagi-Sugeno model for the configuration of fuzzy sets. For the design of Takaki-Sugeno model and fuzzy rule, proposed algorithm uses FCM(Fuzzy c-mean clustering method) algorithm. In additionally, this algorithm controls recovered driving torque for the restrain the re-slip. The proposed fuzzy logic controller(FLC) is pretty useful with prevention of the slip phenomena through that compare fuzzy with PI control for the controller performance in the re-adhesion control strategy. These procedures are implemented using a Pioneer 2-DXE wheeled robot parameter.

  • This paper describes an integrated chassis control for a maneuverability, a lateral stability and a rollover prevention of a vehicle by the using of the ESC and AFS. The integrated chassis control system consists of a supervisor, control algorithms and a coordinator. From the measured and estimation signals, the supervisor determines the vehicle driving situation about the lateral stability and rollover prevention. The control algorithms determine a desired yaw moment for lateral stability and a desired longitudinal force for the rollover prevention. In order to apply the control inputs, the coordinator determines a brake and active front steering inputs optimally based on the current status of the subject vehicle. To improve the reliability and to reduce the operating load of the proposed control algorithms, a multi-core ECU platform is used in this system. For the evaluation of this system, a closed loop simulations with driver-vehicle-controller system were conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed control strategy.

  • This paper proposes a new haptic cue vehicle accelerator pedal device using magnetorheological(MR) brake. As a first step, an MR fluid-based haptic cue device is devised to be capable of rotary motion of accelerator pedal. Under consideration of spatial limitation, design parameters are optimally determined to maximize control torque using finite element method. The proposed haptic cue device is then manufactured and integrated with accelerator pedal. Its field-dependant torque is experimentally evaluated. Vehicle system emulating gear shifting and engine speed is constructed in virtual environment and communicated with the haptic cue device. Haptic cue algorithm using the feed-forward control algorithm is formulated to achieve optimal gear shifting in driving. Control performances are experimentally evaluated via feed-forward control strategy and presented in time domain.

  • In inverter system for driving induction motor, the output harmonics are hamrful in induction motor drive because it leads to ripple torque and induction interference. For electrical drives using PWM(Pulsewidth Modulation) inverters and ac motors, the methods for efficiency optimal control have been developed. In this paper, two different PWM methods for inverter and voltage control technique are described. In order to reduce or minimize losses, various forms of PWM strategy such as, PM (Positive Modulation) and NM (Negative Modulation) are discussed. The results show the feasibility of obtaining practically sinusoidal output waveforms which are highly desirable in most inverter application.
